Gratitude keeps a healthy heart

February 11, 2016 | 9 comments

Gratitude is one of the quickest ways to spiritual healing. It opens the heart to love, the mind to truth and allows God to take over the body and restore it to health.

Even the medical community is recognizing the healing benefits of gratitude.

And if you’re curious to read more, here’s a study that confirms its restorative effect on the body. It was sent to me by a reader. Thank you!

  1. Thanks, Evan! I haven’t read the article yet, but I was thinking about why and how Gratitude is Healing…..I feel that Gratitude for God, for Life, for Light, for the Sun coming up each day, for each breath I take, is really an acknowledgment of God’s Love, of Spirit and Life. It means we see something beyond just the material evidence of our Lives and are actually touching the Source of our Being, God, Divine Love! And that’s what Heals!!

  2. I remember waking up in a hospital bed at the age of 9 from having a heart problem that was life threatening. My mother had a friend that was a Christian Science Practitioner who prayed for my healing. I was instantly healed and grew up to be a state Champion athlete, serve in the military, perform well in masters competitions and now at 67 still play vigorously with young men on a basketball court. But the greatest healing I think happened for my mother who turned to Christian Science after that to help our family have many healings. Mom was a Ph.D Chemical Engineer who wasn’t always loving when you interrupted her schedule. After turning to Christian Science, she became a very loving teacher and help many college kids through the tough courses in math and chemistry. She even taught at Principia after a long career at the University of Pittsburgh Bradford Campus. For that, I am extremely grateful. It not only changed my life by giving me a sense of the divine love associated with Christ through Christian Science, but change many other lives as well fulfilling the law of love who’s power is able to touch everyone in need according to their need. Great post Evan. It brought out a significant experience in my life of the healing power of Christian Science.

  3. Christian Science teaches the value of a grateful heart, also. Among other references is a hymn from the Christian Science Hymnal…..#3…..where it talks about a grateful heart being a “garden” where all kinds of good things grow; also a grateful heart being a fortress where we can feel God’s all present power; also a grateful heart as a temple where we will feel safe and watched over. And then we learn that a grateful heart is capable of loving and blessing all.

    Yep! it’s valuable alright!

  4. Josef: This is an impressive testimony and background you shared with us. The roots of Love in your life cannot be denied. All glory goes to God, our true Source. Thanks for sharing.

  5. I am a practicing C/S who is bed bound and had to go into hospital many times and still came home alive and able to continue my study of C/S no matter what the medical prognosis said in their reports. I survived not because of hatred of those medical practitioners but by realizing their wish to heal even though they didn’t know what C/S was in regard to healing. My Love for their dedication and gratitude for God is what’s keeping me alive.

    1. attempting to practice CS, graditude is the first thing I experience when I contemplate that God is really ALL there is! it just makes everything better instantly & I’m immediately grateful. .. thanks Evan!

  6. Thanks Evan and thanks to everyone that has commented!

Tobias’ comment reminded me of an article in the November 2015 Sentinel by Michelle Nanouche in which she realized how important it is to appreciate the “motive” behind an “act” even if we are not in agreement with the act itself. Below is a link I hope will take you to that article.

And I too enjoyed getting to know Josef better through his comment. It’s too bad all of the followers of SpiritView (and Evan too) can’t meet for lunch to get to know each other better. 🙂 But I feel like I’m getting to know everyone through their comments and even though I don’t write in to say so every day, I really appreciate everyone that takes time to comment!!!

  7. My 1st experience working with a practitioner she told me a story about a woman who was very ill. The woman was told she couldn’t be healed if she couldn’t be grateful. THe woman was very upset as she could not think of one thing to be grateful for- THe practitioner said as you drive home today on the bus you can be grateful for the white line down tbe.middle of the road – SHe suggested she write down 10 things a day that she could be grateful for. AFter a short while she was healed! I have always cherished that story. When things get to rock bottom. I always recall this story and know it is time to play the gratitude game!
Maintaining an attitude of gratitude is a great start!
