What’s your goal?

November 10, 2011 | 13 comments

So, what’s your goal today?  No, honestly, why did you get out of bed this morning?
Is it to get through another day? That’s not very inspiring…
Is it to earn more money? There has to be a loftier reason than that…
Is it because you got out of bed yesterday and you’re in a mindless routine? That’s not very thoughtful…
People have different reasons for doing different things, but there is always a reason, even if it’s not a very good one.
What’s your reason for welcoming another day?
I look forward to helping people. I love receiving their requests for spiritual help, turning to God in prayer for a solution, and blessing the requester with what I see.
I love supporting my family. It brings me great joy to see them prosper and flourish.
I love being with my wife and sharing life’s joys with her.
I love watching my children grow up and discover more of God’s goodness to express and experience.
I love life, basically. I love to be, to express the joy I find in knowing God, to feel the love of God in everything I do, and hopefully add a bit more light to the lives of people around me.
And this is my goal, to keep the momentum going. To live in the now of God’s good, to accept more of it, and to live true to it.
Spiritual goals get me inspired and keep me that way.
I still have to earn a living, pay the bills, run errands, cook meals, do the dishes, and get the oil changed in my car, but it’s a whole lot easier and more enjoyable to do when I have overriding spiritual aspirations to keep my thought up high along the way.
What’s your goal today?

  1. Oh my, Evan.

Just a minute before I saw this provocative post in the wee morning hours, I was thinking about how I resist with all my might the “general belief” (see page 155 of Science and Health) that humans and nonhumans are economic units, valuable only in terms of the amount of money they earn (for themselves or for another). The erroneous notion that we can be “bought and paid for” seems to be plaguing humanity today.

The truth is that God’s man, including God’s creature (the beautiful rooster in the photo accompanying your blog, for example), is whole, undivided and wholly spiritual, not made of divisible matter. No one is a mere commodity; no one can be commodified.

We are NOT worth our weight in gold. We are NOT here to be “used” for another’s selfish gain. We are here to glorify Life by living and respecting every other living being. To glorify Love by loving and admiring every other loving being. To glorify Truth by being truthful and valuing every other truthful being.

This is precisely what I LOVE to do: free man from the “general belief” that humans and nonhumans are biological beings who in some relationships are violated prey, in other relationships violent predators, and in all relationships mere economic pawns.

    No! Not true!

I LOVE to help my fellow-beings realize that we are each uniquely perfect, inviolable individuals — not vying with one another in a dog-eat-dog world, not caught in a “life-and-death cycle,” but united in the endless, harmonious circle of deathless Life.

I LOVE to help my brothers and sisters glimpse that each human and nonhuman is given, by our mutual Maker, Spirit, a high-and-mighty and unselfish purpose.

I LOVE to know, feel, preach* and prove that we are each useful and un-use-able (that is, unexploitable), each harmless and un-harm-able, each nondestructive and non-destroy-able.

Bless you for giving me opportunity to share with you and your readers my holy grail — I mean my holy goal. 🙂

  2. Evan, this is wonderful and so are your first blogger’s comments. Seems sometimes that what I’m doing is so mundane…so much of my day taken up with necessary but uninspiring activities. But wait! When the spiritual element is introduced one realizes that every moment we are expressing the love of God, even in the little details of our life. This is a radical turn of thought for me. Awesome stuff! Thank you!

  3. “You got it goin’ on,” Evan!! Sweet man ~~ you are so
loved and appreciated on this planet, and no doubt
    in God’s eyes, too!

Now, the subject: why get out of bed?
Man, God’s shining ray of Light, is never in “bed,”
unconscious, dreaming away the hours! Right?
This is what CS is teaching us “humans” to realize.
The facts of Being. The belief that we are sort-of-God’s man-ifestation, hence hue-man, is at the base
of our hue-man problems, huh. So, thanks, Evan, for your work in lifting human consciousness to the
realization of the Facts! We’re “getting there,” because… WE ARE THERE! Amazing and wonderful
    Truth!!

    Thanks to Fellow-Commenters, too.

  4. actually I resist getting up! Have been unemployed for over 1.5 yr. And have a hard time with each day. The Lesson is always a good focus. Any suggestions?

  5. That’s such a great reminder. I’ve found lately that one of the nicest ways to wake up and anticipate the day is to ask how I can serve that day – perhaps through volunteering, helping a neighbor, doing my part in a committee, but when serving is the m. o. everything seems less selfed and more peaceful. Thanks for all of your wonderful morning wake-up blogs.

  6. I recently read a quote from a guy named Wilbert Rideau who spent several decades in a Louisiana prison wrongly convicted and incarcerated. When he was set free and wrote a book about his experiences. I love this quote from him: “I wake up in heaven every day. “I rise early because I don’t want to miss a thing.” This says it all. Every second is precious. Remember, God is the love that will not let you go. Ahhhh.

  7. Oh, this is truly wonderful. It’s all about giving, isn’t it. Just being the Christ-man! Thanks so much, Evan. Thanks to all who comment, sharing their own inspiration.

  8. The roosters waken me slowly. No alarm clock. When I first moved to the country, I disliked their early morning noise. Now I get up to feed the chickens and the peacock, and the dog. Soon they do something funny, and I’m smiling and talking to them, and on to the next chore of the day. And time to study CS and appreciate what the animals and birds add to our lives.
Depression keeps us from wanting to get up, or the loss of our past routines. We are being forced to discover something new (to us) and better.

  9. To anon above who doesn’t like to get up in the morning…Resist that temptation! It’s likely a dull sleepy state of thought that works against success and prosperity in your life. We demonstrate success through “up and doing,” whether it’s quiet diligent prayer that gets our thinking squared away for a productive day, or following through with the profitable ideas God’s sends us when we’re listening and actively seeking them.

  10. Thank you. I expect I will read this message from you and responders repeatedly to absorb the spiritual momentum and live the joy expressed. With gratitude and love,
