Sort out truth from error

February 17, 2017 | 15 comments

“An error does not become truth by reason of multiplied propagation, nor does truth become error because nobody sees it.”

~ Mahatma Gandhi

As a student of Christian Science, I can readily identify with this quote.

Disease is aggressively promoted through the media these days, and millions of people take on increasing fear about catching it. But that doesn’t make disease any more real. It can still be prevented and healed with spiritual truth and an understanding of secure health in Spirit.

  1. What an encouraging message. Thanks Evan. If we only understood that we live in God, Spirit and identify our self as the embodiment of Spirit, the material body would not bother us at all. Its only when we keep identifying our self with the body, we make disease a reality.
God in His goodness never created anything unlike Himself. “Whatever is worthy and good God made. Whatever is valueless and baneful, He did not make. Hence its unreality.” By Mary Baker Eddy.
Fear has to be done away with, to allow Truth (another name of God) to outweigh error, sin, disease and destroy it. Fear certainly is a barrier to God’s grace, which alone confers healing.
A person who fears is unable to grasp God’s love, His infinite goodness, His all power and all presence. Just as light and darkness do not go together. Fear and Healing can never go together. Light destroys darkness, similarly the light of God’s all power and all presence. destroys the darkness of ignorance and fear and brings to light His abundant grace, His unconditional love and perfection. Error and disease disappear under the microscope of Truth.
Quote “The power of Christian Science and Divine Love is omnipotent. Its indeed adequate to unclasp the hold and to destroy sin, sickness and death.” Unquote Mrs. Eddy in Science and Health .

  2. Wow, this is great, thanks to both Evan and Nergish for this morning’s redirection. As I endeavor to “catch” mortal thought telling me what is wrong with my body, I have become very conscious of the frequency of these aggressive mental suggestions. I am actually, out loud, saying “NO”, this is helpful to me to to redirect my thought. It got me wondering what others do to catch themselves?

    1. Hi JHP…. You have found a method that works for you…. so in this respect you
are taking your salvation into your own hands and working it all out…
I am a bit of a maverick in that I make my own experiments designed with what i know of Christian Science and see what works… Most work and this makes my progress my own…
Back to your question… when mortal mind acts up in my thoughts.. i identify the claim by looking it right in the eye…Thank you Edward Kimball for this advice he gave in an address to CS practitioners , circa 1909….Having thus identified the claim i invoke the appropriate declaration of Truth… the mm claim vanishes immediately…Unmasked mm claims have no power… To take it a step further one can experiment with nothing-izing mortal mind..which means …
Not only does mm have no power… it doesn’t exist….. it has never existed
There has never been a there there…. Needless to say mm does not like us doing this practice…ha ha ha

  3. While working at the local library several years ago, we were asked to attend the presentation of a new database. It was how to search for any questions you might have about disease. The astonishing news to me was that (at the time) the only two countries in the world who were aloud to advertise medicine were the U.S. and New Zealand. I thought at the time (and still do) that the media is really advertising disease and we simply don’t have to BUY it.

    1. Yes Lois, that surprised me too when I first heard it. And on public radio I heard a former advertising executive tell about working on an ad campaign for a new drug. The drug company instructed them to first sell the disease, and afterward sell the drugs. How cynical. And how grateful we can be that we understand that subtle suggestion and can guard against it–by saying NO! like jhp, and then changing the channel, both of the TV and our own thoughts.

    2. Lois, the only countries that allow pharmaceutical advertising remain the U.S. and New Zealand to this day. When we visited S. Korea and watched tv there, it was refreshing, and very noticeable, not to see a barrage of medical advertising. We must stay viligant against unwanted suggestions.

  4. Thank you, Evan and Contributors! One of my favorite quotes from Gandhi that is helping me now to deal with all the turmoil in the U.S. Govt. and White House is: “When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love have always won. There have been tyrants and murderers, and for a time, they can seem invincible, but in the end, they always fall. Think of it…..Always!”

  5. These post and comments are a daily blessing. My notebook is full of treatments and blessings. I thank you all for your participation, for healing thoughts, prayers and demonstrations.

  6. I was not aware and am quite surprised that the U.S. and New Zealand are the only countries that allow the advertising of medicines. I have conflicted feelings each Christmas when I received the annual news letter from a dear friend describing the wonderful trips she and her husband have taken during the year. I am so grateful she’s having these lovely experiences, but disturbed that they are paid for by the pharmaceutical companies her husband represents.

  7. I have close relatives and friends in both Germany and Austria and they have pharmaceutical ads on their television stations and even on their state run stations. My finger is always near the mute button when I’m watching a wholesome movie on Hallmark. The only good thing is that the mute button has taught me over the past years how to mute any erroneous thoughts that come to mind when I’m not watching TV. There has definitely been growth for me in this department. Still I wish we could change this for everyone who buys into these suggestions and doesn’t know that they can mute it. It would be a healthier world in which to live. I’m so grateful for Christian Science my whole life and thank you Evan for all you do for us. I’m also grateful for you and the folks who contribute to this blog. Thank you all!

  8. How many legs does a dog have if you call his tail a leg? Four. Saying that a tail is a leg doesn’t make it a leg. Abraham Lincoln

  9. Hallo, just to make it clear — I am from Hamburg/Germany – mostly the private TV stations show Ads for medicine during the films, and that very often – Susan is right – and I too have my finger close to the mute button when I look such films on private TV. But I think that is not the real point, Evan wanted to let us know. The point is that despite the constant advertisments on health care, the error is still not true, and nothing can make it true, because it is not of Spirit. Spirit, God alone is true and gives us the knowledge that only in God, Spirit we find secure health. Thank you Evan for this comforting absolute Truth! ;-))
