Unchangeable perfection

January 5, 2017 | 41 comments

You have the unchangeable perfection of God to rejoice in today.

Mortal mind characterizes all of God’s creation in material imperfect terms. But God’s creation is not material. It is spiritual. It is perfect. And you are included in it.

Your true being, your spiritual being, your only being, reflects the perfection of God.

Like a circle is forever round, your being is forever perfect.

Like 3 + 3 is always six, you and God always equal perfection.

God governs your being 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, forever and forever.

There is never a single solitary moment, not even a Nano-second, when God is not governing your being keeping it entirely perfect.

You never slip from perfection. You never lose it. It is never temporarily taken from you. You can’t forget it, lose track of it or fail to reflect it.

You and God’s perfection are forever one, inseparable, invincible, eternal.

The perfection of God you reflect is unchangeable.

“God is the creator of man, and, the divine Principle of man remaining perfect, the divine idea or reflection, man, remains perfect. Man is the expression of God’s being” Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health, p. 470.

  1. Perfect – perfectly good – perfectly what I need for today – thank you so so much, dear Evan ;-))

  2. Thank you Evan, for seeing man’s perfection…our perfection…so clearly and for sharing
this insight with us…every day! Thank you! 🙂

  3. Hymn 20 in the CS Hymnal came straight to thought: God is the only perfect One: My perfect self is one with Him;
Thanks so much Evan – perfect inspiration for a perfect day!

  4. Dearest Evan.
This is just what I need, thank you, you always put your blogs most convincingly. You let the Christ shine through. The world is blessed.

  5. True, how very true that 3+3=6 and thereby its form is understood as an equation, being in balance. Any resulting number other than 6 would not be an equation, it would be erroroeous, hence not true, not balanced. There must be total balance by law without forcing or plugging. There needs to be understanding of the mathematical principle. So it it is with divine Science. We need to understand its Principle, God. There is but one God, having only good attributes or qualities, known as individual thought or idea. So it is with math; only one guiding principle the number one (1), all other digits are ideas, manifestations or reflections or expressions of one. Number 2 is 1+1 and thus holds the name of two (2). And so forth. Much like mankind and wildlife. Reflecting more or fewer of God’s attributes and knowing they are in their rightful place, serving their designated placement or position at just the right moment for the intended right purpose. So it is with our conforming to the Christ, Truth, the one Principle governing all. Christian Science is that true knowledge, omniscience which “drives us forward” to our correct destination, at the correct moment, to serve our correct purpose known to Principle, God, divine Mind, without any forcing or plugging. This is our demonstration or healing at this moment. This is bringing balance to our indivual purpose, the eternal and perfect equation, gratefully.

    1. What a clear explanation of the one guiding principle, the number one. You provided reinforcement of healing which has corrected an imbalance, at this very moment when I need it. Thank you.

  6. SH 259:11-14 “The Christlike understanding of scientific being and divine healing includes a perfect Principle and idea, — perfect God and perfect man, — as the basis of thought and demonstration.” (Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy).
Jesus’ words: Be ye perfect even as your Father in heaven is perfect is another way to say this!
Thank you, Evan for reminding us that perfection is how we are designed.

  7. I couldn’t help but SMILE when I opened this wonderful blog this morning. What a sweet, joyous photo! Thank you, Evan and all of the commenters above. Such a great way to start the day. Happy Perfect day everyone!

  8. Thank you Evan. What a great reminder that God is perfect and that fact never changes…therefore God’s reflection, us, is constantly all harmonious and that fact never changes.

I love to think of the word “immutable” in relation to God and His reflection (man and the universe). Webster’s dictionary defines immutable as:

invariable; unalterable; not capable or susceptible of change.

Not capable of change! I love the idea that the perfection of God, and therefore man, is not even capable of being changed. It is impossible to change perfection so as to cause discord!

What healing ideas you have shared with us today! Thanks again!

  9. Thanks so much for the encouragement. My entire spiritual walk has been troubled with feelings of not measuring up, not quite good enough. Am working diligently with keeping ever before me the Truth of my status as God’s child not a child of the world or mortal minds rendition of a me. Listened to a Chat with Michael Pabst and liked the thoughts he shared. One of them that really stuck with me is that there is no “check list.” Ten Commandements, Semon on the Mount and a few others are the RESULT of KNOWING how Loved and Precious we are not a check list to see if we can measure up. And his comments on how God YEARNS to have a relationship with His Creation and know His Love for us were extremely comforting. We are dearly and deeply Loved, nothing can ever change that.

  10. Christian Science reveals to mankind the scientific, absolute facts of Life, Truth, Love.

The Dream of the five senses reveals…
    nothing real.

The human seems to be caught in this Dream.
But this CLAIM is part of the Dream!

God’s idea, man, can never be less than man.
    Can/could never become a “dreamer,” a “human,” a “mortal.”

We are God’s man right now. We can never be anything else but!

    Amen

  11. The renewing example let us know who we really are.

Thanks, as I look forward to your blogs. It helps me make the day begin.

  12. It is not difficult to understand the concept of Gods good and perfect creation and man as a perfect idea and expression of Divine Mind of God…
What is hard to understand is …What did I just stub my toe on…
It is postulated that God did not create “matter” that what we call matter is a false interpretation of the 5 senses of mortal mind….Where did these 5 senses come from…what are they…..S and H chapter on Genesis is helpful but does not answer this question for me…
I would like to hear a ‘Scientific” explanation with out using the the words Adam and Eve and the Serpent of knowledge of good and evil…
There is only one reality, yet we live in two but, one of them is false, an illusion
There is only one Mind, yet we experience two …one Divine and one mortal which is false
Senses are part of the false mind that we think we experience…or are we really experiencing it.
Well we certainly are putting in a lot of time and effort so as not to experience it….
Well thats because we are in the “human stage” of development….What…? then what is human
Gods creation is complete, perfect and nothing can be added or taken away…
If anyone cares to help i would rather hear of your own ideas and contemplations than quotes from MBE which i have seen can be used as a substitute for knowledge, some by,in other words knowing quotes does not mean we understand anything… The knowledge in SH , I find, has to be contemplated, wrestled with, suffered over because when the deep understanding arrives you find and entirely different reality….to me this is earth shaking news…and the “Good News” of our beloved friends Christ Jesus and Mary Baker Eddy…

    1. Hi Maximo,

I’m not sure this will help, but out of love here is what I have to offer as possibly a partial response to your question.

Recently when considering “what causes error (discord, sickness, disease, etc.)”, it occurred to me that what we view as error is really just a suggestion of the “opposite” of truth. In other words, as soon as any “truth” is established, immediately it becomes possible to suggest the opposite of that truth by simply putting the word “not” in front of the statement of truth.

For example, as soon as 3+3 is 6 became truth, the belief of 3+3 is not 6 also became possible to suggest as truth. And those ignorant of the truth might believe 3+3 is not 6.

On page 102 of Science and Health is the statement:

      …animal magnetism…is a mere negation…

This realization has been helpful to me in my practice of Christian Science by revealing more clearly to me that error is just an “ignorance” of the truth. So now when I pray, and I feel I’ve gotten to a point that I truly understand the truth about some situation, I don’t get discouraged if the suggestions of error sometimes continue to come to me. I’m now more able to simply ignore those suggestions at that point by understanding they are “a mere negation” of the truth and that helps me a) hold to the truth and b) results in me thinking again about the truth I have just prayed with by reversing the error of the suggestion. And by continuing to hold to the truth I find that eventually the erroneous suggestions stop coming to me.

I guess this is a long winded way of saying that I concluded nothing really “causes” error. Again, for every truth there exists the suggestion of its opposite and therefore our task is to identify the tares (the opposite) from the wheat (the true).

So “what you just stubbed your toe on” is really a suggestion of the opposite of the truth that All is Spirit and spiritual, All is Love and harmonious. By accepting the opposite of the truth as true, you experience it.

Again, I know this didn’t completely answer your question and may not have been any help to you, but hey, I tried. 🙂 I continue to think about the same questions you have asked, but as I mentioned in a previous blog comment, I’ve learned not to get so fixated on what I don’t understand that it prevents me from using and benefiting from what I do understand. So I’m at peace not understanding by knowing one day it will all become clear.

      1. Brian.. I really appreciate your comments…they do help… you like to go deep….just want to asure our beautiful family that Maximo thinks this inquiry into Life and Truth is a Joy
and thinks Joy is the Holy child of Love

        Yes …. this is fun…..

    2. The unreality of evil matter and sin is one of the hardest questions people wrestle with. The only way I know to solve the “riddle” is to demonstrate the reality of God, good, and thus prove the unreality of anything which would oppose God.

It is true, suffering seems very real to the human sense while that sense is suffering. But the definition of Truth is that which lasts forever. If you can get rid of something, then it is not truth. Where did the flat earth go? No where. There never was one. But it seemed real to people who believed in it at the time.

The same rule applies to evil and death. Humans believe in death, as if it is a reality. But it isn’t, and they discover it isn’t when they “die.” They don’t die. They are still alive. Truth prevails, error doesn’t.

And people learn the same about disease, that it doesn’t kill them. They still live.

Yes, the material sense of life may die away, but that never was the real to begin with. All reality is in Spirit, in that which is eternal.

As we gain an eternal spiritual sense of Life, we grow out of the limited material sense. It happens in degrees, step by step. And thus we prove the unreality of evil and the reality of God, good.

      Patience has its perfect work.

      1. Evan… thank you so much… the more I have the pleasure of getting to know you the more I see your and our.. all of us…true colors… and they are brilliant and beautiful…

  13. Wow! Right On, Maximo! Good On Ya! And Thanks, Sunshine, for sharing your own, understanding of Divine Science. I’m not There, yet. Having been raised in a C.S. Family where my parents didn’t have a deep understanding of it and who also hadn’t even begun to heal from their own Human Childhoods – it was very confusing, to say the least! I heard things like: “Think in the Absolute, Act in the Relative.” or “You’re not REally Here”, or “There is no such thing as a Human Being”, etc. Not at all what Mrs. Eddy says in Science & Health. No wonder so many young people give up and leave the Religion at an early age. We didn’t get enough of Healing our Human Experience First – before diving into the Science or study of Divine Metaphysics! If you really look at the Chapter, “Christian Science Practice”, you’ll notice that Mrs. Eddy spends the first 5 or 6 pages talking about cultivating a Human Heart of Love, before we can even begin to heal metaphysically. “The poor suffering heart needs its rightful nutriment……a priceless sense of the dear Father’s loving kindness…” “If we would open their prison doors for the sick, we must first learn to bind up the broken-hearted….” She put the preparation of the Human Heart First, before delving into the use of Divine Metaphysics for healing. Discovering this has helped me sooooooo very much. Mrs. Eddy was a very Human, Loving, Practical Woman who recognized that we all need to feel Human Love!

    1. I like many of your points Bev. It is true, we have to understand what it means to love one another, to be kind, thoughtful and affectionate to one another before we’re much ready to understand what it means to be loved by God.

The human experience is where we put our understanding of God into practice. There can’t be a disconnect between what we profess to be true in absolute Truth and what we express toward one another. They should be one and the same. They were with Jesus. He was the most kind, caring person on earth.

    2. Wow! That is so perfect for me today. Thank you so much, Evan, for all that you do. It is greatly appreciated.

    3. Bevi…. your life… your suffering… your realizations of it all, have made you a remarkable woman.. me thinks… a perfect and beautiful creation coming to understand itself…. the emergence of a true healer

  14. Thanks, Brian, for the link to SpiritView 2007! That was very, very, very Helpful! And Thanks, Evan, for taking the time to answer, to the best of your ability,y from your hard-earned spiritual understanding at the time, All those Very Difficult Questions! Your Devotion, Compassion and Kindness are just Beautiful! Thank you for being willing to share what you know of Christian Science with All of Us!

    1. Thanks Bevi! I felt bad after posting that comment with the link to 2007 because I posted it before I noticed Evan had already responded to Maximo and therefore I felt it might be redundant. So thanks for letting me know it was helpful to you. BTW…This SpiritView is a gold mine of great information. Evan’s postings going all the way back to the start are so inspiring and the comments just add additional highlights. I like to go back and read the old blogs whenever I have a chance. Much love to you!

  15. I also want to thank Brian for that link to the 2007 SpiritView. What an amazing dialogue between Anon and Evan. I do have a question that has puzzled be regarding afterlife. Since we have no body before or after that which is called death, how do people recognize those who have gone on before?

    1. Lori… we go to the next cycle with our beliefs still in tact.. including those of body identification
Although as we experience these cycles, our beliefs become more refined closer to Truths reflection…
Suppose at some point our idea of having a body will change completely…. I’m looking forward to needing only a “ball of Light” as my belief of body… and even then I would be recognized by you and we would also laugh in know our work in refining our beliefs is still ongoing…

    2. We have no physical body in Spirit, but we definitely have identity. We have shape, outline, color and form, but it’s spiritual, not material. How wonderful! What a concept to consider. Science and Health mentions a couple of times about the shape, outline and color of spiritual form.

God has individuality, and is expressed in an infinite number of ways. You are one of those ways. You express the infinite individuality of God in your own special unique way.

We have much to learn about this…all of eternity to learn, explore and discover.

      1. Thank you very much Evan for your so loving, inspiring and freeing above explanation. I think you are right, we learn, explore and discover eternally – how full of life that is; am looking forward to that learning.

  16. This is definitely a keeper! My thanks to all of you especially Brian for help in continued study and explanations. I will read this page many times over. I’m so grateful to all of you for all your help. I know CS is true but demonstrating its healing benefits has never been my strong suit. Today so much was put on my plate that I just took a nibble but will return daily to complete my meal.
Thanks Evan as you do advance many of us who truly want to under this Truth but don’t always get it. I have a deep love for all of you.

  17. We have all had a great feast of ideas today.
Thanks to Evan. His contributions stir our thought and we are learning with joy that is how Jesus must have encouraged his dicsiples to think deeply and then put into practice what they were learning.
I am grateful for this sharing of ideas.

  18. I’m a little late on the bus on this. . .
but just an example of putting the truth into practice:
I was holding up a box of very heavy shelves when the box broke open and the shelves slammed down on my toes. I had thick socks on at the time. The pain made me scream so loud neighbors two stories down asked what was wrong. I fled to my room to know the truth, that I was ever a perfect idea in the Mind of my loving Father-Mother, holding all in harmony. I knew that an idea of shelves could not harm an idea of my cute little toes. The pain subsided until it was gone and about twenty minutes later I just went on with my day. I didn’t want to look at my toes at all, so I kept the socks on. My husband predicted I would lose my toenails. No. Not real, not true. No accidents in Mind. The idea of my cute little toes was intact.
The next morning I took off my socks, and the toes weren’t even bruised. They were perfect.

  19. Thank you, Evan, for sharing this inspiration. It is so important for me to cling to this Truth of the perfection of our being – right in the face of seeming evidence to the contrary. It is “meek and bold”. What a great defense!!!

  20. Wow, what a great thread of Ideas and genuine love expressed. Also, what a great healing, Diane. Thanks for sharing.
