Truth gives power to argument

February 21, 2013 | 2 comments

When you debate with another person, do you raise your voice to gain the upper hand in conversation? Do you believe the louder you talk or yell the more convincing your argument will be or the more certain you are to win the point?
Here are some words of advice:

“You raise your voice when you should reinforce your argument.”

~ Dr. Samuel Johnson

It’s not the decibels or volume of your voice that win others to your side. It’s the truthfulness of what you say and the love in which you impart it. Loud yelling closes minds, and often creates exactly the opposite outcome from what you want.

  1. Thank you Evan for this reminder. As ACOP (Assistant Committee on Publication) our State COP always reminds us “when talking or speaking about Christian Science, always speak in a Christian manner.”

  2. Yes! So right you are, Evan. Raising voices doesn’t help at all. I know, I have experienced it. Sometimes, in protest, raising one’s voice is necessary. But it has to be based on God’s will and not your own to be effective. IT WORKS EVERY TIME.
