The One Body

October 20, 2014 | 14 comments

There is glorious metaphysical and physical freedom to be obtained in understanding that there is one body, one Spirit, one God.

As Paul wrote, “There is one body and one Spirit…” Eph., 4:4, NKJV.

As first glance, this statement makes no sense. From a population point of view, there are billions of bodies on the globe, and you probably strongly identify with one of them. But in Spirit, there is a different point of view.

In Spirit, man is reflection. Man is not a god unto himself with an identity apart from God. Man reflects the qualities, features, and individuality of God. Man is united as one in the body of Christ.

As an image in the mirror is the effect of the original standing in front of the mirror, man is the effect of God. Man reflects the identity of God. And the form of God is not physical, finite, or temporal. It’s an eternal, infinite Spirit with no bounds or limits.

The form of Spirit is perfect. It is not flawed, deficient, shortchanged, lacking, sick, ill or in pain.

The identity of Spirit is pure harmony. It is on-going good and permanent peace.

The individuality of Spirit is filled with grace, poise and balance. It is not awkward, self-entwined, or constrained.

Spirit is intelligent, able and capable.

Everything true about Spirit is true about you as a reflection of Spirit. Spirit’s qualities constitute your “body,” or being, made in the likeness of God. It is Christ manifest through you.

So, if God doesn’t have it, neither do you.

God does not have a lacking body. God is a full and complete manifestation of Truth. And so are you.

Mary Baker Eddy wrote, “When you say, “Man’s body is material,” I say with Paul: Be “willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.” Give up your material belief of mind in matter, and have but one Mind, even God; for this Mind forms its own likeness.” Science and Health, p. 216.

For ever-increasing physical freedom, identify less with matter and more with Mind’s likeness. In the divine likeness, there are no bodily constraints. Only glorious spiritual freedom in Christ!

  1. Good morning, Evan !

I loved the idea of having no bodily constraints but the glorious spiritual freedom in Christ !
    Thank you,
    Solange

  2. Thanks Evan for the lovely upliftment. Yes ofcourse if we understand our true spiritual identity that is a reflection of God, then nothing can make us feel sick or flawed or deficient.
If God does not have it, neither do we. Great truth. Needs only to be understood clearly.
    Deeply grateful.

  3. Thank you Evan! The idea of “one body” was something I never quite grasped, but when reading this blog the light dawned. Ding!

It occurred to me that if an accountant showed up to work and exclaimed that his “number 3” was broken or diseased or lacking in any way, his co-workers would laugh him out of the office. Why? Because an individual accountant doesn’t create or maintain his own “number 3”. The accountant just utilizes the one idea of “number 3” that is the result of the principle of mathematics or numbers.

Similarly, we don’t create or have to maintain our own set of ideas that comprise our daily experience. God has created every idea that exists and He/She maintains these ideas. And as you wrote, we just reflect (know, utilize, and express) these ideas. Wow, what a freeing concept! THANKS!

  4. Defining man as the reflection of Spirit, the individuality of Spirit, the form of Spirit, the identity of Spirit, the full manifestation of Truth….well, Evan, you gave us a lot to think about and act on this morning. As always, grateful for your deep insight and the fact that you SHARE it! Body has always been a bit “sticky” for me to grasp metaphysically, and now “I think I’ve got it!” At least a smidgeon of it anyway! Pressing forth….

  5. Good. Helpful. Thank you!

I’ve often pondered Christ Jesus’ question to the invalid of 38 years,:”Wilt thou be made whole?” Christian Science explains his question to mean, “Will you accept that you
are already healthy (whole)?” The man answered: “Yes!” And he leaped up, rejoicing.

God’s man knows ONLY health, wholeness, perfect being…his/her perfect embodiment of
spiritual qualities. So, who was it that leapt up, healed? Not man, but the illusion–the false claim–that man could ever be invalid, a cripple, helpless, less than whole.

We are illusion-busters!! How great to be on such a wonderful team! Thank you all!

And thank YOU, Evan, for SpiritView!

    :<)))

  6. Evan, God has given you the wonderful gift of taking seemingly abstract concepts and being able to make them very clear, understandable, practical and real. Thanks for sharing this foundational Principle of healing. It is the key that unlocks all the material jail cells, and frees us.

  7. Thank you Evan. Some good ideas I needed to be reminded of. What are we thinking?! Thanks for this quote from Science and Health “…have but one Mind, even God; for this Mind forms its own likeness.” (=

  8. Dear Evan; Thank you for this blog. It saved my relationship with my son that’s been going on for way over a year. To tell you what happened would take a small book to write.
Many times I felt discouraged about this and your blogs has helped me not to give up. All I can say you are an amazing person helping people through your blogs.
