For something to do, we rented two jet skis for an afternoon, and took turns taking the little ones out on the water and scooting around ourselves from one end of a nearby lake to the other. It was a fun time for all.
While zipping around with my brother mid-afternoon, the water surface was a bit choppy from a light wind blowing through. The Sea-doo I was driving became quite a bumpy affair. Up and down, up and down, and jerked around I went. Turning this way and that to find a course of direction that wasn’t so bumpy but with no success, I decided the solution was to go faster! I chomped down on the throttle and started to fly over the waves instead of going up and down inside each one of them. Success! It was a much smoother ride.
While soaring above the waves and missing the dips below, I saw parallels with negotiating the peaks and depressions of the mortal dream of living in matter. If one’s thinking is dragging along in the belief of “I’m a mortal and I have to battle every problem mortal mind throws my way,” life can feel very bumpy. Existence becomes battling one problem after another with no end in sight. But if one wakes to the truth of being, and is mentally in the higher place of “I am a spiritual being living a spiritual life with God in Spirit,” one can soar above the dips and depressions of the mortal outlook and avoid them altogether. It’s a much more enjoyable journey with a lot less choppiness!
God gave all of us a “Sea-doo” of sorts that can keep us above the waves of error when used to its potential. It’s called spiritual mindedness!
Spiritual mindedness enables one to soar above the troubled views of mortal mind and stay out of them altogether.
So get on your spiritual “Sea-doo” today, chomp down on the gas, soar above the waves and stay out of the dips. The ride will be much smoother.
Just the message I needed to hear–thanks. Plan on hearing your lecture in Jamestown, NY on sunday
LOVE this! Identifying yourself as a spiritual being (and all mankind included) in a spiritual world here and now rather than morphing from a mortal being into a spiritual being someday brings such freedom from the mortal ups and downs! Hope this is headed to an article for the periodicals, Evan!
I am “up, up, and away” this morning, even tho I live in the desert of Eastern WA (where you too live, Evan. Thanks!
Sea-do, God does take care of you and me too!
