There are many people struggling with issues that need resolution in their life. You may hear about some of these difficulties when friends, neighbors or strangers, for instance, complain about a health problem, vent anger, express irritation, or fear for their future.
In fact, I hear from many of these individuals every day…and happily so, because when they call for help and tell me their pain, I know that what they’re really asking for is
To be reminded that they are a perfect and loved child of God.
O so short and sweet!!
Such a powerful, simple thought. Yesterday as well. Help me understand how this can help me in my effforts to give up drinking alcohol. I feel that it is keeping me from being the best I can be.
I was reading the newest Sentinel and Allison Phinney has a wonderful article talking about how CS today is the same today as yesterday….but we have to be more alert to the seemingly powerful and endless attempts to rob us of our joy and freedom. I’ve thought of alcohol in this way at times. It’s pushed on us so heavily…to have a good time, to celebrate every event (big or little) …..in other words, happiness comes in a bottle. I see it at another attempt to rob us of our joy and freedom.
I’ve read many testimonies where people have been healed of using alcohol and tobacco (other drugs as well) but just can’t seem to make it mine.
I don’t know….just wanted to ask this…someone else might be struggling as well.
thank you!!
One way to conquer attraction to alcohol is to understand that there is no pleaseure in drinking.
When a person understands that there is absolutely no good thing to come from drinking, either socially, physically, emotionally, mentally or spiritually, there is no more attraction to it.
The best in life comes from God in a spiritual form. It doesn’t come from alcohol or effects from it.
The best friends, best relationships, best state of mind, enduring joy, etc., all grow out of love, feeling close to God. They do not come from fermented grapes.
Hope that helps…
A fascinating idea… fermenting grapes.:-)
When I was brand new to Christian Science, I was a social drinker. One summer when my mom came to visit me in the vineyards region of upstate NY, we did the usual wine tastings. She is not a Christian Scientist. She saw ( and heard!)that I was so excited by this new religion, and commented,” If you love Christian Science so much, Mary, why drink? You don’t have to.”
And that was that. I haven’t had a drink since or a desire for a drink since. That was 26 years ago.
I interact with Spaniards during the summer in Spain as a tutor and Italians while in the military. No hassles whatsoever.
You can do it!
Thank you both for your thoughts and powerful ideas. I’m coming back to CS after a long, LONG absense. I feel myself growing and truly loving CS all over again and the idea that I’m drinking just doesn’t sit right with me….and with what I’m learning.
Again, thank you for the positive ideas.
A structured program such as AA may be helpful. Many believe it conflicts with Christian Science. I do not.
