You were created for a reason

January 12, 2017 | 24 comments

In case you were unsure, there is a reason you exist and it’s a super good reason!

I love Mary Baker Eddy’s observation, “Each individual must fill his own niche in time and eternity” Retrospection and Introspection, p. 70 because it reminds me that I have a niche to fill, and no one else can fill it.

You have a niche to fill too!

Everyone has a place to occupy, a role to play and a purpose to fulfill.

It’s important that we understand this truth, lest we get talked out of it by doubts and criticisms of the carnal mind that would deny us individuality, purpose and worth.

The carnal mind might seem to work overtime on occasion to convince a person that they don’t matter, that they’re not important and that the world would be fine without them. But these are all bold-faced lies and untruths. Every child of God is important. Every child of God has a purpose. Every child of God has a reason to be.

All of God’s creation fits together in one grand harmonious whole. Every individual manifestation of God needs all the other individual manifestations of God to be part of this one grand whole. There can be no drop-outs or left-outs.

Like a gear in a transmission. If one gear fails to work or is left out, all the other gears sit idle or perform poorly, and the transmission fails to work. Each gear needs the other for the transmission to fulfill its purpose.

You are a vital cog in the grand mechanism of God’s universe. You are just as important as anyone else. And everyone else needs you just as much as you need them.

You have your niche to fill. Figure out what that niche is, accept it, love it, and flourish in fulfilling its promise.

  1. As always, thank you Evan.

Each individual thought/idea is enabling the heavens to declare the glory of God. What greater purpose each one of these (us) has to fulfill. Truly beautiful are the vivid colors of harmony. Not even one hue can be denied its appointed space, to serve its distinct purpose to the whole of His creation, throughout time and eternity. Our true identity as promised is guaranteed.

Number one and its infinite derivatives is used daily over and over, never denied its new opportunities to shine in the light of truth, and so it can be, and is with us, now, and throughout eternity. Each number built upon number one has its specific purpose for proper recognition, giving correctness and beauty to its ultimate placement and usefulness.

Love is now and everlasting. Love never wears out, for God is Love.

  2. How does one discover their niche ?……Well, I suppose my niche is not to express mortal mind…I suppose my niche is revealed by Truth as I travel through the cycles which MBE describes…….
Question …..have we each been thru the same number of cycles?………

I don’t know, yet it seems we each have experienced a different number of cycles because there is such a difference between individuals understanding …..now , of course, I’m speaking of our ‘Human Life” …. and as I said …I don’t know…..but I would like to ……

  3. Yes! This is so encouraging, Evan! Thank You for sharing! And even if Mary Baker Eddy hadn’t written those beautiful words assuring us of our unique niche in our earthly experience, as well as in our spiritual experience, it would still be True! One of the things that doesn’t get addressed much in C.S. is the fact that what kind of care, or lack of care, we received as children plays a Huge Part in giving us a sense of our worthiness. C.S. doesn’t embrace human psychology as a healing factor in helping us to heal from childhood wounds. And that’s something that I’ve had to go outside of C.S. for help with. The carnal mind that tells us we’re not worth much, is only repeating the information and impressions that got put in there when we were growing up and it’s usually just a repetition of what our human parents experienced in their childhoods. It has to be seen, addressed and felt and talked out, or it will continue to “run” our lives as adults. Thanks again for this most important topic!

    1. Dear Bevi.. I know personally of these things of which you speak….. the greater the challenge the more was revealed to me to face it and therefore turn it into a thread of my beautiful life….
I have chosen to make a beautiful and colorful woven tapestry an analogy of my “human” life…
The darkness of some of the threads I have not rejected… they serve me now for the dark threads are the border of my tapestry that frame and serve to make the wondrous brilliant colors of the truth and goodness of my life, demonstrate and shine even more powerfully…
Bevi … just as you are, you are so deeply loved and lovable…a perfect child of perfect parents who has created beauty….and always will…

  4. The abundance of love as an ever infinite supply is flowing out of these post. What a wonderful thought that we can carry with us to share with those who may need it, be it ourselves or another. I just get this overwhelming feeling of being surrounded by the good of acceptance from this post.

  5. I agree with all, what a great post! Josef: you hit the nail on the head! (That’s how I feel, to!) Today I am one happy little cog in the big forever engine of all that is Good! Celebrating, thanks to you Evan! Thank you everyone! Bless your niche! 🙂

  6. Dear Bevi: What care or lack of care you received as a child has no relation to or effect on your worthiness. I know this from experience. Without going into all of the gory details: I grew up being unwanted, unloved and nothing I did appreciated. Although both parents were class taught Christian Scientists, I never talked to a C.S. practitioner – but I had a wonderful, thoughtful and loving family doctor. My brother who was 6 years older than I continuously assured me of my self worth. Thus, I have been able to overcome many hardships, have a successful career where I was appreciated and my capabilities acknowledged, and through the study of Christian Science and taking class instruction grown, and continue to grow, in my understanding of who I am as God’s beloved child.

As a repeat of a previous comment of mine: “I EXIST TO FULFIL GOD’S WILL, TO BEAR WITNESS TO WHAT HE IS, TO GLORIFY HIM, TO MANIFEST HIS QUALITIES.” (Arthur P. Wuth) As I put this into practice to the best of my ability I will always be worthy, and so are you and everyone in God’s eyes.

  7. Thanks, Lori! That is soooooo encouraging! I still am so wary of people, whether parents or not, who were Class Taught in C.S. and yet can be abusive and so out of touch with Reality. I guess what it shows me is that you can read, study, take Class in C.S. and still not really “Get It”! Every human being is unique and on their own journey and whatever religion they embrace or don’t embrace really doesn’t have much to say about how they live their lives or who they are. Everyone still has to work out their own personal relationship with God, whether they hid behind or profess to be a certain religion or not! Thanks, again, Lori, for your kindness and for being willing to share honestly and to reach out!! Much Love!

  8. Thank you Evan! If it were up to me, I would require the ideas you have shared with us today to be taught in every school in the world and in every grade, over and over. If everyone understood their true purpose I believe that would go a long way towards preventing drug addiction, alcoholism, depression, health problems, selfishness, murder, theft, etc.,, etc., etc. Just think what a positive positive affect on society this blog today will have!!! Thanks again!

  9. Evan thank you for reminding me that i am so important – that my existence does matter. Mortal mind is an expert in telling me that i don’t count. I had
This experience with my first marriage. ,
And I’m still striving to undo the damage.
It’s funny how the lie is hi-lighted in
    Relationships. Thru reading science &
    Health my growing understanding of
God is revealing to me how important
Each of us is. , but I needed to read this
Blog to constantly remind me that it
is so. So thank you Evan and everyone
For the encouragement to keep persevering in our quest to seek out
    Our true perfect spiritual selves.

  10. Thank you Evan and Spirit View fans! I love Maximo’s comments each day.
If we look on Heaven is on earth than is there a human life per say? Are we not looking on life as the here and now forever more?

  11. Evan thank you for this reminder. Josef and Chris, your remarks are wonderful. Lori, you say it all with this quote: “I EXIST TO FULFILL GOD’S WILL, TO BEAR WITNESS TO WHAT HE IS, TO GLORIFY HIM, TO MANIFEST HIS QUALITIES.” (Arthur P. Wuth) . As I put this into practice to the best of my ability I will always be worthy, and so are you and everyone in God’s eyes.

This (to quote Chris) “happy little cog in the big forever engine of all that is Good” has found her niche!!

Brian, it would help so many students to have Evan’s post taught in schools. Great idea!!

  12. I am grateful to be reminded to put forth, give, bless, do my best in all venues…a responsibility I am grateful tobe reminded about to reflect God in all that I say and do.

  13. DEAR Bevi- I so agree with what Lori said. Do take it to heart! As a teacher I’ve had former students get in touch with me many years later and share horrible stories about their family situations and then tell me that an observation I made of them, or comment on how well they did something literally changed their life forever. Sometimes these dear ones don’t hear how much they are cherished for years but I am confident that you are loved and cherished by those whose lives you’ve touched. Even if you don’t remember them pls take a moment and be grateful for every iota of good you’ve ever been shown. Sometimes hurt is the prison gate and Love and gratitude are the hinges that open that door. YOU are LOVED, you ARE loveable, and you are LOVING. I know, I read you remarks every day! God bless you!

  14. Each piece in a jigsaw puzzle is unique and necessary. No matter how odd-shaped one piece may be, without it, the picture is simply incomplete!

  15. Thank you for this great blog Evan…So loving, so helpful!
As a Great Grandmother it is my privilege to watch progress of two little children attending separate Day Care facilities .
It’s been very noticeable that each facility takes great care in teaching each child how very precious, unique and individual each one is. The children blossom. They are happy and soon become cooperative . So I do feel there are signs of progress. That earnest desire to help our children feel wanted and necessary is slowly dawning ,Maximo.
Progress in handling this young, fresh thought is very evident. The government’s willingness to spend more money on early child-care is proving to be a wise move.
Maybe we can’t help by getting our message into the schools. But the invisible Christ is there and forwarding our desires.

  16. Thank you, Patty Hirsch! I feel your Love and know it is from the Source – God – Higher Power – Spirit…..whatever we choose to call Her/Him! Much Love!
