You have time to pray

January 7, 2016 | 18 comments

A woman feeling under great pressure detailed all the activities she had to accomplish each day and ended with, “By the end of the day I’m so exhausted, I have no energy to pray.”

This type of conclusion is a wake-up call! We always have time to pray. It’s all a matter of priorities. We do what we believe to be the most important thing to do.

If we choose to do the laundry first, eat first, run errands first, and mow the lawn first, this is because we believe these activities are more important than nurturing our spirituality. But this is illusion!

Seeking out God and living in mental and spiritual harmony is far more important than the endless list of tasks mortal mind will constantly be coming up with.

Yes, we have certain jobs we need to do. But they can be done with grace, poise, and profound peace of mind. And they will be if we stay in touch with God.

So, be fair to yourself. Make room and space for what is most important. Love yourself and take time out to be quiet with God and pray. The rest of your day will flow far smoother, and you’ll end the day inspired and happy rather than feeling run-down and defeated.

You always have time for the most important things. Just be sure to remember what the most important things are!

Happy day

  1. Thank you Evan. Cannot agree more and love this reminder. Thank you for such uplifting, spiritual Views.
    Have a great year

  2. Yes of course as Evan so correctly puts it, God will beautifully take care, manage our day and everything will go super smoothly, if we give the first place to God in our life, pray to Him in quiet and listen to the angel messages He gives us. I have experienced this blessing many a times when I have given the first place to God, prayed the first thing in the morning, in spite of a big “To Do” list. All the jobs were completed like magic, so smoothly, so effortlessly, so harmoniously. And surprisingly, after finishing all that I needed to do, I had extra time on hand for myself. That’s the blessing for making first place for God in your day.
Thanks so very much Evan for this lovely reminder. I need to be more consistent in giving first place to God and start my day with my communion with God in prayer.

  3. Thanks Evan, and I agree with Nergish wholeheartedly!

Everyday I get up, start with prayer and study the lesson, and the whole rest of the day falls into place. As Nergish said, listening to those angel messages are so important and fun also, as everything runs harmoniously and worry will leave you as divine Mind is in control of all persons, places, and things. I have definitely had challenges along the way but God has always provided a way out, even when situations look like there are no solutions. Pray, and listen for direction and it will come!

  4. Sometimes we are wakened by the “news” . I came to the point where I realized that the real “news” I needed to listen to was in the Christian Science Bible Lesson. That’s God’s broadcast to the world of His/her [Love’s] all-powerful presence, substance, intelligence. It’s the news that brings that authority of Christ-understanding, dissolving physical evidence of chaos, all these things we are somehow tasked to fix, to the unshakeable order underlying all existence, to bear witness to and bring to light. This brings a really productive day!

  5. QUOTE OF
    THE DAY
“It is not enough to be busy; so are the ants. The question is: What are we busy about?”
    Henry David Thoreau

This came up on the Forbes site today.

Thank you Evan for the post!

  6. Loved your article! Thank you always for your inspiration. So true….put God first in all we do and we can expect that God will direct our every thought and action.

  7. Thank you Evan. I remember a prior post about being busy. I have always thought of myself as a ‘morning person’ because my energy seems to be better in the morning. I get a lot done that I am too tired to do when I come home from work or at the end of the day. My work frenzy does get a lot of little loose ends done but often it leaves no time for prayer. I think a lot of this frenzy was mortal mind. By scheduling prayer and reading and the lesson every morning before anything else is done works. I have to deal with the suggestions to do otherwise but I know ‘who’ is talking and it is not God.

  8. I remember telling a practitioner that I didn’t have time to pray when I was teaching full time as well as being a wife and mother of two children -a pre schooler and a baby. The biggest problem I was having was exhaustion! Her reply was gentle but insistant that it would be a great help to me if I could dedicate even a small portion of my day to prayer. I gave in and got up 30 min. Early each day to study the C.S lesson. What a difference! It became my rock to cling to. I couldn’t have made it through those years without it! I started with one section of the lesson but was so inspired I quickly began reading all of the lesson. It’s our spiritual nourishment ! I have increased that time in the morning greatly and I cherish it!

  9. All life can be a form of prayer. If we listen, open up to the spirit of love, our daily list of things to do will come to us naturally. If we follow that guidance within the principle of truth, our lives will be that prayer action.

  10. We can look at “work’ as “work” or see it as Worship…to continuously Glorify God!
thank you Evan for helping each of us reach a little bit higher in seeing GOD as LIFE, TRUTH, LOVE and JOY!

  11. We all have time when we awake to go to the bathroom, take a shower, brush our teeth, and etc. Why not have the attitude to brush our mentality of all the garbage of materiality. When I began to practice this attitude, my day has become more successful. Make it your business to brush the cobwebs of mortal thought away as you do by brushing your teeth in the morning and you will see plenty of progress. WE ALL HAVE TIME TO PRAY LIKE WE HAVE WHEN WE CLEAN OUR BODIES IN THE MORNING.

  12. Thank you for this important reminder to put God first! A recent movie titled, “War Room” is a delightful story of the importance of prayer. I highly recommend it! I love the idea of being dedicated to having a “prayer strategy”. In other words, turning over all material planning to God and getting still to listen for His direction…..every day.

  13. Always start my day with God and studying the lesson – easy to do now that I am retired. Raising 4 active boys and working full-time found it more of a “struggle” to get the full lesson in before work. I had pieces taped to the bathroom mirror and hanging from kitchen cabinet – but I did always start my day with God. Could not have accomplished all I did back then and now without His guidance and protection. “Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need.”
