Resolving conflict with neighbors

October 19, 2022 | 24 comments

Have you ever been upset or angry over actions of your neighbors?

I share how prayer resolved a trouble I had with neighbors while living in a large apartment complex.

This video was filmed on the Marina Dunes near Monterey, California, when my wife and I visited the area in May of 2022.

  1. Thank you Evan ,sharing us your experience. I love Christian Science because it teaches us nothing is impossible to God and that God is good, therefore all His creation are very good and obedient.

  2. It is 3 am and I am reading your blog with a huge smile on my face knowing that you will have a complete healing with your noisy neighbors. I, on the other hand, am blessed to have the most wonderful nieighbors., Loving, caring, supportive since last week my husband passed away suddenly. I am the only CS in the neighborhood, but the love that has been expressed to me has been simply Christly. Thank you Evan for these uplifting blogs that you supply daily and thank God that I have Christian Science to rely on at this time.

    1. Dear Debbie,

My heart goes out to you, and I am knowing that the Divine Comforter is with you.

Hymn 40 says that “Earth has no sorrow that Love cannot cure”. You can rely on Love’s
ever-presence to take you safely through this challenge.

      much love, Maggie.

      1. A big hug to you, dear Debbie. You are in Love’s comfort where
the endearing qualities of your husband live on and are with you,
        always.

  3. thank you so much for this. just what I need for a friend I’m praying with about a similar issue.
    God bless you. So powerful!

  4. I am so grateful for your key messages, dear Evan, which help me to gain a deeper understanding that I am indeed a spiritual being and always have a choice. Namely, to become still and pray, thereby escaping the illusion that I am a victim of material circumstances. However, if I do not use the opportunity of silent prayer, nothing will change in the material circumstances, because the “beam” is still in my eye. Therefore: Seek God first and He runs to meet you with ring and robe.

  5. Thank you Evan, for sharing the wonderful demonstration you made with very noisy neighbours.
It took real persistence on your part to stay with the spiritual facts under such circumstances –
and much faith in God. It certainly paid off. It encourages me to be persistent also
with staying with the Truth long enough to see the fruition of my prayers for difficult
situations. Truly God is very good to us, and we can prove it in the way Christian
Science teaches. I am very grateful to God and for Christian Science.

  6. Man’s extremity is God’s opportunity

Thank you Evan for reminding me that we must love our neighbor, no matter what!

  7. Thanks Linda! Such a humorous but wonderfully true first sentense in your comment.

Thank you Evan for a further great testimoney!
I had once a similar problem with one neighbor, and through prayer it was solved, too. I am very grateful to God he manifested Christian Science through Mrs. Eddy in today’s times.

  8. I can so much relate to your experience, Evan, only with dirt bikes,
4 wheelers, snowmobiles, paintballs, arrows (from bow and arrows),
etc. etc. I had a real feeling of hopelessness for a while, but also
learned to try to love these neighbors and to see them as children of
God. (The father had said, when I had initially confronted him and
nicely, that “the neighbors would just have to learn to live with it”.)
Not an easy thing to do. But eventually they moved out, right before
I did and now things are wonderfully peaceful and quiet. I am so
    grateful.

  9. Wow, what integrity to the Christ-Mind you fulfilled, Evan!

“If you do not permit the outward to become the inward, the inward will take care of the outward.”

(Attributed to Mrs. Eddy stated in one of her classes.)

  10. Thank you for sharing your healing, Evan. I am learning that sticking with pray-having perseverance within my thoughts is key.

I love the idea that we can only love God as much as we love our neighbor. This idea is so powerful to me- and a game changer for me to work on for a lifetime!

    Grateful for the Spiritview community.

  11. By ‘ loving our neighbour as ourself’ we are obeying the essence of Gods commandments. Thank goodness we have Christian Science to enable us to do and understand this , and what an incentive to see how you , Evan and others of this precious SV family have proved Gods care in this respect❣️

  12. Quite a sight to see those seals so peaceful and comfortable together, a good metaphor and lesson for us of the harmony in God’s universe.

I love what Evan said in his message, “If things aren’t looking good out there, change what’s going on in here, until you see it from God’s point of view, and then that’s what you’ll experience.”

I’ve often worked with the truth that Nothing can interfere with the peaceful enjoyment of my home, because God is in charge of it (and He’s also in charge of the peace of my neighbors). Best to all!

  13. Wow, thank you so much Evan for this wonderful testimony of the power of divine Love and Truth to heal us when we “continue in my word,. . . and . . . know the truth,” as Jesus promised. And thank you Tanja for your reminder about the beam in our own eye.

Pierre Pradervand’s book “The Gentle Art of Blessing” has been a great help to me along these lines.

  14. I bought that book and haven’t taken time to read it. Thanks for the reminder, Carolyne.

This subject is a good one. We can pray in any situation that appears adverse and God will take care of it. To see its nothingness.
    Thanks Evan and all. Love

  15. Evan. Thank you for this inspiring lesson on the power of prayer to reverse any in harmonious situation. This is so helpful to me at this time. Love to you and all.

  16. Thank you so much Evan for sharing your experience! It brought back memories of living in an apartment complex with similar issues. I really appreciate you sharing how this situation turned around for you and how you achieved peace and an expectancy of good in what appeared to be a very outwardly disruptive and discouraging situation. So encouraging! Enjoyed the beautiful scenery and so fascinating to see the seals harmoniously gathered together… no “seal egos” causing problems!

  17. Wonderful! Growing up in a large City and close to an even bigger City, my sisters and I used to love the excitement of the atmosphere. The shopping, the theater, the restaurants and museums, etc. Mostly, it was the people who interested us. Thinking back, we saw all kinds of cultures mingle and thought nothing of it even when the outward appearance was different from ours. I believe I can accept God’s presence including others as well as myself again. It is not so hard to be gracious. Thank you for this reminder.

  18. Those elephant seals are remarkable!! That was our favorite place in California, and we stared at them for a long time during our cross-country car trip visit! How many pictures did we take? Not telling! You would be shocked! This was a great blog on neighbors. When we were on Highway One, the elephant seal neighbors were playfully getting along with no worries of their own. They are God’s ideas just being there and spiritually existing. Harmony reigned. Harmony has also reigned in our neighborhood and our neighbors reflect thoughtfulness, kindness, and helpfulness. I enjoy shoveling snow and a couple of neighbors insisted on shoveling our driveway in heavy snow. As one started, another one came at the same time! Talk about double harmony! The job surely got done! I am truly grateful for neighborly love in our thinking first, home, community, church and everywhere!

  19. Wow, this is something I need to work on as well.

It is particularly frustrating for me to be respecting others when listening to my music, to always be using headphones so they don’t hear any endless thumping.

Yet I’m paid back with 3 surrounding houses undergoing constant remodeling, endless hours of table saws and pounding, a garage-rock drummer across the street and what almost seems to be an uncontrolled backyard playground with uncontrolled screaming well past midnight at times. If one source stops, the other starts! For years now.

Clearly I have work to do, thanks for the tips Evan!
