The SONY hack attack

January 7, 2015 | 10 comments

With all the headline news of recent weeks reporting the devastating effect of the hack attack on SONY, it is wise for spiritual thinkers around the world to counter the aggressive suggestions of helplessness and vulnerability that the attack implies.

We experience what we accept to be true, so it’s critical to not accept vulnerability and helplessness, whether the pressing issue is health-related or internet related. There is something that can be done. And the first place to start is with a resounding metaphysical defense and understanding of safety under the protecting power of the Most High.

I love the promises of safety I find in the 91st Psalm:

Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.

This I declare about the LORD: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him.

For he will rescue you from every trap…His faithful promises are your armor and protection….Do not be afraid of the terrors of the night, nor the arrow that flies in the day.

Do not dread the disease that stalks in darkness, nor the disaster that strikes at midday.

If you make the LORD your refuge, if you make the Most High your shelter, no evil will conquer you; no plague will come near your home. For he will order his angels to protect you wherever you go. NLT

The “shelter of the Most High” is the Mind of God. It’s a consciousness of Truth and Love that is immune to malicious attack. In it, evil cannot reach you or your affairs.

Spiritual mindedness prevents destruction from hack attacks, for spiritual mindedness is what inspires practical solutions that safeguard computers, shut down criminal activity on the Internet before it reaches its destination, and builds software that is not susceptible to abuse. Spiritual mindedness is what inspires progressive ideas to land in thought and bear fruit. Spiritual mindedness is a first line of defense from any potential attack. Spiritual mindedness is needed more than ever to keep our computer systems safe.

  1. Thank you, Evan, for having the 91st Psalm in my inbox the morning of the terrorist attack in Paris. Spiritual thinkers unite: “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”
    -Edmund Burke

  2. Thank you, Evan, for having this in my inbox this morning to counteract the fear I feel about the news in Paris. The 91st Psalm is timeless in its eternal comforting truth. Evil cannot triumph when good people refuse to allow it.

  3. Thank you Evan for this very relevant blog, which clearly states how completely turning to Mind, God is the answer to every situation. Here we find safety, protection, new and productive ideas and greater spiritual understanding.

  4. As long as we give humans the powers that belong to God Good only, we shall always be facing evil with the upper hand it doesn’t deserve.

  5. Wow! That sure puts it in its place! Lots of food for thought. I hadn’t given the situation much prayerful thought. Thanks for the wakeup call Evan!

  6. Thank you Evan. Thinks makes me think of the articles and testimonies I’ve read over the years of soldiers being protected from torpedo (hitting at such an angle it just bounced harmlessly along the underside of the ship), guns (that wouldn’t fire, though later they tested as working), Jesus walking unseen through the angry mob, the enemy cutting through a mountaintop defense, but turning back rather than coming through, and so many more. Even if someone’s name is on a hacker’s list, it, too can remain unseen. Hacking attempts can be turned back, etc. Yes, Mind can bring about practical solutions such as new software, but in addition, your comments remind me that evil is powerless, – a zero of any perceived size is still a zero.

  7. Thank you, Evan. Like Grace, I am especially grateful this afternoon for your reminder of how we can apply the 91st Psalm to evil actions of any sort – including today’s terrorist attack in Paris.

  8. “To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.” Isaiah 8:20. The people of God are directed to the Scriptures as their safeguard against the influence of false teachers and the delusive power of spirits of darkness. Satan employs every possible device to prevent men from obtaining a knowledge of the Bible; for its plain utterances reveal his deceptions. At every revival of God’s work the prince of evil is aroused to more intense activity; he is now putting forth his utmost efforts for a final struggle against Christ and His followers. The last great delusion is soon to open before us. Antichrist is to perform his marvelous works in our sight. So closely will the counterfeit resemble the true that it will be impossible to distinguish between them except by the Holy Scriptures. By their testimony every statement and every miracle must be tested.

Those who endeavor to obey all the commandments of God will be opposed and derided. They can stand only in God. In order to endure the trial before them, they must understand the will of God as revealed in His word; they can honor Him only as they have a right conception of His character, government, and purposes, and act in accordance with them. None but those who have fortified the mind with the truths of the Bible will stand through the last great
