Thoughts on humility

The following thoughts on humility were forwarded to me by a reader. I found them very comforting.

“Humility is perpetual quietness of heart.  It is to have no trouble.  It is never to be fretted or vexed, or irritable, to wonder at nothing that is done to me, to feel nothing done against me.  It is to be at rest when nobody praises me, and when I am blamed or despised.  It is to have a blessed home within myself where I can go in and shut the door, and kneel to my Father and be at peace, as in a deep sea of calmness, when all around seems trouble.  With humility you can’t be hurt, disappointed or discouraged.  When humble, we are so close to God that the material senses just can’t touch us anymore.”
~ Andrew Murray

  1. This is going to be printed and put on my desk. It is wonderful, thank you for sharing, Evan.

Humility is something I am yearning to realize, it removes self from the equation. I am learning it is not a submissive state, but a state of reflection where the human ego is put to rest. The man/woman God conceives and knows is what WE are seeing and knowing as well.

  2. I googled it … by Andrew Murray,(May 9, 1828 – January 18, 1917) a South African writer, teacher, and Christian pastor

  3. Oh my grateful heart! I had lost this quote thirty years ago and lo, here it is again, and with the bonus of knowing the author (thank you Anonymous!)

This affirms that nothing is really lost. Divine Mind
    is all-knowing.

    Thank you, Evan.

    :<))

  4. Thank you so much for this quieting quotation. Even though I am now living in the Philippines and things seem at times chaotic, I find rest in quiet moments with God and gratitude for my relationship to Him. That enables me to comfort and quiet others who need to feel uplifted.

  5. This is so true, from my own experience.
It reminds me of a film I once saw called “The Philanthropist” with Edward Fox, He had a benevolance toward everybody regardless of the world around him being envelloped in complete dismay.
