What you think matters

“You and I are not what we eat; we are what we think.”

~ Walter Anderson

And in truth, we are what God has formed us to be, made in the divine image—an image formed by what God thinks and knows.

Think on spiritual reality and let the love and truth of God form and shape your experience. The outcome will be beautiful.

  1. Hi, Evan,
I’ve just begun my work as a Christian Science Nurse..
I am enjoying the privilege of seeing the effects of letting the love & truth of God form & shape my experience in the nursing wing… and witnessing progress every day! Thank you!

  2. Starting each day with the daily lesson sermon. Unreality this morning. Purifying thought before the challenging day. “What you think, matters”. Keeping my mind full of Truth and Love.
Uplifting my consciousness to the contemplation of something better than mortality.

Found recently singing to a patient in a hospital gives her a relaxing rest. A look of confidence and peace comes over her. Softly, sweetly as I might sing, the poems of our leader to her as a mother lullaby’s her baby. Holding her in my spiritual arms and rocking her gently with much lovingkindness.
A feeling of God’s presence comes over the patient room. “I know that where I stand is holy ground”.
Although the strict reliance on the medical field is there, the poems by our dear leader bridge over the entire situation. Pitiful patience for the poor sufferer fills my consciousness along with the confidence that all is well.

Three visits have been made. First the patient was sung “Feed My Sheep”. She wasn’t supposed to hear anything at all. Hooked up to all the gadgets of “life support” and under sedation.

Next day still under the influence of sedation, but starting to exhibit some consciousness, I asked her if she remembered my song. She gestured yes. And when asked if she would like me to sing again, she again gestured yes. “Mother’s Evening Prayer” was sung over her and the same rest was seen as before.

Last evening she was conscious. Her voice was faint, but I managed to receive a smile.
Sang “Savior” at her asking. She’s in God’s care, Not supposed to interfere with the medical process in progress. So I’m going to exhibit more by seeing what we are taught to see and to express what we are taught to express. Finding proof that “what we think matters”.

I’m sure that the whole hospital is feeling that same restful influence. This Lovingkindness has no boundaries.

That still small voice of Truth really directs our thought. Innocence listens to it naturally. Material sense is an education to be overcome. To look beyond it’s claim of mortality is a gift.
A gift worth sharing in some humble way, as a lullaby.

Thank you for this platform of discussion and enlightened thoughts of all of the comments presented.

    1. Thanks so much for sharing this precious, holy experience. I yearn to help those who cling to medical views experience the healing love of Christ… divine Truth and Love… and you point the way.

    2. Thank you for sharing this inspiring experience with others. Imagine the peace felt by all surrounding this situation by keeping Truth in Love uppermost in thought! I loved the sentence, “To look beyond its claim of mortality is a gift”. A gift for sharing for sure!

  4. Thank you Evan, Bonnie and David. I always study my lesson before going to Spiritview, but didn’t
this morning. Wow! Such enlightenment with Spiritview today. I have been sung too. What a wonderful way to start the day.

  5. Hi SpiritView friends! Here in Germany is a national holiday, namely the reuniting of East and West Germany. About 30 years ago the long mural between East- and West Berlin fell, and not only in Berlin but in the whole country.
Mental murals can fall through our earnest prayers, so that God’s spiritual healing thoughts can reach all of God’s loved children.
There is one supreme God, one divine Mind which we express naturally as image and likeness of our Father-Mother God, so that we actually always can be aware of God’s comforting and healing thoughts. We just must listen in our prayers in order to demonstrate the Truth as Jesus and Mrs. Eddy did.
Am grateful for your wonderfully blessing and comforting Blog – thank you very much Evan!
Dear commenters, thank you so much for your inspiring posts! 🙂

    1. Dear Uta,
How we rejoiced when that wall came down uniting East and West Germany. (I think you meant to use the word “wall” rather than “mural”.) The Interpreter’s Bible says, referring to the fall of the wall around Jericho (Joshua 6): “There are no impregnable walls before the onward march of divine purpose.” And that can also pertain to David’s wonderful singing to his friend in the hospital.

  6. We are what we think, unless of course we think we are evil, which we are not and cannot be. Thank you David for such a wonderful sharing of how Christian Science works in even the most dire situations.

  7. Dear Uta,
After visiting the wall many years ago, going through Checkpoint Charlie to East Berlin with my daughter, and reading much about the difficult situations Christian Scientists had during that time of division, I greatly rejoiced in seeing it come down and the people pouring in from East to West. I share your celebration of this monumental event.

    1. yes, thanks Lori; and I watched that great happening at TV at that time and nearly cried with joy. It was overwhelming.
God is governing His universe lovingly and safely in every instant.

      1. I was attending the Junior Chamber International World Conference in Birmingham, England, when the Lady President stopped the proceedings and announced to the multi national audience that the Berlin Wall had been taken down. The packed hall erupted with applause and shared joy! It was a magic moment of shared “belonging”.

  8. Such wonderful helps today . We have had our first
snowfall which seems to restrict movement quite
abit. Thoughts are things that keep us alert .Thanks for
your blog,Evan and the assurance that no matter where
    we are God is there.

  9. Congratulations Uta on the anniversary of the fall of the wall in Germany. There are so many more to remove, but God’s love cannot be encased by any wall, anytime, anywhere. Thank God!
I had the joy of thanking and hugging two gentlemen in the supermarket yesterday, one fought in Vietnam, the other in WWII. They were surprised and pleased, and responded with love. I have so much gratitude within me for Christian Science, sometimes it just bubbles out,…..

    1. thanks Ellen, it was God who freed His folk 29 years ago from false bondage. And God will do that again and again with all His folk!

  10. Watch your thoughts; they become words.
Watch your words; they become actions.
Watch your actions; they become habits.
Watch your habits; they become character.
Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.
