Praying for pets

July 13, 2022 | 32 comments

“Does prayer work for pets?” I’m often asked. “It sure does,” I reply. “God’s pets are God’s perfect ideas, and everything that is true about God’s perfect idea, is true about God’s pets.”

If praying for a pet, it’s helpful to remember that your pet is God’s pet, one of God’s perfect ideas in the Mind of God where all is safe and sound.

Mary Baker Eddy, the discoverer of Christian Science, wrote, “All is Mind and Mind’s idea” (Science and Health, p. 492). Everything that exists as a spiritual reality is an idea in the Mind of God. Pets included!

If dealing with a sick pet, the opportunity is to see the truth about God’s pets. To see the truth about God’s perfect idea that is safe and sound in the Mind of God.

God’s pets are not vulnerable physical bodies subject to disease and infection.

God’s pets are spiritual creatures in the Mind of God that possess eternal spiritual health and spiritual immunity that protects them from suffering.

God’s ideas are loved, cared for, watched over, and comforted by Truth and Love.

God’s creatures know their Maker and readily respond to God’s love and care.

God’s ideas stay healthy, strong, and well.

If you’re praying for your pet, pray to see what God sees and knows.

Pets readily respond to prayer.

Let prayer be your first response when caring for your pet, and they will be immensely benefited.

  1. Thanks so much for this! For a long time I was not sure how to approach pets and animals through prayer. I will read this over and over.

  2. Yes ! So very grateful for the times I’ve requested treatment for my pets . They are the easiest creatures to pray for , they don’t argue with you when you tell them they are Gods perfect idea and healing is usually pretty quick !

  3. Since becoming a student of Christian Science, which is many years ago, I have
always relied on God for healing for my cats, and they have always been healed.
One time just holding one of my cats in my arms, and singing “O Gentle Presence” to her
has done the trick. Other times I have applied citations from Science & Health – like
“All God’s creatures, moving in the harmony of Science are harmless, useful and
indestructible”. I also like to declare that ” All God’s creatures are obedient
to the Mind that made them”. I use this also if there are other cats around which
threaten to stir up the peace, and know that they must all live together in harmony –
thinking about how the Bible tells us that the lion will lie down with the lamb….

One time my cat was continually sneezing. I knew that God did not cause any
diseases for any of his creatures, and so I just kept praying and trusting that
God made her perfect (or purrfect!) and that this claim was not real. I kept praying, and
after a few weeks a spine from our fir tree began to appear from her nose, and I
I was able to pluck it out. I knew that this had never entered into her true spiritual
identity and all was well. I can give many examples of how Christian Science is the
best possible treatment for our lovely pets, for as Evan says, they are God’s pets.
He loves them and cares for them, as he does each one of us. Animals
are very receptive to the law of Truth and Love.

    1. Thank you Evan for these beautiful thoughts and uplifting thoughts & Thank you Maggie for your helpful ideas. We have two lovely dogs and we are struggling with with one of them having “jealousy” issues and being aggressive to the other one. It’s tempting to think of one as innocent and the other one as aggressive when in reality they are both innocent and God protects their innocence.

  4. My heart is filled with gratitude for your site and for all that you do for your viewers. Thank you so much for this up lifting articule.

    1. The dear little dog of friends of my husband has been reported as being ill,
and so I have sent your lovely treatment to my husband to relay to them.
So thank you very much, Evan. I am sure they and the dog will benefit.

  5. So right Evan! I’ve seen healings with my dogs too. In fact I’m sure that our Charlie cuddles up close when he feels the need of some prayerful cuddles.
    Happy day all❣️

  6. Yes, I too can testify to God’s healing laws of Love.
My pets have had healing of a hip disorder prone to a certain breed, distemper in the last stage when the Vet wanted to put the animal down BUT was healed in 3 days, same pet was run over by a passing car and harmed the back hips BUT was healed and went on to have a liter of pups.
Yes, Christian Science prayer does heal everything and everyone in God’s Kingdom.
    Thank you God!

    1. Thank you, J. I’ve turned to this article many, many times and Evan’s loving prayers have supported my spiritual work for my pets on more than one occasion.

So grateful to you, Evan – our pets deserve nothing less!

    2. Thank you J. I’ve read this article before too, but re-reading in re-reading it today the concept of “blotting out error” became clearer to me. So thanks again for sharing it!

    3. Thanks dear J for Evan’s articel!
Dear Evan, thank you for your today’s loving SpiritView reminding us that of course animals can be healef as they are spiritual ideas as well. However it is to be said, that spiritual ideas are already perfect and healthy.

I remember from, I think it is to be found in the book MBE a Christian Healet, a lovely story, where she had a little bird in her Home which seemrd to be dead. she loved her birdy a lot, and through her prayer the bird became alive again. It’s a sweet healing I felt!♡

  7. I’m wondering if there is any difference, from God’s perspective, between pets and the animals that are killed for food?

    1. I’d love to hear some of Evan’s thoughts on that too. There is a lovely Audio Chat with Evan on JSH On-line from several years ago, I think it was titled “Caring For God’s Creatures”. I hope they still have it in their archives.
My understanding is that God is all there is, so of course all of God’s Creatures are under the Law of Love. We can pray for all of them, the pets, and the ones that humans intend to use for food, That they are treated with kindness and respect, even to the end that some day we no longer desire to eat other living creatures.

      1. I believe that the closer we become to Spirit/God, the less mortal beliefs of every kind start to fade away. Jesus once said, “Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink” ~presuming not on the prerogative of his creator, but recognizing God, the Father and Mother of all, as able to feed and clothe man as He doth the lilies” (S&H 530: 7-12). I think the more spiritually minded, we become, the less we believe in what protein, etc. we supposedly need.
Leonardo da Vinci had written, “The time will come when
men such as I will look upon the murder of animals as they
now look on the murder of men”.
Thank you, John, for your question and Paula, for your insight
        into this interesting topic.

  8. Thank you for the perfectly timed reminder.

I have witnessed the healing of animals through Christian Science alone, where nothing else could explain the immediate correction. And I love that they don’t repeat quotes robotically or self-righteously and then say, “Yeah, but ….” When fear and ego from a mortal doesn’t take precedence, the healing of animals is very quick.

I have witnessed the following healed:
    — Injured paws
    — broken back and ribs from being run over repeatedly and any PTSD about cars or being on a leash
    — poisoning
    — fear of guns
    — over 25 years of fear of water in a few minutes replaced by exuberant joy and pride
    — Bites from dogs, possums, ticks with Lyme, fleas, cats
    — surgery to prevent pregnancy
    — excessive barking and vocalizing
    — Houdini -ism
    — wounds from way too tight harness
    — lost hair
    — seizures
    — death
    — starvation
    — aggression
    — possessiveness
    — being lost in an unfamiliar place
    — dognapping/theft
    — heat stroke
    — frostbite
    — grief and depression
    — broken wing
    — abandoning or eating one’s young
    — things stuck in throat or jaw
    — allergies
    — smoke inhalation
    — dislocated ribs and hip
    — tumors
    — and more than I can now remember .

I have also read and heard others describe with before and after photographs with dates what veterinarians would call miracles But the owner of rescued severely victimized horses said was the result of prayer.

It doesn’t matter how long or how severely the dear animal has suffered, Because the eternal truth always has been and always will be true and can instantaneously be the only evidence and experience.

  9. My sister’s dog had a diagnosed case of Parvo. It is a supposedly fatal disease in dogs. The vet said it was the worse he had seen. The dog was healed through prayer and lived to be 17. CS heals!

  10. Praying for pets is so rewarding! I have found them very receptive and my many pets over the years have had some remarkable healings. Similar to Evan’s article mentioned above, my little Yorkie had a tumor on top of his head. I took him on my lap and gave him a CS treatment. Then it came to me to list all the qualities that he expressed as a spiritual idea. I filled a notebook page with qualities and attributes such as : affection, joy, obedience, loyalty, purity, trust, courage, innocence intelligence etc.I saw that this was his true identity not matter. I just loved his perfection as a perfect spiritual idea of God. The next day the tumor was gone. Pets readily accept their perfection. I don’t think he knew anything about a problem on his head. It wasn’t in his consciousness. Thank you all and thank you Evan for this wonderful topic!

  11. One day I was alone in our home with our family’s small dog who was getting quite senior. She collapsed on the floor near me and appeared lifeless. I felt strongly that I should stay very calm and turn from that picture and pray. Walking into another room, praying and singing a hymn, I felt at peace and went back to our pet. She was her normal self and I quietly rejoiced.

  12. YOU BET IT DOES. Being a breeder of German Shepherd dogs for many years it is your responsibility to know when something is wrong.. A couple years ago I was petting my lady friends long haired German Shepherd”Chewbacca” . I noticed 4 or 5 growth nodules under the skin. Definitely not right. My personal life experiences, I know God answers personal healing prayer requests. We prayed. and with the help of a couple practitioners, within a couple days Chewee was completely healed. Your faith is very important.

  13. From grace to glory was our prayer when it appeared that our sweet cat was passing. And the Bible lesson for that week was all about grace. We felt so embraced with the ideas from that lesson. And here we are in Spirit view, praying for pets. Glorious.

  14. I just wanted to way that I think it is very important to not label your pet with age.
People often ask me how old our sweet scat Oreo is and I just say that I don’t know and that I don’t want to put a label on him. It shows because he is always peppy and healthy. Even if they don’t know about Christian science, they always smile and agree with me. they seem to understand.
Oreo had been with us a long time and has had some healings but stays happy and healthy.

We live in the “Boonies” and have lots of animals and birds around us to enjoy.
There have been so many healing experiences we have had with our visiting critters.
They always seem so receptive to healing Love.

  15. I just noticed some typos in my comment. I want to write it again.. I should have read it before I sent it.
