The ultimate consciousness

May 23, 2025 | 19 comments

When we realize that Life is Spirit, never in nor of matter, this understanding will expand into self-completeness, finding all in God, good, and needing no other consciousness.

~ Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 264

Go for it!  Go for the ultimate consciousness of Truth that brings total harmony and peace into your life, a realization of Life in Spirit.  It’s where all pain and disease disappear.  It’s where reality with God appears, and all is well.

There isn’t anything else worth knowing.

    1. My mother’s teacher. Hadn’t thought of that name in quite a while. Great article. Thank you. ❣️

    2. Thank you Evan for excellent “conversation starter” and encouraging everyone to “Go for it!” and REALize that life is Spirit and there is only one Mind and therefore we can only be conscious of what the Mind of Spirit knows!

Thank you J for the article. Yesterday you asked this question:
      ——————
When you have a person that wants to make you feel guilty or feel like you are a bad person for not wanting to participate in their dream/nightmare, how can you pray about that?
      ——————
In praying for how I could respond, it first came to me that you can pray to “become conscious” that your friend really isn’t in a state of a dream/nightmare. The following citation came to mind when thinking about this idea. It might be helpful for you to read this citation in context by going to page 530 of S&H and reading the paragraph before and the one in which this citation appears.

The dream has no reality, no intelligence, no mind; therefore the dreamer and dream are one, for neither is true nor real.
(Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy, p. 530:26–29 2nd The)

Once you establish in thought that your friend, is actually God’s manifestation and therefore could never *really* be dreaming a bad dream, it then occurred to me you could spend time reminding yourself that there is just one Mind. As a life long Christian Scientist, I’ve heard that phrase “there is just one Mind” thousands of times. But I have to admit I had never really thought deeply about what that means until about 5 years ago. My mother chose me to be her healthcare proxy and that was made more difficult because I lived 1400 miles from my mother. So I had to try and manage the care she was getting via phone calls with the workers in the facility she was in (I spent about a month there before I eventually had to go home). Even though my mom picked me to be her healthcare proxy, another family member kept calling the facility and making demands of the workers and that was causing problems. One day when praying about what to do about this situation I read the answer to the question “What is Mind?” from page 469 of S&H and I really “became conscious” of the FACT that there is only one Mind. That truth became 100% real to me and all worry about how to deal with this family member just dissolved. I could actually feel my whole body just relax when I “became conscious” that there is just one Mind and therefore I didn’t have to worry about another mind interfering with my efforts to advocate for the best care for my mom. And from that point, there were no more issues with my family member. I never had to say a word to them. Just knowing the truth that there is one Mind and therefore there is no other mind to deal with, resolved the situation harmoniously (the dream and the dreamer ceased to appear real!).

Every situation is different and what I’ve shared above may not be how you need to pray in your situation. But I just thought I’d share this in case it is helpful.

      1. Thank you so much, RobertH, for sharing your insights and your experience. I am also dealing with a family member. I really appreciate your comments, as they are very, very helpful to me! Thank you again.

    3. Dear J. Thank you so much for this link I’m looking forward to reading it over the weekend.
Regarding your question yesterday… the first thought that has come to me is that however you pray about this , always remember that the thought that comes from DIVINE MIND and not any agro from a confrontational mortal one , IS THE ONLY LAW , the only power and your protection .
      Much love. B.xx

  1. Wonderful message, photo and thoughts, dear Evan and J (in the article). Thank you!
In looking up the sections in the Manual yesterday and flipping around reading it, I
came across something that I had tucked away in this little book, years ago. It is
rather long, but would like to share, as it covers pretty much everything in being in
    “the ultimate consciousness”.
It is called The Litany of the Shepherd and written by Walter Day:

“There is nothing to fear … “The Lord is my shepherd”
There is no need … “I shall not want”
There is no worry or tension … “He maketh me to lie down in green pastures”
There is no sickness … “He restoreth my soul”
No injustice … “He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake”
No lack of understanding … “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow
of death, I will fear no evil”
There is no loneliness … “For thou art with me”
No weakness nor uncertainty … “Thy rod and thy staff they comfort me”
There is no insecurity … “Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of
    mine enemies”
No unhappiness … “Thou anointeth my head with oil”
Nothing is incomplete … “My cup runneth over”
There is no limitation … “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life”
There is no death … “And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever”.

I’m not sure who Walter Day was/is, but thought his understanding/interpretation of this
beautiful psalm was lovely to share.

    1. Hi Carol. This is so beautiful and so well put. I’m going to write it out by hand as a keeper . By hand because it’s a slower process and I will cherish every word….thank you for sharing .B.xx

    2. What Walter Day has written is in line with Christianity, so it is fine, as far as I can see.
I looked him up, and this is what I found out about him: It is interesting, and useful to know about him,
      I think.
:This article examines the life of Walter Day, a key figure in the history of competitive video gaming and whose involvement in this industry has been connected to his own spiritual beliefs and directions. Here, the influence of Day, the former owner of Twin Galaxies and creator of the first International Scoreboard, will be presented by examining the history of his life. A pivotal religious experience of Day, while under the influence of LSD in the 1960s, will be shown to have directly informed his decision to join the Eastern influenced new religious movement of Transcendental Meditation under the stewardship of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi which gave him the tools and direction that would be essential for his video gaming career. The training that the Maharishi would provide to Day will be explored and shown to have informed his understanding of religious experiences, or flow states, and how this could manifest with a player of a classic video game at an arcade. This understanding will be shown to have interested Day enough not only to endeavour to be the first video game pilgrim, but for him to continue a lifelong pilgrimage of recording and sharing oral history of players who reach their full potential.

    3. Thank you, dear Lori and BarbaraUK for your comments and for
      yours also, dear Maggie.
I had, also, briefly looked up who Walter Day was and saw about the gaming
connection with him, but did not think he was the same person and didn’t
go more into depth of his background, so thank you for that revelation, if it
      is the same person.
The copy of paper that I had taken it from was on an actual carbon copy
from a typewriter, so it was years ago and don’t remember who had sent
it to me, altho it was on letterhead on the other side from someone I knew
when I was in high school, so that was many years ago and didn’t think
the gentleman’s bio on gaming was relevant, but maybe it is the same
person. At any rate, I thought the message was interesting and helpful,
even if the messenger may be questionable.

      1. Yes, dear Carol, the message is very good that he gives, and we know that Walter
Day is also God’s perfect idea and speaks to him also. Of course, as you say, we don’t
know for certain that it is the same man, but I didn’t see any others mentioned.. As students of Christian Science, we feel when something is right and when it is not,
and this certainly feels right to me.

  2. Thank you Evan! Your “Go for it” is vibrant with energy, so inspiring.
I have found it helpful to add “Divine Energy” whenever I read the word Spirit and it has refreshed the aspect of Spirit being active, everywhere, like radio waves that surround all of us but are not seen, always ready to be received.

  3. Thank you for helping me to understand Christian Science If it wasn’t for your emails, I would be having a much harder time learning the language and philosophy of Christian Science The church where I attend does not offer introductory training of mentoring. Even the Catholic Church gives you a series of classes when you enter or return.
I am a fairly bright person; two psychology degrees, an art degree and a mind which excels in abstract thought….But, in the church where I have been attending; they just sell you the book and that’s it!!!

I read it… but it doesn’t give me the visceral awareness of the culture and familiarity with Christian Science and its language.

The Christian Science church should offer a class or mentoring for newcomers.

So, I’m extremely Grateful for you because you are teaching me application and helping me to become familiar with the intent of the Christian Science philosophy and theology
    Thank you

    1. Hi Laura, so glad to hear that you’re studying CS and endeavoring to gain a greater understanding of it. A few things I thought of that might assist you:

Studying the weekly Bible Lesson, attending Wednesday testimony meetings/listening to the Mother Church Wednesday testimony meeting on christianscience.com, reading articles in the CS Journal and Sentinel (many are shared here on Spiritview), listening to the many videos of CS lectures on youtube and elsewhere, going to your local reading room and talking with the attendants there and asking them any questions you may have…and of course, as you’ve already recognized, being active here on SV with this wonderful caring family of spiritual thinkers under Evan’s wise guidance.

Also, as WSM states below, there is Christian Science Class Instruction, when and if you feel ready. Here’s a link to the page on christianscience.com that has more info about it.

You’re on the right track, the God track.
