Jesus knew that the Father had given him authority over everything and that he had come from God and would return to God. So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him.
Jesus replied, “Unless I wash you, you won’t belong to me.”
After washing their feet, he put on his robe again and sat down and asked, “Do you understand what I was doing? You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and you are right, because that’s what I am. And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done to you.” (New Living Translation)
What a delight to see that you’ve posted this clip this morning. I’m having lunch with Jeani today – along with the producer of the video – to take a deeper look at services for the homeless in Salem. God is indeed preparing the way!
such LOVE!!
Evan, this is just amazing and wonderful. It is so special, too, to know that “timeforthinkers.com” had posted it.
A few years ago, when we attended Bible Study Seminars at Asilomar, CA, the director of the seminar (at the closing of the session) offered to wash everyone’s feet. It was one of the most touching experiences, filled with tenderness, love, support and prayer for each and every one. I, for one, have never been the same since that experience, and, although I have not actually washed another’s feet, I have certainly learned much more compassion, forgiveness, patience and love.SAS
I first viewed this at Time4Thinkers/Radical Acts and now you posted it here. I think I will have to post it too in my FB because I believe washing one another’s feet is Great!
Thanks Evan for the reminder. This act must be endless!
Everyone who loves this video should check out the ecumenical online community inspired by it, called Radical Acts. http://time4thinkers.com/about-radical-acts/ Site visitors (thousands of them)are supporting one another in living Jesus’ most challenging teachings. Wonderful stories, and wonderful music too!
I wonder if for a brief period that maybe reading rooms may lend a proram, something along these lines, especially during this Holiday Season!
A seldom concern for many; and a vanishing practice at the Free-Will Baptist church.
Washing should be only for the purpose of keeping the body clean it says in Science and Health.. CS nurses wash feet, mothers wash feet, other caretakers wash feet. The Pope washes feet once a year ( I strongly suspect that they have been previously washed).
Christian Science practitioners lift the idea to a non-physical level-purifying the under-standing.
Shall we teach our children Science or start a new fad of copycat emotionalism?
