Don’t be timid

April 18, 2025 | 24 comments

“Agree to disagree” with approaching symptoms of chronic or acute disease, whether it is cancer, consumption, or smallpox.  Meet the incipient stages of disease with as powerful mental opposition as a legislator would employ to defeat the passage of an inhuman law.

~ Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 390

If a robber tried to enter your house and steal your goods, you would likely take deliberate steps to prevent his entry.  You would not say, “Sure, come on in and take what you want!”

The same rule applies to protecting the sanctity of our mental home.  When mortal mind comes knocking on the door of thought suggesting that disease is headed our way, it’s best for us to say “No!”  And not just with a little wimpy timid unconvincing assertion of no.  But with a resounding, grand, imperative, rock-solid undeniable conviction and declaration of “NO!  Absolutely NOT!”  And then understand the spiritual reason why.

Don’t be timid with suggestions of disease.  Knock them out promptly.

  1. This is commanding the situation with spiritual understanding; siding with God, the only real power & standing firm in the Truth that man as God’s reflection, is whole, spiritual & perfect. Present tense!

  2. Grateful for this today Evan! Too many times I’ve found myself thinking “Oh no not something else to handle” instead of responding with an immediate vigorous dismissal of NO! An article in the May 8 1971 Sentinel by Corinne B Teeter called “Never plead guilty” perfectly complements today’s SpiritView if someone would be kind enough to post the link. Meanwhile, a blessed Easter to Evan, Kathy and all our worldwide SV family. Love Linda. X.

        1. Oh thank you very much indeed Linda and Cheryl for this so helpful and inspiring article to not feel guilty! It’s explained so metaphysically clear. We are never guilty as God’s very loved, perfect and pure child! ❤️

  3. Thanks Evan. I’ve been feeling very upset lately about the situation in America, even though I don’t live there. This S&H quote is perfect as “chronic symptoms of acute disease” also applies to chronically bad actions by people in “power” as well. I am reminded that, as God’s law is the only true law, we also have the perfect and most powerful legislator and advocate in God, the divine Mind, which knows all and only good. This divine logic has an answer to every problem that humans seem to create. There can be no “passage” or progress in any “inhuman law” as it can have no power at all if not supported by divine Law and DIVINE Principle and divine Love! Evil has NO POWER, no matter what form it appears in. If God did not make it, it is no more powerful than a shadow that is cast and seems to create darkness, but in fact it is only there due to a blockage of light…so we all must keep bringing in the LIGHT!!!

    1. Thank you Diane, I had that same thought. A friend and I were talking about how to think about what’s going on in our beloved country, from a spiritual perspective. She found these three of Evan’s earlier Spirit Views that relate.
      -Don’t Fight. Unite: 5/26/2006
      -Cast a ballot for Unity:11/06/2012

    2. Wow – Paula … It was great reading those former posts and so
wonderful, that the “Truth” of God’s being has been and is being
shared continually through this, most precious blog. In grasping
on to some of these thoughts, Evan had written, ” This God is Love,
omnipresent Good, that serves to bless one and all equally and
abundantly”. No one is left out, if going according to what is right
and Unified in this One Love. Two other thoughts that I took away
from commenters that stood out to me, “I pray that our votes be
cast for Unity, integrity and wisdom” and ” There are no sides to
God. So each is on His side listening”. In a seemingly so divided,
resisting – rather than unifying world, we need to see where we
are placing our priorities … is it in making this a better world for All
or is it honoring a god of evil, hatred, greed, selfishness, abuse,
dishonesty, etc. Unification of Principle, Truth, Spirit, Soul,
Mind, Life and most all, Love … for each other and standing up for
these “resounding, grand, imperative, rock-solid, undeniable
convictions” of Truth is what will unify the world rather than divide it.

  4. Thank you dear Diane W for your wonderful comment, very comforting and so true! Speaking out of my heart, as well! ❤️

  5. There an article in the February 1978 Journal that is titled Vehemence that Heals. Just reread it last night. It fits perfectly with today’s blog. Perhaps someone can link it?

    1. Thank you, Jeff and Sharon (and always Evan, for inspiring these comments).
I have already forwarded the article to several people.

Lately I have been drawn to Hebrews 12: 1, 2
“Wherefore seeing we are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
      I
      Sending “Easter gladness” to everyone.

    2. Thank you dear Jeff and Sharon for that article about Vehenence in denying error. . One can listen to it, and I enjoyed it!

    3. From the referenced article “But in Christian Science treatment one doesn’t admit a discordant condition to be a fact of real being and then project a mental process at it in an effort to heal it. One starts with the eternal perfection of God and of His spiritual idea, man, as the only reality and never loses sight of that premise.”
I remember from class instruction my teacher’s inverted triangle which put God at the top demonstrating His government, power, Love, Truth, etc over everything.

  7. Thank you dear Evan and all for these declarations of Truth. Dear Joyce, your
mentioning of Easter gladness reminds me of Hymn #171,

“Let us sing of Easter gladness That rejoices every day
Sing of hope and faith uplifted; Love has rolled the stone away
Lo, the promise and fulfillment Lo, the man whom God hath made
Seen in glory of an Easter Crowned with light that can not fade …

Living meekly as the Master Who of God was glorified
Looking ever to the radiance Of his wondrous Easter tide
Freed of fear, of pain, and sorrow Giving God the honor due
Every day will be an Easter Filled with benedictions new.”

A Blessed Easter to All … where, like Christmas, Easter is an EveryDay
of continued – without beginning or end – spiritual and divine…
    Eternity’s continuity of Life.

  8. What ever the disease is, you always have the holy spirit and the Lord on your side, and I firmly believe prayer heals.. If it is 3:00 in the morning, your censuses take over. You know your family and friends do not visit at this time in the morning. You grab your weapon and take care of business you protect your family etc. I also believe the Lord will be with you be it in civil or criminal court.

    1. Thank you dear J for this wonderful Easter article.
I must listen to it again tomorrow, so inspiring!

Thank you dear Evan for this helpful toppic up here. Immediately I had the opportunity to apply what you said.

Thank you all for your so loved inspirations!
Happy and blessed Easter to you all, ❤️

  9. When mortal mind comes knocking, we need to give it a resounding, “NO” as Evan
states. Sometimes it is easier to respond with a … “What Now?!” as another issue
to deal with, rather than an opportunity to trust God in all ever-present power.
Thank you for the message, Evan and for all of the comments and articles to
reinforce these declarations of Truth. In the article about Easter (Thank you, J ),
Susan Booth Mack Snipes, writes, ” … eternal, unchanging, ever present Life,
and knowing that Our [daughter’s] health and harmony were [Are] forever
Safe and secure in this unchanging Life, much as sunshine is safe in the sun”.
It is a very good article in describing the true meaning of Easter – not the fictitious
Easter Bunny, Easter egg kind, but the spiritual realization of what life…Life really
is. A re-awakening of the Christ/Spirit. That truly is a blessing for us all.
