Plenty to do that is meaningful

April 22, 2024 | 24 comments

Are you looking for something to do that has meaning?  If so, help your neighbor.  The world is filled with people suffering from all types of false beliefs and fears that cry out for healing.

Mary Baker Eddy writes, “Good thoughts are an impervious armor; clad therewith you are completely shielded from the attacks of error of every sort. And not only yourselves are safe, but all whom your thoughts rest upon are thereby benefited” (Miscellany, p. 210).

When you rest thoughts of truth and love on your neighbor, you bless them.  You help them feel God’s protecting presence.  You help them find comfort.  You help them experience health and safety.

There are no limits on how far a right thought can travel around the globe and how effective it can be in blessing a person in need.

All is Mind.  There is no distance or separation in Mind.

A right idea is as right in the heart of Gaza as it is on the battlefield of Ukraine as it is where you sit this moment.

We don’t have to get on an airplane or drive for hundreds of miles to help people in need.  If that’s our calling, that’s fine.  Feet are needed on the ground for practical needs.  But the greater opportunity is in moral and spiritual transformation of thought that elevates humanity’s understanding of God and helps people feel God’s saving Love.  This happens through conscientious dedicated prayer.  And we can do that from anywhere.  From right where you sit or stand this moment!

If you’re looking for something meaningful to do, there is plenty to do.  Are you willing to help?  That’s the bigger question.

  1. ‘A right idea is as right in the heart of Gaza’ and where the Israeli hostages are being held. God bless and save them.

    1. , “If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them. 7 Come, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other.”
      Genesis 11

  2. I find it amazing and most comforting the more I explore and am exposed to the writings of Mrs Eddy.
( Im still a bit old school including the Mrs…)
Im so grateful to you, Evan , this blog and all the comments over the years. They all contribute to my realisation that Christian Science , with all its teachings is truly the complete and honest way to live out our lives seeking more spiritual understanding of the fact that God is All. That Love and Truth is ours Now. B.x

  3. Thanks for this site as it keeps me grounded in Truth and keeps my thoughts where it should be on what is the practical, loving, and understanding the real world is. Seeing what is real right where the scenes are displaying every type of error before my eyes.
What a joy and a true place to be this morning.

  4. “The ‘still, small voice’ of scientific thought reaches over continent and ocean to the globe’s remotest bound. The inaudible voice of Truth is, to the human mind, ‘as when a lion roareth.’ It is heard in the desert and in dark places of fear.” (p.559). This passage has helped me on many occasions to know that God’s thoughts can reach me wherever I am in the world.
(Barbara I also still prefer to say Mrs Eddy. To me it sounds disrespectful to call her Eddy, but that’s just my preference). Linda X

    1. I’m with you Linda, and Barbara! I simply can’t read an article that doesn’t include the Mrs.
Just Eddy feels horribly disrespectful, after all she did for the world!

  5. I was not going to comment this morning, because woke with a feeling of the
opposite of the topic – an oppressive feeling of being Overwhelmed with so much
to do ~ I don’t know where to start. Feeling the “poor me’s”, with my next door
neighbors all having partners, children and grandchildren to help out with their
chores, this was actually the last thing I wanted to read this morning. But …
these uplifting thoughts of helping others And oneself Spiritually are very helpful
and so needed. The photo of calmness, comfort and ease in pensive thought is
so consoling and gives such a feeling of contentment and peace. I thank you, Evan,
and all for the comments for which I agree in their Truth and helpful spiritual energy
to inspire to carry on. I Really needed this inspiration this morning!

    1. Good morning Angel. We can pray to know that all you need to do is being done by God. I can relate to how you feel. When I try to be the personal doer of things it can lead to overwhelm and feeling alone to carry out what needs to be done. I read in a CS article to think this way: Today is God’s day, there is only One Mind, God, He is the doer and we are the witnesses to His good doing. It said in the article that we should remember this early in the day before the mesmerism of mortal thought kicks in.

Love to everyone here and support as we pray for willingness to be helpers using our beloved spiritual tools that CS teaches us.

      1. Thank you so much, dear Rose, for these comforting and sweet words
of kindness. Having had my thoughts in a better place, after the
temptation of erroneous suggestions, when I awoke, of maybe not being
able to accomplish what I wished to, alone – it turned out to be a very
productive day and with God’s strength – was able to do a heavy-lifting
and very challenging job I’ve been sort of dreading to do, but today got
it done. In trying to keep neighborly thoughts and planning to mow, also,
(-keeping up with the Joneses – he has mowed theirs twice already this
season and I have not yet) … spiritual lovingkindness took charge over
actual mowing today, but it is alright. There is always tomorrow. Keeping
thought spirit ward is more important and we get done humanly what we
can, with Love’s help without needing to fret over the “matter” things.

  6. Thanks, Evan, for acknowledging the suffering in Gaza.

I visualise, almost daily for the last 6 months, the following:

Millions of defeseless Gazans, terrorised, daily, by bombs raining on them by a powerful military, which is supported by the most powerful, and, possibly, the most humane country in history!

If only the world follows the admonition of Mary Baker Eddy: “Revenge is inadmissible.” – Science and Health, page 22.

    1. Thank you Abbas.

It’s as if WW2 never ended.

There are wonderful people on both sides. This was emphasized a few years ago by a group of young musicians from both Gaza and Israel. They gave concerts to show that harmony exists, and to inspire the adults to find peace in their hearts, to Love their neighbors.

The way of anger and violence and fear shows a great need for peace and kindness and love.

Recently there was link posted here from the Sentinel 7/27/1973 “Don’t Be Discouraged” that I’ve found very helpful. “… tomorrow’s experience will be the outcome of today’s good thinking… thus it is our present moment that needs our watchful, loving attention.”

Let’s envision an end to war, -—”Let there be peace on Earth, and let it begin with US.”

  7. We help ourselves best when we come to the aid of other’s true needs. Healing often extends to those we wouldn’t suspect as God knows all needs and our prayer often unfolding those as well.

  8. Yes, Evan, I am willing to help, and I believe that every reader of this blog is also willing to help and to pray to lift humanity’s sufferings. I pray “Thy Kingdom come, – Let the reign of divine Truth, Life, and Love be established in the world, and rule out of it all sin. May Thy word enrich the affections of all mankind and govern them. May Thy blessed perfect Kingdom be revealed to all. (Paraphrasing the daily prayer by Mary Baker Eddy)

To understand, through the teachings of Christian Science, the illusive nature of evil, and the supremacy of God’s all encompassing Love,—these are powerful truths that we are privileged to affirm in our prayers for world peace.

  9. Thank you very much Evan! My prayer for the world is several times a day the Daily Prayer by Mrs. Eddy. At the end I pray: .. and Thy (God’s) word enriches the love of all mankind, and governs them.
Not as a wish, as we read in the Manual of TMC, rather as a loving fact. God does enrich us all with divine healing Love and governs His complete creation. I stick with this Truth.
Am grateful for all the healing comments and J’s articles which are always very helpful and inspiring.

  10. Thank you all for your lovely comments! The article by Jenny Sawyer, and audio with Ann Kneeland, were very helpful too. Always love SpiritView and your contributions.

  11. With today being Earth Day, but then again, Every day, (like with Christmas) –
is really Earth day, which brings us all closer as neighbors. We are all God’s
creations, all special in God’s care, as well as all that inhabits our lovely home
in this beautiful universe. Prayers for all man kind, woman kind, child kind,
animal kind and plant kind = all expressions of One Mind/Spirit/Soul/Love.

    1. Yes, Carol, we pray for our Earth and we are endless thankful for the beautiful earth with all of God’s wonderful creation including man, God’s most glorious reflection! Thank you for your lovely comment.♡
