Prevent images of disease from taking form

May 15, 2023 | 18 comments

We should prevent the images of disease from taking form in thought, and we should efface the outlines of disease already formulated in the minds of mortals.

~ Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 174

This is an empowering statement. We are not helpless in the face of disease. We can take metaphysical steps to reverse suggestions of disease, remove them from thought, and keep them out of our experience.

We can prevent disease by keeping consciousness so filled with truth and love that images of disease have no chance to enter thought and catch our attention.

  1. Yes!! Starting each new day with our prayers page 41 and 42 in the Church Manual
Alertness to duty page 42,.. defend ourselves daily against aggressive mental suggestions ..
“ dis -ease “ is not true for us or for anyone
that lives in the Kingdom and the of God
All that’s really going on is ❤️Love and harmony

    1. What a helpful thought to start a Sunday school lesson, the subject leads a child in so many ways towards control over aggressive mental suggestions. Learning the how of living in the Kingdom of God. Learning by example, testing by doing, then seeing the results of protection from aggressive mental suggestions lasts a life time. Thank you McKenzie

      1. Yes, wonderful idea, Chilesands!
When I taught the 3 year young sundayschool pupils, they learned to say by heart the first verse of the 91st Psam.

        1. Thank you for teaching, by heart, the 3 year olds that learned the first verse of the 91st Psalm. Very good for the children, to know what’s good to use when they are in need of the Truth.

I came along with 4 other children in my family group, so I began in the nursery at 3 months, according to Mom, then by 5 years, I thought I had learned “it all” LOL!!! What a joy!!!

  3. From Hymn #40,
“Come ye disconsolate, where’re ye languish,
Here health and peace are found,
    Life, Truth and Love …
Here speaks the Comforter tenderly saying,
Earth has no sorrow that Love cannot cure.”

No matter what form of dis ease Seems to tempt
us to believe in, the Comforter/God/Love is always
present to dispel any suggestion that would try to
    take over our thought.

  4. We learn in CS that when fear is destroyed, healing is complete. Even without a complete understanding of the full spiritual reality we can see fear dissolve.. Mrs. Eddy says (in this week’s Lesson, Soul and Body, section 1), “The understanding, even in a degree,, of the divine All-power destroys fear, and plants the feet in the true path, — the path which leads to the house built without hands “eternal in the heavens.” (S&H 454). That’s comforting, because sometimes we hear error saying we don’t know enough to see a healing, but this statement shows that to be a lie.

I’m grateful for the multitude of resources we have to, “keep consciousness filled with Truth and Love,” as Evan wisely advises us today. Greetings to SV family as we start a blessed new week together.

  5. Mary Baker Eddy gives us this wise advice on pg. 210 of “The First Shuch of Christ,
    Scientists and Miscellany:
“Beloved Christian Scientists, keep your minds so filled with Truth and Love, that sin, disease, and death cannot enter them. It is plain that nothing can be added to the mind already full. There is no door through which evil can enter, and no space for evil to fill in a mind filled with goodness. Good thoughts are an impervious armor; clad therewith you are completely shielded from the attacks of error of every sort. And not only yourselves are safe, but all whom your thoughts rest upon are thereby benefited.”

    1. Thank you Evan for getting us going & keeping our thoughts aligned with Truth with such inspirational Truths shared here! Thank you J for the article you’ve shared too! Really helpful & uplifting!

  6. Thank you Evan and all. Thank you for reminding us that ignorance of forms of diseases keep us safe. We will not think of them because we do not know them. We cannot hold images of things we do not know.. The first stanza of hymn 121 tells us how blessed we are as we hold only good in thought.

How blest are they Whose hearts are pure.
From guil their thoughts are free,
To them shall God reveal Himself,
    They shall His glory see.

  7. Thanks so much Evan for this power message.
We are not helpless or hopeless to PREVENT disease from forming in thought.
AND We CAN scrub out and eradicate any forms of error that seem to already be in our thoughts.
    Our HELP IS RIGHT HERE.
Thanks all for the great messages from you all. Great to work wth
, specially with the blessing of Mrs. Eddy’s teachings in My. pages 210 – 213 “Beloved Christian Scientists keep your minds so full …….” and
WAYS THAT ARE VAIN in My. 210-213 —
It will help us and the world!

    1. Thank you Joy for mentioning My p.210-213. It is helpful but one must read it thoroughly. It’s about how the mesmerismn works and how we must be more watchful which thoughts really come from God!♡

  8. Those who haven’t access to Miscellaneous Writings can read the first part of
it in my earlier post of Ways that are Vain.

  9. Thank you very much, dear Evan to let us ponder this great and important topic today!
And thanks for all inspired comments.
Very helpful and upsolute clear is the article “J” gives us the link to, titled “physical illness”. It is very worth reading! ♡
Am always very very grateful for Evan’s healing SpiritView Blog with all the inspiring comments and links to relevant articles!♡♡

  10. Thanks J for the link to that very inspiring and helpful article. This stood out to me especially:
“We need to recognize clearly that disease is mental. Mortal mind seldom accepts this news readily. And sometimes talking or reading about this fact may seem easier than proving it when we think the body is telling us we feel sick.” I have found that proving is definitely much harder!!!

  11. That was an excellent article, J , Thank you for sharing it.
I used to have a friend, (it made me chuckle), who would be
proud that she had, like the article stated, a “head-in-the-sand”
approach to things and didn’t want to know the [T]ruth about
anything. “Ignorance is bliss” she used to say. In one way this
approach is helpful in dealing with/deleting (mortal) mind, but
apathy towards what needs to be corrected in the world is kind
of what (mortally speaking) got us into some of the challenges
    we are facing.
But as the article points out, “The discovery that Love is gently
empowering each of us with the spiritual knowledge and
inspiration that heal th may come instantly, or only after persistent,
consecrated effort. But we are wise to go sincerely to God, who
knows all there is to know of us in truth”.
Another good reminder from the article that I liked, “Nothing
encourages, comforts, reassures us like the conviction that divine
Love is omnipresent, filling the universe.”
