What are your expectations?

“We tend to live up to our expectations.”

~ Earl Nightingale

What are your expectations for tomorrow, next year, your children, your health, your life? Expectations often outline the path we walk down. Be sure to form healthy and good ones!

  1. my expectation is to understand God better and clearer!
And a result of a better understanding of God as Spirit and Love, we can understand us as his healthy spiritual image and likeness better.

  2. I expect Peace on Earth, I expect the Goodness of God to prevail in all Governments around the World, I expect Health and Happiness to be the Divine Right of Everyone, and I expect to witness Divine Love encircling the globe! Happy Expectations to All!

  3. I was just talking to someone a few days ago and they mentioned that their father “expected” his three girls to attend college. It was at a time when it was not common for girls to go. All three got their college degrees. She mentioned something else he “expected” them to do and they did it! It struck me at the time that it must have been his “expectation” that motivated them. And I’m sure there was love behind that desire too.

  4. Thanks Evan for these ideas on expectation and thanks everyone for your comments.

Back when I was in college I attended a church where the first reader during the “Notices” time of each service would tell about what times the Sun/Wed services were held, that the church had a reading room, etc. During these comments the reader would refer to the reading room as a “quiet, healing sanctuary”.

One summer I planned to work at a job I had pre-arranged before the semester ended. But by the time I was to start work I was laid off due to the company downsizing. I was paying my own way for college so I really needed this job. I tried for a few weeks to find other jobs but without success. So one day I decided to go to the reading room to pray. I figured one doesn’t go to a bird sanctuary without expecting to see a bird, so on my way to the “quiet, healing sanctuary” I had a definite expectation that my job situation could be resolved through prayer. And sure enough, within a week I had people calling me to ask if I was available to work for them (these were people I had worked for in the past but had not spoken to for months and a relative that needed help in his business).

We can have that same expectation that prayer will reveal solutions to our problems when praying anywhere (i.e. we don’t need to wait to visit a reading room to expect healing as Pat pointed out earlier). But reading rooms are nice places to pray too.

  5. Thank you Evan for this simple, thought provoking question. UTA and Bevi say it all for me, except I would add that I expect the Goodness of God to prevail in all families around the World.

  6. Expectation is a powerful thought, and certainly it supports our choice of direction and impetus. This is put forth in a small book called “As a Man Thinketh.” To me it has also been important to strive for the understanding that God’s provision of good for us, being infinite, is greater than whatever expectations we have and whatever limitations we may feel apply to our lives. Opening thought and listening for God’s ideas and inspiration has taken me beyond what I had expected in numerous situations. God’s love for us is unlimited.
