Sometimes we don’t think what we do has value or we may have a low opinion of our abilities, but each child of God is important and one loving thought or smile can make a difference. I love the line in one of our hymns “Behold, today hath need of thee”. Thank you to Evan and to all of you who always contribute to these blogs and vlogs. Your comments are always so helpful!
Hmmm… the idea of acting sometimes to me mean pretending, so I looked up “act” on Concord
(the online Concordance to the Writings of Mary Baker Eddy). One ref, here…
“Where shall the gaze rest but in the unsearchable realm of Mind? We must look where we would walk, and we must act as possessing all power from Him in whom we have our being.”
(Page 249 in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures)
We are all absolutely valuable equally. We all have a place and that place is unique. As far as jobs are concerned, we must recognize that the comfort we have is thanks to people who do their job a great job. We have houses, we are clean, we have routes, short lawns, clean drains. All of this gives us comfort. You have to shake the thought of some who do not heat all that. But those who make it possible have their place. Everything is a great gear, and each one of them is essential and useful. Thanks Evan and everyone. Blessings.
Thank you, Evan. “Love one another, Word of revelation.” How very important to the equation of being able to accept, as well as to share.
Very true Linda. How precious the feeling when a longtime worker expressed to me that I was the only supervisor who ever treated him right. I, also, had those feelings over many years of employment. I cherish his speaking those words to me; that is my greatest compliment and honor in this world of human thought. That’s my day that “hath need of thee.”
We are all the expression of that one Mind, that one Spirit which is the entirety of being eternally existent. Each of us is that individual expression of that one bring to that wholeness with our expression of that Spiritual quality and so together we are complete, lacking for nothing and at the same time united in the only good possible, Divine Love the Truth in expression of a whole self existent being, God, good.
“Is not man metaphysically and mathematically number one, a unit, and therefore whole number, governed and protected by his divine Principle, God?You have simply to preserve a scientific, positive sense of unity with your divine source, and daily demonstrate this. Then you will find that one is as important a factor as duodecillions in being and doing right…” Pulp.4
For years I have bought coke cans in a 6 pack, held together with plastic rings. After seeing on TV once that birds and other animals can get stuck in them, I always cut them before throwing them out. At times I wonder if it’s worth it; but if it saves one bird or other animal of course it is. We don’t always see the result of our good work, it’s the motive that counts!
Thanks to all of you who chimed in this morning as do so many each day–me only infrequently. As I am now a “white-haired, oldl lady and retired and living alone, I have a hard time feeling I do anything that’s valued any longer. This day hath need of me? Oh, what a great thought to greet me!
My Mom used to like the idea that when we say “I am” about ourselves, we can check whether what we are about to say would also be true of God, the great I AM, whom we reflect. As God’s spiritual idea hair colour is no more than an outward sign of inward experience- spiritual experience begins with the first day of creation and is ever unfolding. God’s being is expressed in our being in new forms, and our work is expressing the great I Am- when we no longer go out to a day job, we can continue to work for, and with, God and affirm and build on our understanding of God’s ever-presence, which we cannot be left out of or separated from. In reaching out within this forum, there is a form of togetherness expressed, within “one stupendous whole”, each of us finding, as Mrs. Eddy wrote, our own “niche in time and eternity”. Use a concordance to explore how she uses the term “compound idea” in her writings- including the answer to the questions “what is substance?” and “what is man?” in the chapter on Recapitulation in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. That compound idea we are included in is Divine Mind’s knowing, and includes all right ideas, now.
Every time we express love, kindness, share an up lifting thought, help a friend, share a smile, give a friend a helping hand, pray for our family, friends, community and beyond we are making a difference.
Dear Judith– let your day be full of these expressions. Find new ways to share them. Do not despair– you are a valued & unique expression of your Father-Mother God and the world has need of you… Remember Jesus shared this thought in Matthew: “Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.” [Matt 10:29-31]
Have a soaring beautiful day everyone!! You each make a difference!
Oh my! Thank YOU, Sue, for your kind, supportive thoughtful encouraging words–to me?! This might be the first time I ever returned to re-read a day’s Spiritview AND posts within the same hour. And to see that someone thought OF me….. is THE best way to start my day
Oh, Dear Judith, You ARE valuable, just in your Being a precious member of God’s Universal Family! I know, retired persons sometimes feel they don’t have as much to offer or share any more, but what you just humbly shared IS an expression of Love and that in itself has probably helped many people who feel the same way. I used to do gardening for customers (some of whom didn’t really appreciate what I did), but now I have time to spend on my own gardens and have had people stop as they pass by on the road and say they enjoy the ever-changing flowers and always look over on their way to work and it makes them smile. Sometimes what we think are just simple expressions of Love are not so insignificant, but valued more than we might think.
Sue, as loyal Christian Scientists we have enlisted to lessen sin, disease, and death (thank you, Mary Baker Eddy). How do we do this? We do it in daily quiet prayer, in our mental closets, without fanfare (as Christ Jesus advised). Your contribution to this effort of transforming world thought to a spiritual basis is absolutely important! You are only retired from a job, you are certainly not retired from contributing to mankind with your prayerful work. May I offer a suggestion? Find one spiritually minded friend and form a prayer team: each day “meet” online or on the phone and decide on a topic to pray about that day! Then share your spiritual work with each other later in the day. The world needs us to be better healers and pray-ers. Right where we are! You are in a special time in your life to do that! Keep us posted on your work!
Much love….
Dear Judith,
I am in the same classification as you and have felt at times that I have nothing to give or contribute. So why am I still here? To give love and joy to everyone I meet; to share my spiritual inspirations which may be fresh and helpful to someone; and to be a companion to my daughter who is also retired and a widow. Each day I start with “this is the day the Lord hath made, be glad, give thanks, rejoice.”
Dear Judith, Lori, & others who feel alone: A dear friend once shared this with me—alone = All one. We are all one in our dear Father-Mother God in whom we have our being. Our love, our joy, our wisdom, our intelligence and everything we can share with others comes from Him. He is the source of our joy, our life, and our life is eternal because it reflects Him. Time cannot affect us as that pure reflection of God. We have all eternity to bless others, and we live in eternity right now! Love & hugs to you.
I`d like to tell you something in connection with CS what I read somewhere.
The author said as far as I remember: if I am cleaning the floor in Timbuctu or in New York or in London or in Paris or in Hamburg or whereever. The important thing is, I do it with joy, knowing that I am inseparable one with my Father-Mother-God expressing Him. Then it does not matter what I am doing, then it makes a difference, what I am doing.
I think this is a nice utterance relevant to today`s SpiritView.
Thank you Evan, that you gave us the opportunity to think about this theme in scientific ways!
And thank you all commenters for your loving and inspiring and helpful comments 🙂
As always Evan , thank you for this “thinker.” Judith and Lori, I too (in my 80s) live alone – and have for 32 years. 15 of those years I was still working in northern CA; the last 17 have been here in WA state. I am grateful to have never felt alone and know I am about my Father’s work all day and he is with me always.
Why am I still here? To give love and joy to everyone I meet; to share my spiritual inspirations; and to be a loving mother (to 4 sons), grandmother (to 12), and great-grandmother (2), in 4 states. In touch with all except two littlest ones – thank heaven for smartphones!! Pictures fun to get.
Daphne, thank you for your beautiful, uplifting comments.
Many people grow up with a Mom who did all the house tasks. They grow up, get a job and a diligent wife. Some think only those like them or better are worth even noticing, or speaking to, or considering as a person who might have value.
I have cleaned toilets in offices, moved furniture, cleaned up other peoples messes. I have been totally snubbed by self important people. I have seen blacks and Mexicans I have worked with insulted. Very educational.
With my two university degrees, my own company, and employees at every level in every office, I always kept those lessons in mind. Everyone is equal under God.
On my street, the local village garbage truck goes by every week. I wave to the guys every time. I am grateful they are doing that job.
There is something anyone can do to make this world better.

Thank you Evan, and all. This is all very inspiring and helpful!
Any sense of lack or purpose is mortal mind talking and the idea of separation from all that truly is. thank you for the reminder.
