Prayer for Safe Air Travel

July 30, 2014 | 15 comments

With a spate of recent airplane disasters, many travelers wonder if it’s safe to fly? The mysterious loss of an aircraft flying northwest of Australia, the Malaysian passenger jet shot out of the sky by a missile, and an aircraft with 116 people in it lost over Mali make people wonder, “What’s going on?”

Some deeper aviation insights for preventing these from happening in the future are needed, but more than anything, metaphysicians need to jump in now and reverse the pattern before another plane is lost.

We live in a world of thought. When something is going wrong in this world of thought, it can be changed and improved with spiritual truth.

As an active traveler, one of the truths I am “flying” with is an understanding that I do not travel in a world of chance and uncontrolled malice toward others. I travel in an atmosphere of divine Mind where God is in control of everything that happens to me en route. This Mind is Love, and Love watches out for me and every passenger. Love has eyes everywhere. Love has ears everywhere. Love knows everything and causes events to work together for the safety and protection of all. God knows what to do to keep me safe while traveling, and is busy doing it. This truth governs the airplane I fly in, the airports I walk through, all the flight staff involved and every person in the world that might have any connection whatsoever with any flight I take. Love has me covered in all ways.

And these rules apply to all travelers. Everyone is traveling in space occupied by divine Love. There is no chance, no accident, no fulfilled evil desire, no evil plan, nor follow through of evil intent in the Mind of Love. Love thwarts, foils and prevents all wrong. Evil can’t even be conceived. It has no right and no place, no space and no target. It is not. Love is all, and we all travel in its constant care and protection.

What are your prayers for air safety?

  1. Ps 139:8 If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there.

Is 58:14 Then shalt thou delight thyself in the Lord; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.

    …fly on eagle’s wings…

Job 30:22 (partial) Thou liftest me up to the wind; thou causest me to ride upon it,

Ps 189: 1; Ps 148:1 Praise ye the Lord from the heavens, praise him in the heights…

    Amos 4:13 …he createth the wind…

*open firmament of heaven* Gen 1:20

II Sam 22:11 And he rode upon a cherub, and did fly: and he was seen upon the wings of the wind.

Ps 18:10 And he rode upon a cherub, and did fly: yea, he did fly upon the wings of the wind.

Ps 104:3 Who layeth the beams of his chambers in the waters: who maketh the clouds his chariot: who walketh upon the wings of the wind:

  2. Wonderful protecting ideas to contemplate here, Evan. Thank you.” Everlasting arms of Love, are beneath, around, above.” (Christian Science Hymnal)” Allied to the deific power, all good will aid your journey.” (Mary Baker Eddy). Karin, thanks so much for the Bible quotes. I love Ps 18:10. “And he rode upon a cherub, and did fly: yea, he did fly upon the wings of the wind.” As a constant traveler,I am truly grateful for these fortifying truths.

  3. I, too, am a frequent flyer and hymn 53 is where I start in my travel prayers. “Everlasting Arms of Love are beneath, around, above…”
I love that Gods arms are, not maybe, “beneath, around, above.” Then I pray knowing that we are never governed by chance but by Gods unerring direction (pg. 424 S&H) And that “No mortal mind has the might or right or wisdom to create or to destroy. All is under the control of the One Mind, even God.” (Pg. 544 S&H)
I keep my hymnal with me at all times and at different points during a flight just open it at random to see what ideas God has in store for me to pray with.

  4. Evan, thank you for this valuable treatment, and thanks to the responders for the most helpful citations. When stepping from the walkway onto a plane, I always mentally declare what my CS teacher said: “I am not in this plane. This plane is in me…in my consciousness.” Then as I get settled, I claim the peace, harmony, safety that fill Divine Consciousness always and in all ways. Joyous travels to all in knowing we’re always in our right place!

  5. I have to be truthful. Even though I flew 4 times in a plane, I am still fearful. I am bed bound now but I could use the thoughts written here to use for prayer for others.

  6. Many years ago I had trepidation about a particular flight I was soon to take. A practitioner shared with me that I/we don’t move from one place to another; the experience just enters our consciousness, and that consciousness is only filled with God’s Love and protection. That resolved my hesitation, and has ever since when I fly, enter a car to drive somewhere, ride a bus, etc.

Thank you, Evan, for reminding us to include air safety for all in our prayers!

  7. Evan thank you for sharing your prayers for travel, and to the responders for their insights. Everlasting arms of Love are beneath, around, above for me and all has always been my declaration no matter the means of transportation, but today I have gleaned much more. Seeker and Verlee, thank you for your comments. This blog is like going to school! You get your lesson to study every day of the week and have an opportunity to hear from other students. We never stop learning and putting into practice what we learn. Thank you all.

  8. All of Hymn 136 in the CS Hymnal, words by Violet Hay – “I love Thy way of freedom, Lord”… “In thy clear light of Truth I rise”… “I hear Thy promise old and new, That bids all fear to cease”… “Though human will and woe would check my upward-soaring way, All unafraid I wait, The while Thy angels bring release”… “I climb, with joy, the heights of Mind, to soar o’er time and space”… “Till time and space and fear are naught my quest shall never cease, Thy presence ever goes with me and Thou dost give me peace.”

  9. Thank you Evan and all for these wonderful ideas. When I was a new student in Christian Science and taking my first flight , I was very fearful and so called a practitioner for help.
She said to me “we never step into matter.” I didn’t really understand what she meant at the time but I was healed of fear and have not forgotten that. One thing that is always my focus as we sore into the sky is seeing the face of God in the beauty of His creation. The sun beams in the clouds or the beauty of the formation of the clouds, the bright blue sky as you break out of the clouds, sometimes the beauty of the sunset or sunrise, all God’s creation untouched, unchanged and under His government and control. Seeing God’s beautiful universe also includes the pilots, crew and passengers, Mind’s creation. Hymn 53, “Everlasting arms of Love are beneath, around, above;” is also a favorite of mine. Thinking also about the airports, one thing that has helped me is knowing the Christ was ever present telling each worker what they need to know at all times. Pg 91 in S&H is one of my favorites. “The Revelator tells us of “a new heaven and new earth.” Have you ever pictured this heaven and earth, inhabited by beings under the control of supreme wisdom?” I love contemplating this idea and also the ideas expressed by all here. Thanks

  10. This is right on track for us students in preparing for our flights to and from our class meeting August. Bravo!

  11. Thank you Evan, for asking us to share our prayers for the world on this topic of safe air travel.
Love surrounds, protects, guides, cleanses, arms, chastens, purifies, and enriches all of its vast creation. Love is the only power, the only presence, the all-knowing, all-acting, all-wise. Always. Now and then: past, present, future.
Evil is no thing, no mind, no power. Just as negative numbers simply show the absence of something, so the concept of evil is a mere negation, in theory, of what is real and true. Evil therefore has no mind, no intelligence, no authority, and can’t manipulate, destroy, or make afraid. We are in the arms of Love and can’t be separated from Love’s protection and grace.
Love dissolves self-justification, self-will. Love solves disputes equitably. Love cares for everyone and all its creation. I can’t be mesmerized to believe anything that tries to hide this fact. Nor can you or anyone. Love is the only power and is providing the tools which ensure safety in the air and everywhere.

  12. Wonderful ideas shared whether we are traveling or just going about our normal day.
We can rest in the All Knowing as being in control, guarding and guiding every step of the way. We don’t even need to ask God because He knows All and He is in control.
