I never worry about action, but only inaction.
~ Winston Churchill
Evil is not something to fear and flee before, or that becomes more real when it is grappled with. Evil let alone grows more real, aggressive, and enlarges its claims; but, met with Science, it can and will be mastered by Science.
~ Mary Baker Eddy, Miscellaneous Writings, p. 284
Thank you Evan. This is so true when praying for Ukraine and all troubled areas. Good thoughts to work with.
This is something that I frequently turn to, “In the battle of life, good is made more industrious and persistent because of the supposed activity of evil. The elbowing of the crowd plants our feet more firmly.” (Miscellaneous Writings 1883–1896, Mary Baker Eddy, p. 339:10–12)
What a great way to start the day with a quote by my mom’s favorite person, Winsto Churchill. This reminded me that we should Never run from evil, in whatever guise, or sudden appearance for any reason, because it must be handled in order to overcome it. This lesson has been brought home in my experience and I can vouch for its verity.
Thank you for+ sharing this , Evan and peace to all here and Everywhere!!
Makes me think of one of my Mothers off to school quotes… ‘ Persistence is to know only Gods existence!’ I think it was mostly when my grades slipped somewhat.
Thank you Evan. Thanks also to Karen for the quote from MBE’s article Fidelity. On the next page 340 line 5/6 she also says …’There is no excellence without labour; and the time to work is, NOW.’
Much here to think on today! Love to all❣️
Thank you Evan… wonderful thoughts to start the day
I love both quotes- so powerful ! Thank you Evan.
We don’t let little errors and mistaken beliefs blow up into overwhelming catastrophic evil when we keep a disciplined prayer perspective and courageous commitment to prompt right action to bless all. We don’t allow ourselves to be tempted to wrongly react, overact, enact a lie, or die.
When I mentally knocked myself to the ground to be as a lonely little lost ant, with a teenier light, from that perspective shining my little flashlight ego viewpoint up at a beetle, the beetle’s shadow grows to a giant larger than that warehouse it looks like the beetle is eating, scaring “ant” me more and more.
But when I mentally fly up to heaven where God’s radiant light brighter than the sun shines down, that teeny weenie ant viewpoint seems so far away and the beetle leaves a smaller shadow that cannot scare, overwhelm, and immobilize me, That little beetle’s shadow cannot overshadow my sense of God loving us all. When I don’t bring myself down below its level and attach myself to thinking of myself as a disconnected ant without a protective supportive tribe or as a worse lifeless mere speck of dust, that beetle and little sugar ant don’t loom so big. I don’t feel inadequate and overwhelmed and trampled down, self-justifying to refuse my duty. There is no dust-covered despair from down there and no excuse to be overcome by a beetle,
From my heaven point of view I feel enlightened and the burdens feel light as my heart soars with hope. I can have a brilliant love shining down on that beetle and ant and speck of dust without any personal attachment to fearing them or imagining myself as them.
Shadows have no power to harm or scare, Shadows give clarity for the beauty of the light. Shadows don’t expand to cause expansive or contagious cold fear and cold-hearted freezing inaction or escalating destructive reactions, The purifying heavenly light and warmth help each fulfill its duty with a right perspective.
The sooner I let my thought rise to a heaven perspective, the sooner I am liberated from wasting time and energy in the dust drama. The longer I am lazy scaring myself with mistaken beliefs and ego attachment to them and all its little excuses, the longer I am not actively blessing the world.
Christian Science gives us the heavenly perspective and light of God that blesses beetle, ant, and speck of dust in right relationship to providing fertile soil and living harmony on earth, where each belongs and blesses, unafraid. None are enemies or victims. Each fulfills it’s purpose in right timing and proportion and position with all it needs, basking in the beautifying, nurturing, energizing warmth of Love,
Thank you for the thoughts, Evan and to everyone else for all your thoughts.
Peace and Love,
Devon

Thank you Evan, Angie, and all for this wake-up call!
“Apathy” comes from the Greek, meaning “without feeling.” It seems to me that a right motive to love God supremely and our neighbor as ourselves would effectively prevent, as well as nullify, this claim of error.
I like “Divine Science” in Misc Writings pgs 336-338, especially the poem at the end. Also important is Pg 337:31-338:2.
Also from the Bible Matthew 5:15-16
It is about glorifying God.
Edith, thank you for your beautifully versed comment. The last paragraph, “Christian Science gives us the heavenly perspective and light of God that blesses beetle, ant, and speck of dust in right relationship to providing fertile soil and living harmony on earth, where each belongs and blesses unafraid. None are enemies or victims. Each fulfills in right timing and proportion and position with all it’s needs, basking in the beautifying, nurturing , energizing warmth of Love”.
So worth revisiting this glimpse of heaven throughout my day.
The question posed by Evan today is, Are you taking action?
The most important action we take is turning away from error thoughts and looking higher to see what God is saying to us right NOW. It seems hard to do this humanly when error is loud, but we actually can’t do much of anything as a mortal “self.” God is the doer. We can lean on Him and ask Him to help us turn away from lies to Truth.
“Turn Thou us unto Thee, O Lord, and we shall be turned.” (Lamentations 5:21- in this week’s Bible Lesson)
Sending Love to all here (another good action!)
Just as I wondered how to attack my day, this wonderful reminder came along. Thank you.. And I am so thankful that Christian Science keeps us informed so as not to be unprepared each day. I have learned how to listen better and even to see the forest inspite of the trees sometimes.

Read this recently, and it’s really. hit home. A terrifying wildfire was engulfing the location of her summer home, and the woman couldn’t bear to watch it. The practitioner demanded that she look at it until she saw the face of God!
That took a lot of spiritual seeing, but amazing results when she did!
Thank you for sharing this Sentinel article Diane. Only able to view the opening paragraph but I found a link that can be read by non-subscribers.
