The most important item on your shopping list

December 4, 2018 | 13 comments

For those of you who love to shop, here’s one item worth shopping for that tops all others.

“Buy truth, and do not sell it; buy wisdom, instruction, and understanding.”

~ Proverbs 23:23, NRSV

And if you don’t like to shop, this is one item sure to get you enthused about acquiring something new and useful.

Truth is worth the effort it takes to find it. It also registers an unnoticeable impact on your budget.

  1. Wonderful message for the season (and throughout the year)! This is the most important message to remember in the hustle bustle of life! Thank you, Evan! You have provided most wonderful inspiration again! Grateful!

  2. Thank you Evan and all. This helps keep us focused on the reason for this season. It is a wonderful season to embrace and experience.

  3. Thank you, Grace, for the amazing gift you mentioned (above) – lecture by Julie Ward, CSB. Listened to it immediately before going off to work. Brought tears to my days – tears of gratitude – for all the
amazing inspiration in this blog and for all the contributors who further add to the joy of my days!
Thank you all for bringing such an awareness of good to light! Happy day!

  4. Here’s what Mrs. Eddy says in Miscellaneous Writings (page 342): “Seek Truth, and pursue it. It should cost you something: you are willing to pay for error and receive nothing in return; but if you pay the price of Truth, you shall receive all.”

  5. That`s right Kathyw, and thank you for your loving comment!

And thank you Grace for the link (which itself is a great gift) to Julie Ward`s gorgeous lecture on the little Town of Bethlehem. It goes a bit more than 30 minutes. And when I started to listen to that lecture I could not get enough of it and watched and listened to the end. It is awesome and full of lovelyness. And it is biggest item on my today`s shopping list – I enjoyed it and it satisfied me totally! After that I went shopping joyfully.

And thank you Melissa for Mrs. Eddy`s words from Mis. p. 342. All comments today are very helpful thanks!

Thank you Evan to make me think at my shoppinglist this spiritual way, I love the Bible verse from Proverbs 23.

  6. Grace, I can’t thank you enough for sharing this link to Julie Ward’s lecture. I had just finished studying the Bible lesson “Christian Science” before tuning into this blog. My decorating for Christmas is complete, Christmas cards ready for mailing, and I was inspired to just feel gratitude for the love of Christ Jesus and what he gave to the world from now and until Christmas. I have saved this link and will listen to her talk again many times. May we all “be still and know that God is here right now and always.”

  7. Thanks to all for your loving comments. I can’t wait to listen to the lecture! Today I’m off to play the piano to accompany a “senior” chorus that is giving a Christmas recital at a retirement/rest home. I’m shopping for the wisdom, truth, and love to share with the chorus members and the residents of the home. I’m so grateful for what God had given us through His son, Christ Jesus, and His daughter, Mary Baker Eddy. We are all part of God’s wonderful family! We are so blessed. Again, thank you.
