See yourself as immortal

September 21, 2018 | 22 comments

Which way do you see yourself? As a lacking mortal struggling to plod through a material sense of existence, or as an immortal living your full and abundant spiritual life now?

There is a big difference in effect between the two outlooks.

To believe one is a mortal, is to start from a flawed premise, namely, the belief that life is fraught with vulnerabilities, susceptible to lack, confined by limited possibilities and often faced with depressing options.

To know one is immortal, is to live one’s spiritual life now. There is no waiting. An immortal does not work up to perfection, but out from it. He does not see lack. He sees ways to express abundance. He is not afraid of disease, for he knows unfailing health. He does not dread death, for he knows eternal Life. He doesn’t worry about tomorrow, but enjoys a full and abounding life today.

God created you spiritual. God gave you eternal life. And you are living it now. The human timeline of birth, maturity, death, is not part of your history with God. It is as a shadow passing in the night that leaves no impression behind.

Think right. Live right. Identify with immortality and reap the benefits.

“Dear reader, which mind-picture or externalized thought shall be real to you, — the material or the spiritual? Both you cannot have. You are bringing out your own ideal. This ideal is either temporal or eternal. Either Spirit or matter is your model. If you try to have two models, then you practically have none. Like a pendulum in a clock, you will be thrown back and forth, striking the ribs of matter and swinging between the real and the unreal” Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 360.

  1. I’m hugging this article!
Identify with immortality and reap the benefits!!
Think about all that this includes!

  2. Rely on Christian Science to lead you to the divine Principle of Truth, Life & Love as recognized in Mind through the Spirit of Soul.

  3. Am I awfully grateful to be taught in Christian Science, and I embrace this wonderfully understandable SpiritView of today, and I feel embraced by it very lovingly; thank you very much dear Evan – actually like always.

One might think, yes I know that spiritual man is immortal, but we have to demonstrate it still. But, Evan, you give us the conviction that we are immortal now. Therefore I love your wonderful sentences: “To know one is immortal, is to live ones spiritual life n o w.. There is n o waiting. An immortal does not work up to perfection, but out from it, from our God-created spirituality. Oh thank you Evan for this uplifting lesson about our true God-given spiritual, healthy, joyful, creative Life!

I am just cooking a pumpkin soup with onions, potatoes and spices. It is nearly done. This pumpkin season just starts, and this will not be my last soup this late summer and autumn, because I love pumpkin soup.

Have you all a very lovely day living in Spirit. And thank you for your comments also for the coming!

  4. NOW is the time to be God’s perfect reflection. In college I struggled with the “ pendulum concept.” I finally realized there was only ONE choice and no other. “One with Mind is a majority.” The choice to side with Love, isn’t difficult, but a letting go human his-story or in my case her-story is the grand decision . My thanks to Evan & fellow followers. Have a blessed day& weekend

  5. Yes, the absolute truth: life as God’s perfect reflected image vs the mortal
    claim of life-in-matter and limitation.

The mortal picture does not match up with the spiritual; it cannot. It must be
risen-above, overcome, rejected as unreal, in human consciousness. This is
ongoing resurrection, salvation. A joyous journey Spiritward!

Thank you for your help in this divine endeavor, Evan, and all!

  6. This lesson was just what I needed. I felt such a sense of oneness and know we are always surrounded by God’s Love and not expecting the worst.

  7. “Striking the ribs of matter” The angel message that I heard the other day after listening to the lesson on Matter was, “Do you beleive the Adam dream? Can you beleive in a God that created woman from the rib of dust man? Are you still in a deep sleep?” That woke me up to the Truth that God could never create matter. Not the God I know and love and respect and worship! Never!

  8. Thank you, Evan. Including others in our prayer about immortal identity is so important also, as I learned recently.
On my way to serve in an inner-city Reading Room location, I glanced around the subway train in a desire to love my neighbor. My attention was drawn to a homeless man who was using the subway car for a place to sleep.
I had been cherishing the idea that “immortal” was as important as “spiritual” in my daily identification work. But I was very surprised by the angel message I received. “I am as immortal as that man.” Note: not he as immortal as I, but the reverse !!!
So it was very clear to me that I could not accept the unloving, mortal picture I was seeing of him, if I wanted to understand my own immortality !!!
I really wanted to let go of the mortal sense of man’s identity !!
This thought has continued to bless me, and I know it must have blessed him.

    1. Good thinking Sandy. This is something I continues to work on, seeing Christ’s good Spirit in everyone everywhere. Metaphysical thing is an ongoing blessing.

    2. Thank you Sandy, that`s very inspiring and to think about!!
It is spiritually natural that the homeless man was as truely God`s expression as you are or I am or anybody else is – God loves us all 🙂

  9. Thank you, Evan., No more wavering grasps between matter and Spirit to weigh me down. No more lukewarm beliefs between matter and Spirit. I choose Spirit into Life everlasting.

  10. Thank you , Evan and all for the good comments. Always helpful and healing.
I love what MBE says…and in our lesson….”Deny the existence of matter, and you can destroy the belief in material conditions.” S & H pg. 368:29-31
And, Uta….your soup sounds delicious!!!!!! Yum

    1. Yes, it is, could have invited you, there is enough, Kathy!

You are right, there are lots of thoughts in the lesson about the nothingness of matter and the allness of God, Life, Truth, Love and 4 wonderful further synonyms. This week`s lesson is so good and helpful! 🙂

      1. Sorry, Uta..tried putting a happy face on here but didn’t work.
Would love to be there with you eating your wonderful soup.
        Ok, have a happy day!

  11. Thanks Evan for sharing this Truth today. “I am” is God so that helps me seperate the lie about me when the opposite tries to tempt me into believing I have “human” difficulties to work throughIf I use the “I am” about myself, it has to be good because I reflect All God is and there is NO MATTER or material there. Adam never awoke from his dream and those who are still dreaming have wonderful spiritual tools to understand the importance of waking up I am so grateful for Christian Science
    Thank you, caydee

  12. Thank you so much, Evan and all. It brings to thought a statement Mrs. Eddy made in response to a question very pertinent to this blog. I have it posted on the bathroom mirror for a reminder on how to think of myself and others.. It is from MY 242 where she states: “You can never demonstrate spirituality until you declare yourself to be immortal and understand that you are so.” I love it and I loved your thought, Evan, in relation to lack: “He sees ways to express abundance.” Hallelujah!

  13. Thinking rightly, living rightly and spiritually is true freedom!!!!

Thank you Evan and everyone for your inspirational messages!!!
