Faith is taking the first step
even when you can’t see the whole staircase.
~ Martin Luther King, Jr.
God always sees further than we do, and when we wisely put our hand in the Divine, and let God lead us forward, we will be led upward and onward.
Martin Luther King had great faith in the power of God, no matter what mortal mind did to his body, he never gave it a thought that God was dead. So shall we instil that complete trust and faith in us that he had so that we can overpower that wrong thought that tries so hard to bring us down.
Cheeeeeeering for another cure for fear and inertia.
The heavy inertia of ‘remaining at rest’, or mechanically doing the same thing over & over is a hazard to the Progress and Spiritual Growth that most of us desire & need.
My dormant understanding of church and life mission was ROUSED by this directive in Science & Health, p. 459 :8 —>
“Judge not the future advancement of Christian Science by the steps already taken,
lest you yourself be condemned for failing to take the first step. ”
[[ I humbly think of that ‘first step’ as also the ‘next’ step, and another ‘next’ step. Both in my personal progress and the outreach of my church in sharing healing with millions of unprejudiced sisters and brothers. ]]
As I pray I strive to be receptive for those ever advancing ‘first steps’.
Mrs. Eddy tells us that, “Truth, independent of doctrines and time-honored systems,
knocks at the portal of humanity. Contentment with the past , . . . . [is] crumbling away.”
… “It is the task of the sturdy pioneer to hew the tall oak ad to cut the rough granite.”
(Preface, p. vii ;13, 23 )
I pray to be a “sturdy pioneer” with devotion to our traditions and also courage to advance our sacred principles to keep abreast of the emerging needs and opportunities we face.
Ah, what fresh adventures and proofs of God’s care.
That was a lovely photo. From bottom to top is quite a stretch. I sometimes feel as though I must be closer to street level than even towards the middle . Every step that proves God’s presence makes the way more approachable. It would be wonderful to have unflappable faith. I have great admiration for those who do. Each proof of God’s care does make us stronger.
Thanks Evan, for this article .
Abigail smile from me, seeing you in keukenhof seroundings, I hope more CS lectures will come and see all those flowers.
Greetings, Naseem
The note above is for the flower-picture of Evan, in Keukenhof, that is semi man made! But the stairs fully manmade: fantastic and great. We see working together an idea of a great man’s idea! But who gave this man that – great idea? .. Is it not The Great God ?! Can we let flowers grow without God’s help? Am I untrouble by asking this question ? Naseem
Every good and beautiful idea comes from God. Man reflects God’s creative power, but man is not the source of that power. Yes, flowers certainly do grow without man’s help! The wild is filed with evidence of that. The gardens, which came together with the aid of man’s hands is also representative of a beautiful idea glimpsed. Both the wild and the gardens have beauty to be appreciated and valued. One does not have to exclude the other.
