Count Your Blessings

November 26, 2014 | 15 comments

It’s Thanksgiving Day tomorrow in the United States. I love this holiday because it reminds me to be grateful for all my blessings. And they are many.

I’m grateful for God, because God is always there for me no matter what.

I’m grateful for Love because Love makes it possible for me to work peacefully with others, form family bonds, and feel comfort and care.

I’m grateful for Truth because Truth enables me to face down lies and put their bad effect out of my life. It can heal me when I’m ill.

I’m grateful for Soul because Soul gives me individuality. Soul gives insight, foresight, creativity, purpose, worth, value, uniqueness. Soul eliminates the bland and boring and brings specialness to the surface.

I’m grateful for Mind because Mind has a solution to any problem.

I’m grateful for Principle because Principle gives me deep moral and spiritual rooting to keep me from toppling over when the winds of evil are blowing hard.

I’m grateful for health because health keeps me well and strong, able and capable. It’s a gift of God and comes from Spirit.

I’m grateful for Christ because Christ is always present and able to preserve my spiritual identity in God’s image.

I’m grateful for Life, because Life is fun when lived with God.

I’m grateful for all my family members, those in my house, those across the street, those thousands of miles away in remote locations, those whom I’ve never met, because they remind me that I’m not alone in this universe. We’re all members of one big universal family in Love. We have much to explore and learn together.

I’m grateful for Spirit, for Spirit gives me joy, might and strength to live and be.

I’m grateful to be alive! For life is good.

What are you grateful for?

“Are we really grateful for the good already received? Then we shall avail ourselves of the blessings we have, and thus be fitted to receive more” Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health, p. 3.

  1. I am gratefu to God for dear Evan’s blog for his thoughtfulness and compassion.
Thanks Evan for your love, patience and kindness.

  2. I’ll second that Nargis! Because of my job I check my smart phone immediately upon waking to make sure things went smoothly during the night. Most days Spiritview is awaiting me in my inbox. I typically read it fist, even before getting out of bed. It sets the tone for the day perfectly and, as many of your readers would agree, seems like you had me in mind when you wrote it. So thank you for your commitment to all of us, Evan… and Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.

  3. I’d have to say I’m most grateful for the life and words of Christ Jesus, and for all his faithful followers through the centuries, including Mary Baker Eddy, and for each one, everywhere who turns to God in humility. As the Founder of Christian Science states: “God is Love. Can we ask Him to be more?”

  4. I can’t be grateful enough for MBE’S discovery of C/S and it’s uncanny ability to answer all questions of how the universe works in it’s true harmony and how with it, solves all human problems.

  5. I am simply filled with feelings of gratitude–right now–thanks be to God (vintage church-speak) ! Also, thanks the “Spiritview” of so many others.

  6. I too second what Nargis said. I look forward to checking Spirit View daily as it always keeps me on track. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.

  7. Yes indeed, I am also very very grateful to you, Evan, for your reflected love via SpiritView!

This morning I have been thinking of Moses leading the Israelites out of bondage and
across the wilderness of Sin (Sinai), for quite a number of years, and how these dear folks
seemed to have forgotten how glad they were to be liberated from slavery to the Egyptians.
They began to worry and grumble about not having enough to eat or drink. Thank Goodness
for Moses’ closer communion with God, Who showed him how to awaken the people to the
ever-present provision that God had for them. Manna (flatbread) appeared each morning, quails every night, water from the rocks, pillars of clouds by day to guide them, fire by night. Big lessons in gratitude, I feel, for ingratitude would blind us to divine Love’s ever-present goodness and care.

I’m going to continue to ponder this, and to apply it to my daily attitude and approach to
    life.

    Thank you again, dear Evan!!

    :<)))))

  8. Thank you Evan for the encouragement
    And inspirational ideas and experiences
You give and share with us in Spiritview.
Iook forward to them everyday. I am grateful for the love & dedication you
    Give to us

  9. Like the others above, I have had many blessings this past year and much to be grateful for. At the same time, I would ask the readers of this blog to remember that for committed vegetarians and vegans, Thanksgiving week is the hardest, most agonizing week of the year. Because we know all too well that 46 million turkeys are being unnecessarily killed and eaten by USA folks. For those who follow Science and Health, please remember that it endorses only “a bit” of animal flesh eating (S&H 222:25). It does not endorse eating big sensuality-slabs of turkey meat in a food orgy. All that is truly needed to celebrate Thanksgiving is a grateful heart, not huge plates of food.

  10. I’m grateful for being on a journey of learning more about God, and growing spiritually; a journey that never ends. I’m also grateful for Evan’s joy. It’s contagious!

  11. I am very grateful to God for all His loving care, guidance and protection. Today was a really bad day for me. I kind of felt emotionally as if I were coming unglued. This evening I listened to your lecture Evan and I started to see how out of touch I had been with God. I lost my wallet in a store today. It completely became a mortal, physical bad dream kind of nightmare. I’m working through it this evening trying to uncover my fears ,and wrapping myself in God’s powerful control. I’m disappointed that someone would steal. I need to correct and know the Truth about the person who took it. Your gratitude list was just what I needed. Knowing that the Christ is ever present, and all powerful, I feel more at peace knowing that God is working with me. I am not alone. All is well. I am very grateful for Christian Science which gives us so many ways to explore and study all of these truths.

  12. This elucidated list of specifics of gratitude extends how we can think of gratitude in our everyday lives. Evan’s special gift to us is illuminating common words, adding insights to meanings and applications of these words so we can apply them in even greater ways. Full of thanks.

  13. I am grateful for all the goodness and joy that is consistently and constantly coming into my experience.
I am grateful that I knocked and it was answered.
