The most important daily activity

“Never stop praying.”

~ Apostle Paul, I Thessalonians, 5:17, NLT

Never stop praying. Really! Is that possible? You might be wondering.

It is possible if you understand prayer.

Prayer is not time you take off from other activity. Prayer is not words carefully phrased. Prayer is not an extracurricular activity you get to when you have time. Prayer is a consciousness of God’s presence that you can have at all times, whether using words or not, and during any activity.

For instance, how often do you breathe? Do you have to take time off to breathe? Do you have to allot special times each day to breathe? Or, do you do it all the time, whether thinking about it or not? Probably the latter.

The ideal prayer is the same way. It’s not something you have to turn off and on. At its best, it’s a consciousness of Love’s presence you have all the time.

Never stop praying is equivalent to never stop being aware of God’s presence in all its large and small forms. Never cease being grateful. Never hold back from expressing Love in everything you do and with every person you meet.

Prayer makes life so much easier and enjoyable. You can never pray too much.

  1. Wow – what a perfect thought-starter for the day – to constantly practise the presence of God. Helps me remain faithful – trusting the power of my thoughts of God.

  2. Our Spiritual Thoughts, although silent, tends to maintain our daily needed values .

  3. Thankyou Evan! I love “prayer is not words carefully phrased ” but it IS “consciousness of God’s presence”….as it is often hard to find the “right” words.
This thought will return every time I wonder how I should pray about something now!

  4. Perfect. After reading this I think I understand better what living a life of prayer means. Now, I’m off to practice it. Thanks so much.

  5. Thank you Evan, for reminding that God is ever with us and that that is prayer – needed it this morning specially.

  6. Vow… What a wonderful thought you shared about prayer Evan. So beautiful and good.. Prayer is the consciousness of Gods presence with us at all times. Thanks so very much. We so needed this reassurance today.
When we are faced with problems, trials, disappointments we feel so separated from good, from God. But when we realize and understand that no trials, no disappointments no nothing at all can separate us from the love of God, we feel His presence all the time which is so reassuring, so comforting, so freeing, so uplifting and equal to any emergency.
Mrs. Mary Baker Eddy says in her writings. “If we trust in God never doubting, we will have all that we need every moment.” Be it the need of courage, moral strength, comfort, love, care, finance, job, good partner, good house of anything. The important thing is, we need to put all our trust in God and never doubt His care and love for us.
Being grateful all the time and expressing love in everything we do and to every person we meet, is a good prayer too, as Evan mentions in the inspiration of today.
Thanks again Evan for so beautifully bringing out the essence of Prayer.

  7. Thanks, Evan, for a clear definition of what “prayer without ceasing” is. I believe the quote Nergish refers to is from Miscellaneous Writings, page 307:2-5, “Never ask for tomorrow: it is enough that divine Love is an ever-present help; and if you wait, never doubting, you will have all you need every moment.” I think the “never doubting” is especially important. This is a quote I use daily as it applies to any need I may have.

  8. Thanks, Evan, and all the Wonderful Commenters! “Pray without ceasing”…….In other words, act as if we are living in the Kingdom of Heaven right Here and Now…..Because we Are!!! I also feel we need to Feel God’s Presence, not only in our Heads with words and the mind and intellect, but with our Whole Being. It’s really more of a “Felt Presence” How to feel God’s Presence with us Here! Much Love!

  9. Thank you Evan! I am encouraged! Even while I am knitting, making a meal, socializing with friends, or emailing, I am praying by expressing God in every activity! Precision, organizing, friendliness, caring are all expressions of God. In S&H it says on page 4 “The habitual struggle to be always good is unceasing prayer.” So as we go about our daily activities, we are praying by expressing God, good. And we are affirming that we are always good by this expression!

  10. Evan, I am so grateful for this . And Nergish, Bevi and Barbara your comments added a lot for me. Thank you all.

  11. Living is a prayer for it is my conscious that does the living. In order for LIFE to exist, I must be conscious of it. So prayer is the important daily activity as proof.
