Follow through with the right thing to do

“It is sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it.”

~ James 4:17, NLT

It will always feel good to do the right thing. Don’t be afraid to follow through with where God is leading you. You will be blessed, and so will those around you.

  1. Yes, listen to God and follow through will lead us into all Truth – thank you Evan, for this reminder which I need everyday!

  2. Thank you Evan! We are in a financial spot that has been extremely frustrating. I have been afraid to go back into the workforce since I stayed home to raise my children who are now in college. So I needed this verse more than you can believe to know I can move forward by listening to God and know that it is my duty to also help provide and as someone mentioned above, I will be lead down the right spiritual path! Blessings

  3. A Perfect tip for today…..thanks, Evan! I got the “message” to go to my local church this Sun., which I had been avoiding, as I just don’t feel I “jive” with the people there. So, Darn, I got the message to go…….and so I will…..trusting and rejoicing all the way! I know I can’t go wrong if I follow that inner still, small voice! Love All!

    1. Bevi, I didn’t want to go to church on Sunday after I received news about a family member who has been a victim of abuse for many years and was too afraid to do anything.
      An hour before the church service was due to start, I finally listened to the voice inside me prompting me to go.
      When I arrived I was given a copy of July’s Bible Lessons and when I sat down and put my copy down next to me, it opened up to page 4 and I read: ‘Be still and know that I am God’ and this brought calm and peace. I have been meditating on this verse since. The Bible verses from Sunday’s sermon proved to be very comforting too!
      Also I am glad I received my copy of Bible Lessons as we are reading about God this week, including his attributes.
      So I hope you will go to Church on Sunday where you won’t be judged, but loved. God loves YOU!

  4. The right thing to do, can come as a surprise, an unexpected inspiration. Here’s what happened yesterday. While closing up the Christian Science Reading Room downtown, in my desert town, the rain began. 20% chance had turned into a downpour here. I hesitated to go to the car, as the rain fall increased, so I sat down. It poured. I glanced outside, a was inspired by the thought, “The rain is like washing away all my sins.” The water poured, gushed and ran quickly down Main Street. I prepared to leave again, in the downpour, putting my valuables in a protective bag.
    Instead I picked up the broom, and swept the sidewalk from the front of the building into the street. Here in the desert we have City street sweeping machines, but not sidewalk sweepers. The dirt was swept away into the gutter, the roof grit coming down onto the sidewalk was swept into the gutter, the local weekly market jetsam and flotsam was swept into the gutter. A woman approached and asked me if I would pay her to help me. My doing the sweeping felt like an angel had come to visit. My prayer went straight to the thought that her need was being met, by God, not humanly, but through Divine Spirit.

  5. If God tells me to do something, I do it but only if God tells me. By heading to this rule, I never felt wanting. It’s a feeling that comes from faithfully study of the C/S LESSON, and nothing else. Imani opinion is based on matter being the bases of true life which will always lead to false conclusions, never, ever knowing the right course to take.

  6. What a blessing this message is even though it is after the fact for me this morning. We have water shortages here in So. California and where I live we can’t water between 9 AM and 6 PM. We’ve had no rain lately, so I really needed to water my lilac bushes this morning. But I needed prayer more. So I got up at 6 AM. I prayed and studied this week’s Bible Lesson on God – which is so inspiring. And, I still had time to finish my watering before 9 AM. Putting God first can only bring us blessings!

  8. Thank you, Evan. As I am mailing a $100 check to a neighbor for restitution for a small tree that my goats ate, I’m striving to not only make that gesture but to do it with affection.
    On the other hand, I am striving to eliminate those little “should” mortal guilt twinges that come from mortals and remember that God’s message to do what I should create feelings of freedom and love, not guilt. Sometimes I have trouble telling the difference!

  9. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. (Matthew 5:5)

    Whenever I used to read this beatitude I would read it this way:

    Blessed are those that are meek in their relationships with other people, for they will inherit the earth.

    But recently it occurred to me a better way to read this beatitude is as follows:

    Blessed are those that are meek in their relationship with God, for they will inherit the earth.

    In other words, blessed are we when we hear God’s direction and follow it.

    This interpretation also clears up the confusion that some people have with regard to thinking this beatitude means we should let others take advantage of us. When following God’s direction we can know when to be either assertive or gentle. We can be safe from being taken advantage of because, as the Psalmist wrote (Psalms 91:9-11):

    9) Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;

    10) There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.

    11) For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.

    It’s helpful to read that last verse using the definition of Angels from Science and Health (pg 581):

    Angels. God’s thoughts passing to man; spiritual intuitions, pure and perfect;

  10. Again, Evan sets the stage, and Brian so thoughtfully enhances the subject. I print these so as to remember.

  11. Definitions for meek include “free from pride, patient, tolerant, endurance”, all good qualities when doing the right thing.

  12. One day it came to me when I was on a tight schedule “There is always time to do good.” It has been my guiding thought ever since. It led me to do the right thing just a couple of weeks ago as I was on my way to church, and I was late. I passed by a man sitting on a bus stop bench in the rain. After I’d gone a little way the thought came to go back, against my protest that I needed to get to church. I turned around (the car almost turned itself around!) and offered him my umbrella. He was so grateful! It feels soooo good to do the right thing and know we can’t suffer for it. (=

    As Mary Baker Eddy states in Science and Health “Whatever it is your duty to do, you can do without harm to yourself.” p.385:17

  13. Thank you again Evan And Brian. It helps me to be quiet so I can hear what
    God. wants me to do. Also do unto others as you would want done unto you.
