Take your mental environment with you

April 8, 2019 | 29 comments

If you ever feel victimized by a harsh mental environment, for instance, at work, with certain people, or even when alone, it helps to understand the truth about environment so that you can exercise dominion over the turmoil and prevent it from becoming your angst.

In the allness of God, environment is a Mind-consciousness, where things are thoughts, people are spiritual ideas, and conditions are spiritual.

This environment is not mortal or material. It is not ruled by other people. It cannot be invaded by anger, hatred, envy or jealousy. It is never upset, irritated, bothered or perturbed. It is the Mind of God, and it determines its own conditions and outcomes. It is spiritual, and remains forever free of conflict.

As a child of God, you reflect the Mind of God. You are not a pawn in the hand of mortal mind that can be mentally thrown around by whatever emotion or attitude is thrown at you by a neighbor. You are an undisturbed spiritual reflection of the one Mind that is filled with poise, equanimity, grace and dominion. You have this mental environment to claim whether at work, home or anywhere else. It is forever yours, and is never lost.

Be sure to take your harmonious mental environment with you wherever you go today. It’s yours to enjoy every moment of your life! And no one can take it from you.

“…to be spiritually minded is life and peace” Romans 8:6, KJV.

    1. Hi Gillian – thank you for sharing the poem – is there more to the poem than In the circle of Love Cathrine Joy Hogg From the May 6, 1996 issue of the Christian Science Sentinel

I’m in the circle of Love all day, Enfolded in God’s arms— Beloved and cared for all the way, Watched over, safe from harm. I’m in the circle of Love all day, No error there to fear— His angel thoughts are mine always, Our Father-Mother God is here.

I do not have a JSH online subscription at the present but I desire to – is there more to the poem than that?

      1. Sorry the link – provides what I copy and pasted here only — but a subscription would have brought me all the way to answer my question

    2. Thanks for providing the poem.. I loved it too. I’m always putting people in fathomless billows of Infinite Love. I know that’s where I want to be.

  1. Thank you so much, Evan, for this very helpful reminder which I really need right now. We truly need to be protecting our thoughts every moment from the sneaky suggestions that mortal so-called mind is forever throwing at us which would disturb us, and actively breath in and breath out the spiritual atmosphere of pure love, harmony and peace. Thank you also for the lovely poem, Gillian.

  2. Thank you really very much, dear Evan, for that is just what I need – I also think that this is in general needed. You explains it metaphysically so loving and clear, so helpful. Am grateful for your daily post!
“In atmosphere of Love divine we live and move and breathe…” Hymn 144 A very helpful Hymn, I love it.

    Thanks for the poem, Gillian!

  3. Thank you so much, Evan!! And thank you, Gillian, for the perfect poem.

A friend called me last night. She said she’s worried about many problems, including the human environment. She had read articles with frightening conclusions.

My friend is not a CS student and is agnostic in her thinking, so I tried to reassure her without using a spiritual vocabulary. I found this challenging; it would be like trying to write this paragraph without the letter ‘s.’

I reminded my friend that the authors of scary articles don’t usually have PhDs in the appropriate subdiscipline of science. World-class atmospheric chemists tend to be more optimistic, for various, important reasons.

But human thinking can only take us so far, even when it’s scientific. When I woke up this morning, I was – guess what – worried about human problems!

I was so grateful to read this blog post, and I will cherish the statement, “the environment … is the Mind of God, and it determines its own conditions and outcomes.”

    Much love.

  4. Thank You Evans and everyone for such good thoughts on Love’s environment and Mind’s All Harmonious condition. As a spiritual idea of Mind, we reflect the exquisite unlabored and unforced Grace Of Spirit that manifest our cherished being in our daily lives. . Anything unlike such beautiful qualities of God is not ours. We are always cladded in the panoply of all-encompassing Love, human negativity and any suggestive hatred or fear cannot enter. Love manifest all and everyone is under its tender care including those so-called difficult persons and attitudes melting before Love’s irresistible presence.

  5. Undisturbed…not ignoring human issues but facing them undisturbed, with the “calm strong currents” (see page 99 of Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy) of God-centered prayer. Thank you, Evan, what a great blog for a Monday morning. 🙂

    1. I agree, Grace. There Seem to be many evil forces in our world today, that would degrade our environment. I believe you are right that we need to face them, not ignore them and bring them to the surface of understanding where we are in harmony with our environment, working together as on this blog, to help
heal and overcome the pollution of physical and mental seeming discord that tries to inflict itself upon us and our surroundings.

  6. I just wanted to let you know, Gillian, that I’ve copied and pasted this lovely poem and shared it with a number of my C.S. friends.

    “In the circle of Love”
    by Cathrine Joy Hogg
    (Sentinel, May 6, 1966)

“I’m in the circle of Love all day,
    Enfolded in God’s arms—
Beloved and cared for all the way,
    Watched over, safe from harm.

I’m in the circle of Love all day,
    No error there to fear—
His angel thoughts are mine always,
    Our Father-Mother God is here.

  7. Quite timely today, since I was feeling a tad hurt by a comment from a “neighbour”.. funny you specifically mentioned “neighbour” Evan.
Im reminded of Mrs Eddy’s comments in Taking Offence in her Misc. Writings, wherein she advises not to be rattled unless the offence is against God. Thank you for sharing your spiritual wisdom!

  8. Thank you Evan for this timely subject today, I woke up to this and it was exactly what I needed right now. Thank you all for your comments and for the lovely poem. I’m going to go about my day living in the atmosphere of Love, and keeping an open mind that whatever comes my way God will deal with it in the right way.

  9. Thank you, Evan. This is beautifully stated giving a wonderful start to our day. I just love your post. They are so helpful and supportive.

  10. Thank you, Evan and all! Environment is an issue that concerns me, too, and I would love to feel more confident of divine Love’s control over pollution, wildfires, floods, drought, volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, wildlife endangerment and extinction, violent storms and other “natural” disasters.

  11. Thank you all! What came to me this morning was that this thought of pollution, so widely discussed and sometimes feared, is coming to the surface to be destroyed. I thought of what was told me about the MBE’s name: Mary—the mother of Jesus who had such a pure thought, and Mary Magdalene who was the first to see Jesus after his resurrection; Baker—the woman who put leaven into the three loaves as MBE put the leaven of Truth into the three loaves of Science, Theology, and Medicine, and Eddy—the eddy stirs the muddy waters and brings the pollution (error) to the surface to be swept away.

    1. Daphne, what a perfect expression of how Mary Baker Eddy showed us to overcome the world. Thanks for the Daily Bread.

  12. Thank you so much, Evan and commenters! This and the poem will be most helpful for my jail ministry, where “God has no memory of your errors” especially, and other blogs have been read, shared, and much appreciated for their healing truth and love.

    1. That is wonderful, Carolyne what you are doing there, so blessing for everybody there and you.!

  13. “…the joy that none can take away, is mine, I walk with Love today” is a hymn (I can’t look up the number right now). I have recalled the words to this hymn for years and the words it contains always satisfies.
