Seek Spiritual Progress

December 31, 2014 | 8 comments

A New Year is right around the corner, and people often spend this time setting new goals.

Losing weight and getting out of debt top many lists of desires for the coming months, but there’s one goal that hopefully surfaces on everyone’s list—the desire to grow spiritually!

Spiritual growth brings the broadest amount of good one’s way because it opens thought to the ever-new possibilities of God. It breaks limited views, lightens dark corners, gets one out of imprisoning self, and reveals what God can do. It’s a rising tide that lifts all boats, as the old adage states.

So, when you’re making your list of goals for the New Year, don’t forget about God! God is your #1 Helper! Stay at God’s side, and you’ll end the year in a very progressive place.

“Every step of progress is a step more spiritual.”

~ Mary Baker Eddy, The People’s Idea of God, p. 1.

  1. Three things I pray
    To see thee more clearly
    Love thee more dearly
    Follow thee more nearly
    Day by day

  2. Thank Evan! And happy New Year. This is great advice. I am looking to include more of God’s spiritual grace into my life this year that I may work in His service for all that I meet along the way.

  3. Each day that I study the C/S Bible Lesson, I learn something spiritual. This week it’s title is “GOD.” The Responsive Reading shows clearly that we must praise and worship God only, not Jesus as many Christians do by exclaiming “Praise The Lord Jesus.”
There is a danger in that where it brings out that God could be human, thereby creating despots, dictators, cults run by humans declaring that their descendants of Jesus. Jesus had one cause and that was to teach men, like himself, was an image and likeness of God. Jesus was the human who understood this better than any other human and so brought recognition to us as that image. But he wasn’t God. He took instructions from God. Once this is understood, dictators, cult leaders, despots will vanish off the face of the earth, ISIS also.

  4. You say God is our #1 helper. Does that reverse your blog that God is not our Assistant.? I have loved it. I think the important thing is to stay in the knowledge that we are never separated from our Father-Mother Love.

  5. Recent challenges during this holiday season, some quite severe, have left me ever
more aware of the need for more spiritual growth.

Mortality, while a very unreal claim, nevertheless needs to be steadfastly confronted and overcome in all its aspects, by the application of divine truth. This is the gift of Christian Science to all mankind. We will all eventually awaken to the truth of being.

Thank You for Your Science, God!
