Do you trust your ability to be successful in achieving good results with your career, homelife and prayers? It’s important to trust lest you unwittingly get pulled down a path of failure without seeing it ahead of time.
Consider these words that Mary Baker Eddy wrote about achieving success.
“Science reveals the possibility of achieving all good, and sets mortals at work to discover what God has already done; but distrust of one’s ability to gain the goodness desired and to bring out better and higher results, often hampers the trial of one’s wings and ensures failure at the outset”
Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 260.
To repeat, “…distrust of one’s ability…hampers the trial of one’s wings and ensures failure at the outset.”
Avoid failure, by knowing ahead of time why you will be successful in whatever worthy endeavor you are engaging.
As a child of God, you reflect all of God’s abilities and talents. You are not a faulty mortal prone to making endless mistakes. You are a glorious immortal endowed with teeming talent and a clear understanding of how to accomplish all good.
You never act alone. You act on God’s inspiration and God gives you all the insight, wisdom, and foresight you need to be successful in accomplishing good and worthy results.
God never fails in reaching His lofty goals, and neither does God’s reflection—you!
God backs you up 100%. Trust this truth and demonstrate it beyond doubt.
Yes! “What God has already done.” That’s the key.
“Distrust of one’s ability” is really distrust of One, one God, of everyone’s oneness with God. Distrust in oneness is a trust in separateness, in everyone’s separation from God, good– a trust in mortal mind’s false, unreal, imperfect images.
There’s a wonderful article entitled “Confidence” by Martha Harris Bogue (3/03 CS Journal), an early worker sent out to cure a mom paralyzed for ten years. She wanted to get off at every train stop along the way and have them send someone else.
“If only I had the confidence!” she thought. Then she realized she did. She had supreme confidence that she’d fail! But was the call for her or Science? Did she need confidence in mortal self? No! In Truth. Did she have confidence in Truth? In what “God has already done?” Perfect God, perfect man? She did. So the rest of the ride was taken up in realizing why. The mother was healed by that evening.
So very helpful. A lot of today’s advertising, in all places, sells the idea that we lack ability, judgment, strength, etc. — and then tries to sell us something to remedy that. The best remedy is not to buy into the belief of a lack in the first place.
Evan, thank you SO MUCH for this posting. It’s SO HELPFUL — just what I needed! I used to affirm, “What’s right – an idea in Mind – has all it needs for success and achievement not failure”; but have neglected to know and have confidence in my ability to realize and demonstrate this. I can’t tell you how much the wonderful ideas you’ve shared mean to me and help wake me up! THANK YOU, THANK YOU!
Curran, thanks for the alert re the huge and aggressive advertising industry’s thrusts
at unsuspecting folks who are looking for remedies and answers to their problems, unfortunately not in the right ways. Truth is the answer! Not medicines, drugs, etc.
Divine Mind is our “medicine!”
“God being All-in-all, He made medicine; but that medicine was Mind. It could not have been matter, which departs from the nature and character of Mind, God.” (Pg 142, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy.)
(For similar references, see pages 150:31, vii: 16, 316. There’s a lot more on this subject.)
(I’m doing a Reading on this huge subject for tomorrow’s Wednesday Testimony Meeting.
A privilege!)
:<))
Yes, beautiful, true words of wisdom from Mrs. Eddy and from Evan! It takes work to be willing to give up a mortal sense of self and to embrace our true spiritual self. Many, many high minded masters of overcoming the ego have travelled this path and have shared so much with us! Look at Jesus, Buddha, Eckhart Tolle, etc. It’s in the Bible, in Science and Health, and many Books of Truth. It takes work and willingness and I know I often use such aids as therapy and12-step support groups, as they tend to meet me where I’m at. And it all helps! I love having compassion for myself as I move gently down this path – holding myself in Love and not condemning myself if I haven’t achieved yet what I’ve set for my goals and achievements. It takes what it takes – and most of all, it takes a tremendous amount of Love for myself! Blessings, Love and Compassion to All!

what a wonderful article you told us about. Here is a link for anyone to read it.
https://journal.christianscience.com/issues/1903/3/20-12/confidence
Hi Paul, thank you for that link. But I cannot open it to read because I did not subscribe to the Journal, but buy it from time to time from our RR.
Could you or perhaps someone else open the link so that we all can read it? Would be very grateful! 🙂
Hi Ute,
So glad you liked yesterday’s article Withdraw Your Consent. Try this link to the article diane w.a. referred to called Confidence. Hope it works for you.’ https://journal.christianscience.com/shared/view/114poduo1xo?s=e
thanks dear Karen and Beatrice – both your ĺinks are perfectly working. will print it out and study it later.
Am very very happy and thankful we can help each other !!
Me too Uta!
Helpful beyond words – brilliant! Thank you Evan!
Thank you Evan for today`s SpiritView. I love the bees very much; they are also God`s lovely and useful creatures! 🙂
Reading the article by Nathan A. Talbot “Withdraw your consent”, for which Karen gave us yesterday the full link, is very very helpful also for today`s spiritual views Evan gave us so lovingly.
Thank you Diane for that wonderfully inspiring testimony by Martha Harris Bogue from the March 2003 Journal. I hope there is a SpiritView friend, who could give us a readable link to that article. Looking forward to it ! 😉
It is an article from the C.S. Journal of March 1903:

Thanks diane for recommending “CONFIDENCE” by Martha Harris Bogue and Paul for giving us the link to this outstanding article. Although it is 10 pages long, I have printed it out as I want to be able to refer to it again and again. I think we can all use more confidence – I definitely can!
Thanks, Evan, for the timely and inspiring words! Yes, I have to catch myself in, “What if I make a mistake?” Confidence in God’s abilities—“I can do all things through Christ.” We are the reflection, not the doer.
thank you Daphne. – the same with me from time to time.
But yes, that Bible vers is very strengthening and giving confidence
”I can do everything through Christ,
who empowers me”
so in that sense.
Thank you all!
Wow Uta, that’s an awesome translation of that Bible passage! I hadn’t heard it in those words before, but absolutely LOVE it. Because that’s exactly what God does – EMPOWERS us!
And thanks to all for the wonderful comments and article recommendations! As well of course to Evan, for the great message today. Curran’s observation is just what I was thinking the other night, when watching TV – everyone’s trying to say there’s something wrong with us, and only they can fix it. It’s a giant con job! God gives us all we need, st every moment.
The honeybees have it. We are never alone, and we are one with God who will see us through every trial for a successful outcome. Thank you, Evan.☺
I ditto Lorie: Thanks Diane for recommending “CONFIDENCE” by Martha Harris Bogue,
from March 1903 Journal, and Paul for giving us the link to this outstanding article. I think we can all use more confidence – I definitely can!
