What is your guiding light?

What is your guiding light in life? Everyone needs one.

If you don’t have a strong sense of where you’re headed it’s easy to get lost on the way. Decisions are hard to make. Routes are hard to choose. Purpose and worth feel elusive. With no sense of direction, where to go and what to do next with your life can remain large question marks.

Like a hiker lost in the jungle wandering in circles because he has no compass, a lot of effort and resources can be wasted when no clear sense of direction is guiding one’s feet. Poor chances are taken, bad risks are ventured, dead ends are pursued, and apathy may even take over.

So, if you’re feeling a bit lost right now, not sure what to do next or where to go, step back from the clamor and ask a bigger question, “What is my guiding light? Where am I headed in the long run?” Once you get that figured out, the short term decision-making gets much simpler. Decisions are then made that get you fastest to your ultimate destination.

“Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” John 8:12

  1. Evan – thank you so much for this post! I have definitely been in “search mode” for a short while now. I’m going from one stage of my life to the next — little kids are going to be in school full time soon. I’ve let go of so many hobbies and interests since becoming a parent. And now I’m starting to search … trying to find my interests … finding a new sense of harmony. This post helps me — I know I have my Pastor books – and I have a great love of God, Christ, and my neighbor as myself – learning to do this better every day. 🙂 I guess I’m going in the right direction; and we’ll see where I get to! 🙂
