The Rock of Christmas

December 23, 2021 | 27 comments

“The basis of Christmas is the rock, Christ Jesus; its fruits are inspiration and spiritual understanding of joy and rejoicing, — not because of tradition, usage, or corporeal pleasures, but because of fundamental and demonstrable truth, because of the heaven within us. The basis of Christmas is love loving its enemies, returning good for evil, love that “suffereth long, and is kind.” The true spirit of Christmas elevates medicine to Mind; it casts out evils, heals the sick, raises the dormant faculties, appeals to all conditions, and supplies every need of man. It leaves hygiene, medicine, ethics, and religion to God and His Christ, to that which is the Way, in word and in deed, — the Way, the Truth, and the Life.”

~ Mary Baker Eddy, Miscellany, p. 260

  1. Mrs Eddy’s instructive way with words is astounding. What a wealth of Mind vistas are captured here. It encapsulates All. Every Day is Christmas. Wishing all our dear Family in the Kingdom a precious time together in Spirit celebrating and rejoicing in our Christ Identity, beyond Earth’s remotest border, and free from misinterpretation, unalloyed. Much love ❤️

  2. Thanks Evan:
It is really good to know these things..this our thoughts completely from the material aspect of Christmas and challenge our thoughts to a higher and more spiritual realm.
The place where we aught to be.

  3. Thank you so much! We are one family in God’s kingdom.celebrating and rejoicing every day .what a wonderful gift!

  4. The words felt is so precious which is more than reading just words. That is the kingdom of which we are all a part of.

  5. The Christmas story is beautiful. Expounding the all ness of the Christ…Divine Love …forever there for us all to experience and to share. Thank you Evan for bringing the light of understanding to everyone that SV touches. Thank you also for MBE profoundly explaining our Divine rights and responsibilities to ourselves and humanity. I’m very grateful to connect with everyone here and send joyous blessings to all. The Rock Mrs Eddy refers to IS❣️

  6. I love the part of the quote where she says that the true spirit of Christmas supplies every need of man and, “It leaves hygiene, medicine, ethics and religion to God and His Christ.” (Hygiene was a form of natural healing popular in Mrs. Eddy’s time). That quote made clear that it is not for me to make human judgement and criticisms about worldly approaches, but to leave all that stuff to God and keep my focus humbly on Him and His Truth and care in all areas of my life. Much love and gratitude to Evan and all here, and blessings at this special time of Light. This forum is a lifeline for me. To connect with all of you blesses me and helps me remember how many of us there really are who quietly pray and work together joyfully to recognize Truth and embrace all in that Truth.

    1. May I add my Amen to this! SpiritView IS a Life-line! I feel uplifted each day as I ponder Evan’s subject & follow the diverse ideas coming from each thought-contributor.
We are blessed beyond measure because we have been shown the Truth Christ, God as Love.
      Love to every one.

    2. I feel the same way When someone complained about what someone else believed or was doing, Jesus said, “What is that to thee? Follow thou me.” “Taking Offence” by Mary Baker Eddy in Misc. Writings also reminds me to love and trust God more.
Thank you, Evan, for giving us Spirit View and for the shared comments. You are all a part of
      my treasured “family”.

  7. “Mother” we were born by Her, loved and nurtured by Her, taught by Her, protected by her, and now we understand that She is our ever present God. The Mother and Father of us all.
Christmas always revolved around Mother. Mother-Love is so very near today as we entertain wishes for each other, because of our focus on the season “Of peace on earth and good will toward man”. As so ably expressed by those here it’s always Christmas. A time for healing, a time for revealing. We are to forward this understanding and give continually, silently and with praise and gratitude. The wonder of Christmas.
My prayer is to be with God’s, my Mother’s children.
‘Father where Thine own children are, I love to be.”
To those who have no human mother, She is always with you, She is Love.
    Thank You Evan and everyone.
Blessings and gratitude to all. Merry, Merry Christmas!

Daily study starting with Spirit View, Daily Lift, and the lesson and contemplating and writing inspired thoughts fill the mornings with gratitude and joy. and start the day with Father, Mother, Love at hand. Thanks David B. for your comments.
One morning this week I filled 5 notebook pages with everything I am grateful for, and everything that was bothering me has resolved and lifted. Things are going along smoothly.
Wishing all a harmonious Christmas Day and every day.

    1. Jane you remind me of myself, I’m always getting inspirations and writing them down on whatever I can grab, notebook, back of envelope, back of a shopping list whatever. Sometimes I come across something I wrote a long time ago at just the time it’s needed for a current situation. Glad to hear that all your poured out gratitude lifted off every “problem.” Blessing to you!

    1. Oh, Angie. Thank you for you gifts so very often supporting the message presented here on Evan’s SpiritView.
May the “Universality of Christmas” be your forever experience.
Love filling your carefully hung stocking. Charity and gladness in each wrapped gift.
Kindness under your tree. Happiness framed by your wreath. Neighbors bringing cookies of good thoughts. The perfect peace coming from our dear Christ in each answered prayer.

Lovingkindness, from all our family, God’s family.

      1. Thank you dear David for such a tender Blessing -a true highlight on this most Wonderful holy-day of recognizing Christ all-presence.
May you & all our amazing SpiritView precious family, Evan in particular, freely feel the All-encompassing Love of our One dear Father-Mother God, who always guards & guides us as God’s tenderly loved & cared-for Family of God’s Perfect creation.

  11. A tradition in my family was reading “The Story of The Other Wise Man” by Henry Van Dyke, and I have carried it on. If you haven’t read it, I highly recommend it. Briefly, the 4th wise man was on his way to join the other 3 on their way to see the baby Jesus. However, on his way he helped many who were needy and thus arrived after the 3 wise men left and he missed seeing the baby Jesus.
May your Christmas be overflowing with love and joy!

  12. Thank you very much dear Evan for this passage by Mary Baker Eddy from Miscellany. The title of the article, out of which today’s SpiritView text is an excerpt, is “The Science of Christmas.” I find it very comforting and uplifting, specially the last two long sentences. When I ponder them I become aware that the holiy truth therein is just what is very much needed in these time’s situations. Mrs. Eddy’s words are so uplifting and healing, and they are so wonderfully timeless. Am grateful for and to her for her incredible work she did for humanity.♡

  13. From Miscellany by Mary Baker Eddy pg 262
“I love to observe Christmas in quietude, humility, benevolence, charity, letting goodwill towards man, eloquent silence, prayer and praise express my conception of Truth’s appearing”.

“Mother wishes you all a Happy Christmas, a feast of Soul and a famine of sense”. Miscellany pg 263 by Mary Baker Eddy.
