The 23rd Psalm for a busy person

The 23rd Psalm, a Japanese Translation

The Lord is my Pace-setter, I shall not rush,

He makes me stop and rest for quiet intervals.

He provides me with images of stillness, which restore my serenity.

He leads me in ways of efficiency through calmness of mind,

And His guidance is peace.

Even though I have a great many things to accomplish each day,

I will not fret for His presence is here.

His timelessness, His all importance will keep me in balance.

He prepares refreshment and renewal in the midst of my activity.

By anointing my mind with His oils of tranquility;

My cup of joyous energy overflows.

Surely harmony and effectiveness shall be the fruits of my hours.

For I shall walk in the pace of my Lord and dwell in His house forever.

  1. I haven’t seen this in ages! Thank you for posting. I will share it with several people. Today, this is my favorite part, and my prayer:

My cup of joyous energy overflows.

Surely harmony and effectiveness shall be the fruits of my hours.

For I shall walk in the pace of my Lord and dwell in His house forever.

  2. I love this…it’s SO “Japanese” in style…it almost sounds like a very long Haiku. 🙂 I love the idea of a “cup of joyous energy ” overflowing…abundantly!

Also the “images of stillness” restoring serenity, as this is exactly what happens when we see peaceful images and scenes…they always evoke a feeling of balance and harmony.
    Thankyou so much for this.

  3. I love this and have not seen it before. I too have forwarded it to friends who will really appreciate this contemporary translation that speaks so easily to anyone today. Thanks Evan.

  4. So good and true, thank you Evan – my cup of yoyous energie overflows – so helpful!

  5. Beautiful and contemporary rendition of a timeless psalm. Thank you, Evan, for posting this. Reading it brings a precious tranquility. Especially love: “His timelessness,His all importance will keep me in balance.”

  6. I had not seen this before but liked it very much. It would be a great activity for everyone to do something similar to help us expand our own thinking about this healing psalm.

  7. This is a new one. I have always loved this psalm though you often hear it at funerals. I found it to be for the work here when I studied it. Thank you for the new version.

  8. Thank you so much for sharing this unique translation of this favorite and powerful Psalm. I have found much healing and spiritual refreshment in praying with this psalm. This beautiful rendition adds to this psalm continuing spiritual uplift and appreciation for its gift of peace, calmness, joy and encouragement to feel and know the ever presence of God’s love in our lives. 9. Many thanks, Evan! I had not seen it before and find it so harmonizing.
As others have written, I too, will share it with many

  10. “My cup of joyous energy overflows.” How greatly this was needed! Thanks to Evan and to all who have commented.

  11. Dealing with schedules and road work and half hour construction stops in our area and having fretted in the past, I have relaxed and taken reading material pass the time during the wait and would know spiritually before I started that God is in charge of all time . Evety time I was able to reach my destination in record time.
I have tears of gratitude for his/her loving care.

  12. The wait could be up to 45 minutes
then following a pilot car turning a 50 minute drive into a two hour trip to the nearest large town.
I am so grateful to you Evan for sharing these wonderful incites to help us see more clearly God’s law. And how we can tune in and practise it.

  13. Oh, my, how I needed this. Having gone to the local airport for my early TSA check in paperwork, pd. the necessary $$$ and have been in “wait mode” for almost 3 weeks for my pre-check in paperwork—and a flight due next week, my attitude has been more than annoyance. Oh, how this translation (no matter the country or language) has put a stop to my mortal pre-planning. “I will not fret for HIS presence is HERE, His timelessness, His all importance will keep me in balance.” Suddenly, I realize that TSA is NOT in control, nor am I. God is in control and I walk (not a mad dash) with Him along the way—and OH, (the day of my flight) it is a Holy Day!. Thank you, dear Evan. And, all of the loving comments and helpful thoughts above!!!!

  14. Reinterpretation of the phrases that lead us to a higher perception of energy,….
in the higher perception of our divinity need always be re~sourced for higher, farther, and faster comprehension.

  15. This is Pat (again), 6 paragraphs above. Just had to share the culmination of this wonderful Spiritview message. After totally deep 6-ing my frustration about not being able to retrieve my TSA # for pre-boarding, I turned to the whole of Psalms 23. A great peace descended on my thought. Gone was the worry, concern, WHERE is my early boarding number. The whole annoyance disappeared and I left the solution in the loving Father’s hands.

Today,24 hrs. later I am in possession of my early pre-TSA boarding paperwork. My astonishment is only over powered by my tremendous gratitude for the loving Spiritview message (and comments) that put the whole “problem” in perspective, taught me to trustingly know that God was in control of every facet of my being and allowed me to absolutely know that God was commander of all details in my (and everyone’s life). What a great lesson learned. When impatience surfaces, now I know where to go–Psalms 23 and the beautiful interpretation. My gratitude knows no bounds.

  16. A very comforting and reassuring rendition of the 23rd Psalm indeed. It takes away the fear, the tension, the rushing, the struggles and strife from our life. It attunes us to the comforting, reassuring, renewing, support, power and presence of God which can bring peace, harmony and fresh inspiration even amidst an extremely tight schedule or seemingly difficult and impossible situations and challenges in our life.
Thanks Evan for making us feel the comforting and reassuring presence of God in our life, which can meet any emergency with a smile on our lips and peace in our heart.
