Profitable action

Never confuse motion with action.

~ Benjamin Franklin

There are times when it appears we are doing much, but in fact, accomplish little.

When acting on inspired spiritual ideas, we’ll accomplish much and have much to show for our efforts.

When moving about in fear or mindless repetition without inspiration, there may be little to show.

Let inspired purpose move you forward and the resulting gain will speak for itself.

  1. This reminds me of a line in a poem I’ve saved and framed from a Sentinel issue; “Never let me wander into fields of fruitless endeavor”. To me, it speaks volumes!

  2. Grateful for this reminder Evan!
I woke up this morning with the song in my head..Bring me higher love..’ It occurred to me it means so much more when you put the capital L in place for Love. Therefore , to me , giving an inspiring reaction /motivation to mere humming along.
I have also found on occasion that just reading and knowing the truth about a difficult situation has to be accompanied by Divine Love to bring active results / healing . Much , much still to learn.
    Happy day all❣️

    1. Last week Evan shared a quote from Socrates, along similar lines to today’s: “Beware the barrenness of a busy life.” Both remind us to let God’s direction be the motivator of our actions, and not be running off mindlessly in all directions.

I read the following on the tag of an herbal teabag, “Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished.” – Lao Tzu. I find that a calming thought, to just slow down and get in rhythm with God’s pace and timing so we can hear more of His thoughts from our shared divine Mind.

    2. Thanks Barbara for mentioning the song Higher Love, which I’ve always liked, and with your added meaning of Love with capital L, even better! I’m hearing that song in my head now, and I’m enjoying it!

  3. yep, the hurrier I work, the behinder I get. There is really on one purpose and that is spiritually discerned. thanks Evan for this wonderful reminder.

  4. Mrs. Eddy says “Rushing around smartly is no proof of accomplishing much.”
(Miscellaneous Writings 1883–1896, Mary Baker Eddy, p. 230:12)

  5. Thanks so much Evan for another very useful SV, I look forward to your words of wisdom, practicality and inspiration to begin each work week day.

  6. Thanks, Evan, for this photo. It “speaks” well to your topic.
Thank you everyone for the musical inspiration as well.
It reminds me of another lyric we can “uplift” with capitalization: ”Your Love is lifting me higher…”—our Father-Mother God’s love for all His/Her children.
As usual, the “capital L” makes all the difference in every moment of our lives! Thank you God for life, joy and harmony available to all to overturn the apparent opposites in life experience. So grateful for Mrs. Eddy’s encouraging statement that we can experience everyday—in some way:: “Love is the liberator.” (S&H 225:22).

  7. Thank you, Evan. Your post reminds me Luke 10:41, 42: “Martha, Martha, thou are careful and troubled about many things: but one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her”.
Good thing to think about it.
