Thank you Evan for the reminder to re-look at what appears to be an enemy and remember to see them from God’s perfect perspective … I love what MBE has to say about this:
“Love Your Enemies
Who is thine enemy that thou shouldst love him? Is it a creature or a thing outside thine own creation?
Can you see an enemy, except you first formulate this enemy and then look upon the object of your own conception? What is it that harms you? Can height, or depth, or any other creature separate you from the Love that is omnipresent good, — that blesses infinitely
one and all?
Simply count your enemy to be that which defiles, defaces, and dethrones the Christ-image that you should reflect. Whatever purifies, sanctifies, and consecrates human life, is not an enemy, however much we suffer in the process.”
Cam you please give a reference for this entire quote…the depth and detail are exquisite. Thank you so much.
Hi Rebecca, see Mrs Eddy’s article Love Your Enemies which starts on page 8 of Miscellaneous Writings. 🙂
thank you so much MB for mentioning Miscellanious Writings by Mary Baker Eddy page 8 about”enimies”.
That is an article worth reading, so inspiring!
Yesterday on a walk through a nearby park with my wife the thought came to me to share my joy especially with those who I perceive as not deserving it. Now, I thought, this could be difficult in that it could be misunderstood as mockery, but then, I realized that if that joy included acceptance as God’s creating that sharing whatever joy I expressed could not be harmful but joyously shared. Thank you Evan for this timely post.
Thank you for sharing the quote from Mary Baker Eddy, M Christie. How freeing to know that our enemies so called are not people, but …..
“Simply count your enemy to be that which defiles, defaces, and dethrones the Christ-image that you should reflect.”
We think it’s people, but it’s really misconception. Misconceptions about God and man that would dethrone our reflection as God’s image.
As the world prays for peace, every little step forward needs be cherished and supported. A world with no enemies. With God all things are possible.
How very appropriate considering the meeting today between Trump and Mr Kim. The meeting of “enemies”? The real enemy is seeing someone else as an enemy or as God even creating another power. Today, I think many thousands of people were praying for these “enemies” including me.
Yes! Thousands pray dailly for our President and our leaders.
There is power in prayer.
Many thanks for SpiritView !
Amen! All praying for peace.
I’m so glad I read this Blog Page today. During the last few days, I’ve been silently accusing an unknown person, an enemy?, for walking off with $400 in cash during my moving sale… money I had put aside for a particular purpose. Realizing that there is no enemy has put my mind at peace. There is only abundant Love.
Thank you very much Evan, for another short but very important SpiritView.
Important because to love our socalled enemies is important for our health and wellbeing.
During my CS class in Berlin I once asked my teacher about the 23rd Psalm – namely the sentence: “you (the Lord) prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies” (NLT)
I said to him that I learnt, that in absolute Science there is no enemy – what is then meant with e n e m y in this passage of the 23rd Psalm.
He explained it means: “the false claim of animal magnetism.” I found that very clear, an enemy is an error, nothing, because God made only loving children, the outcome of Himself, who is infinite LOVE.
I am grateful for all I still can learn in Christian Science, today through the Christ, the divine manifestation of God.
My enemy is believing that there is a power apart from God, who is omnipotent.
My dear Sunday School teacher, years ago told me when I was having some difficulty with someone, “Bless him, and let him go.” That’s been very helpful to me. When I seem to be confronted by someone who is acting like an enemy, it’s challenging me to see the perfect man, God’s blessed child instead and I can mentally say “thank you.” Not that I’m perfect at it yet, but I’m working at it! 🙂
