Self-sufficiency vs. God-sufficiency

Are you self-sufficient or God-sufficient?

Self-sufficiency is such a highly prized quality among millions of people that questioning its legitimacy may sound heretical. But there is a point where self-sufficiency can become a heavy weight to carry.

What does the self-sufficient person do when all his attempts to succeed fail?

What does the self-sufficient person do when all his resources run out?

What does the self-sufficient person do when all his friends forsake him and couldn’t care less about his future?

There is a limit to how far self-sufficiency can carry its practitioner. The resources and capacities of a human are limited and inevitably meet up against walls and obstacles that seem insurmountable. It’s the nature of human existence—limits, boundaries, lack. But all is not lost.

The route to greater possibility, opportunity and success is to move from leaning on the human mind and its material dependencies, to leaning on the divine Mind and its infinite capacities and assets.

God-sufficiency is the way to go!

“With God, all things are possible.”

  1. This is perfect. I’ve been studying Christian Science deeply, but when it comes to employment, I’ve been relying on Self-sufficiency. This morning my unemployment benefits ran out; I have no savings – none- $90 left in my checking account, the car payments are past due by three months – there are no persons in my life to turn to for a bail out – humanly speaking, there really is nothing left and the mortal picture looks pretty grim.

I’ve recently seen and demonstrated how aligning one’s thought with Spirit and not trying to heal a physical illness that, in fact does not actually exist, simply healing the “idea” profoundly and completely healed a friend’s pet who was perceived as dying. (He opened his eyes brightly, ate the food I extended to him – the first food he’d eaten in days – and then got up and walked.) The healing was instantaneous and complete to where the neighbors called me from their cell phone a half hour after the healing had taken place and said they sensed that he was not going to die. This was immediate and indisputable evidence of Truth and its far reaching effects.

So, my question is now, why is it that I don’t see how to apply this same Truth to material evidence of life circumstance, that I seem to have compartmentalized the one Truth into subcategories of healing? (I can see the error, that is apparant in human mind, here, but I’m having difficulty seeing freshly and clearly.) How to I gain complete, irreversable understanding?

    Thank you, Evan.

  2. Is 2+2…5??

Can you have that “fact” AND 2+2=4?

Can you have “I am broke” AND “I have infinite supply from God?”

    Do the math, friend.

I try to do the same thing, of course, but when I
see someone else trying to do “both” it come clearer
to me how impossible it is! We simply (well, ok, it
is not always simple. Childlike humility and trust simplify things, tho, I do believe.) must choose. This
is what is required, in the Science of mind-healing…that is, eliminating from the false mind all
beliefs that the Divine Mind, God, has not placed there.

As the tares have nothing to do with the wheat ~~
let’s focus more devotedly on the wheat…the truth
that we HAVE all that we need, NOW. In proportion as we do this, we will see it! (Study Mrs. Eddy’s words on proportion/proportionately/-ably/degree/ratio Very interesting!)

Just a few loving words from a CS friend,

    :<))

  3. To above job-seeker,

The same source that gave health to the pet, gives supply to you. God is the source of all strength and vitality, whether it manifests itself as the ability to walk or the ability to engage with profitable work.

Drop the notion that you are unemployed and without work. You do have work, current employment–to see the work God has put before you. You have value and worth, capacity and ability to show and demonstrate, and the universe around you provides ample opportunity for you to demonstrate your worth and value. Perhaps its different than you have humanly preconceived, but let those limited notions go too, and you’ll see a productive path you can walk down today that puts some of those skills you have to good use. I’m sure of it!

    Lots of love,

  4. Thank you Evan for responding to this person’s need with such love and kindness. You are the best

  5. Great post, Evan. Interesting to consider the difference between ‘self-sufficiency’ and “Self-sufficiency.” To many people the idea of a higher “Self” equates with being closer to God, or “the divine within me.”

To me that’s a stepping stone from the human self, which can be evangelized, to a better concept of who God is and what God is, what the “kingdom of heaven” means and when it’s within, how we can use that to better understand God.

  6. Hey Bob,

I like that, the difference between self and Self! Great expansion on the idea. Thanks for sharing.

  7. there is no duality in the law of good no possibility of lack no doing without no abscence of good ever. focusing on the presence of good imediately eliminates the false belief of lack in whatever form it may present. Jesus never doubted just went straight to the Source and healed the situation and so can you once thought is focused on the one Mind in control and Life is complete and Good!
