If you want to end up in a good place, trust spiritual sense to get you there!
Too often, we listen to material sense and end up misguided, for material sense is quick to draw conclusions according to physical evidence that takes in limited options.
Material sense may argue for disease and tell us we have no choice but to feel ill. It may argue for pain and tell us we have no choice but to suffer. It may argue for lack and want us to believe we don’t have enough.
Material sense is limited by nature, for its scope of possibilities lies only within the realm of matter. It has no sense of what is possible with God in the realm of infinite Mind.
So, to make wise decisions, be sure you’re listening to spiritual sense, and not to material sense!
Mary Baker Eddy reminds us, “Material sense does not unfold the facts of existence; but spiritual sense lifts human consciousness into eternal Truth” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 95).
Truth is your Savior from the limited perspective of material sense.
If you want to know the truth about your situation, consult spiritual sense. It will lead you to health, freedom and abundance.
These words have so uplifted me this morning Evan…thank you so much. I feel I shouldn’t need to be reminded of such fundamental truth as often , but I actually feel an almost physical lift here each day. It’s just like reigniting the fire of determination to understand and live the Life of Gods making.
I was watching a programme about a new paper product being available ( I love making cards ) with a host of colours being available. When questioned about black and white , the presenter said ‘’ we have various shades of white but just remember everyone that black is simply a LACK of colour !’’
I immediately thought ‘’ Yes, and M M is simply the lack of my spiritual sense of everything !’…. So maybe I’m becoming more readily aware that spiritual sense is there for the taking. Every iota of Truth and Love I’m conscious of I pray will be felt by any receptive person world wide….❣️
Here’s a short audio of Rosalind Fogg CSB describing how she used spiritual sense to realize what she was doing wrong when praying for her son.

This is so helpful Robert as one of my sons ( not CS ) is struggling with many health issues. Thank you so much for the link.. B.x
Thank you!
Thank you, Evan. And thank you, RobertH, for sharing this very helpful audio.
Yes, thank you Robert. A beautiful and powerful healing. Reminds me of the lecture Beginning Rightly by Daniel Jensen, CSB. Not trying to make sick matter well, but affirming what is already true.
Thank you. ❣️
Robert, thank you for sharing Rosalind Fogg’s audio! I have bookmarked that as a favorite!
Thank you Evan. A very powerful audio from Rosalind Fog…thank you RobertH for sharing it.
I’m glad you all liked this audio chat. I’ve listened to it literally 20-25 times since I found it a week or two ago and I get something new out of it each time.
There was a teacher/practitioner of CS named Ralph Wagers. He was an editor of the CS publications back in the 1960s. If you google “Ralph Wagers” “Chestnut Hill” you can find a talk he gave. In the talk he mentioned spending time investigating why healings in CS weren’t happening as easily in the 1950’s/1960’s as they were in the earlier part of the 20th century. He seems to conclude it’s because Christian Scientists have taken the attitude that discord is “real” and CS can be used to “change” something bad to something good. Instead, in the early days of CS people realized that discord was unreal since God is good and the cause/source of all being. Rosalind seems to have come to this same conclusion and healing was the result.
Now days with 911 (999 in the U.K.), emergency medicine, helicopter ambulances, etc., etc., we can easily be conditioned to believe that error is real and it takes effort on our part , or someone else’s part, to “fix” it. How much better to realize error is an illusion that isn’t real and therefore doesn’t need fixing. We only need to accept the truth of God as the only cause and that harmony is already present and the only reality. There is nothing to fix.
Thank you, RobertH. This link MIGHT work. I appreciate you pointing us to this address. I have often wondered about the healings that were brought about in the early days of CS in comparison to today’s.

My grandmother from Wisconsin occasionally called on Mr. Wagers as a practitioner. Grandma was a very down to earth, sensible kind of woman. “I don’t need any romantic gifts,” said Grandma once. “Just get me a good can opener.” Another time she said to me, “I don’t know about these people who need to go find themselves. Paul is Paul (my grandfather) and Julia is Julia (herself).” I decided I should hide my C.S. pamphlet with the title something like “Who am I?” as I was trying to figure out who I was.
One day she called Mr. Wagers about a situation she was concerned about. “Rejoice!” she said Wagers told her. And hung up. “Rejoice?” Grandma sputtered all day. “How can I rejoice with this problem?” But she decided, she told me, she had better do what he said. Grandma didn’t tell me how she rejoiced that day, but Grandma was a simple woman and a hard worker. If Grandma made up her mind to rejoice, she could do it. She said the problem was resolved after she rejoiced. Grandma was impressed.
Great story. Thanks for sharing Lindajane!
You are welcome. Thank you for your contributions and efforts here. It makes it lively.
RobertH, in the address you have shared, Mr. Wagers refers to a December 1957 Journal article that he authored. Here is a link:

Thank you Cheryl. I look forward to reading this tonight!!!
Thank you Robert H for this address, and other gems on your journey that you share, e.g. Fogg audio, which dispels fog, a lot of it.
Indeed, there is nothing to fix.
I recall reading something attributed to Bicknell Young, student of Edward A. Kimball’s 1901 Normal class. He was purported to have said, “Handle false beliefs only.”
Thank you so very much, Robert for the Ralph Wagers talk – and thank you Cheryl for the link. It is very long and I have only read a fraction of it, but it is so very very helpful just as far as I have read it. So beautifully and clearly explained.
Maggie, it IS very long! I copied it to a Word doc so I could enlarge the font. It comes to 24 printed pages and is easier to read and make notes. I am so grateful for the information Mr. Wagers presented. It is very helpful. (Thank you, Evan, for providing this loving platform.)
i copied it to a Word doc also, Cheryl, and read it on m desktop so that I can enlarge it
I can go back and read a bit at a time and
think about a bit at a time.It is a helpful way for me.
In extending the understanding of lesson on Man this week, I did a search on Man articles on JSH. One of them in particular stood out on what Evan’s Spiritview message pointed out on spiritual sense vs. material sense and healing.
The article is on the coexistence of God and man and thus man’s perfection. We’re not trying to heal God the author pointed out. So we don’t have to heal man of a physical conditions. Here’s the words that were arresting:
” The Christian Science healer does not pray to heal and correct an imperfect physical system but to recognize God’s perfect idea in place of the troubled mortal. The lessening of belief that man is mortal initiates the healing. The spiritual realization of man as divine idea concludes the healing.
Understanding the coexistence of God and His idea, we would no more try to heal man than we would try to heal God. Christian Science shows us how to deny the claim that man is faulty, and to affirm the flawlessness of man as God’s coexistent idea.
To get a clearer sense of God is at the same time to gain a sharper view of man. It’s to get a deeper conviction of man’s completeness. We could no more add something to God’s whole man than we could add something to self-existent God. And since nothing can be taken away from God, nothing can be subtracted from man. Nothing needs to be. Claims of disease and lack never had a place in God or man and—scientifically speaking—do not have to be removed from either. ”

Thank you J. Great article!❣️
Just beautiful, thank you for sharing this message that immediately gets us tuned into the Truth ❤️
In the Bible Jesus told the parable of sweeping a house clean of demons, but then leaving it empty. More demons came in that were worse than before. The empty house could be looked at as a consciousness not filled with spiritual sense. We do reject (sweep the house clean) of a finite sense of good, (like rejecting that we live on a flat earth and the ocean falls off) but then we have to know why we are safe. In keeping our focus on God, (the never ending sphere of an ocean of purity, Love etc.) is to fill our “house” with God’s promise and assurance of the unlimited goodness of Truth. Rosalind Fogg’s spiritual message from God of the infinity of purity made her understand that contamination was impossible for her to believe and her child to experience since purity was the only reality. With this spiritual sense, it won’t matter if people are on the beach afraid to get in a boat because of a flat earth. We can fearlessly set out by God telling us the truth that there is a spiritual sphere of purity and grace will take us “to our desired harbor”.
Thank you Evan and to all those who comment and share. These have helped me so much! With love and gratitude.
Thank you everyone for your wonderfully inspiring
comments, and articles.
Many thanks to RobertH, Cheryl and LIndaJane for the articles, which I look forward to reading. And I also appreciate the lively discussion. 🙂
Interesting point RobertH about healings and healthcare. I find it kind of ironic that there are many medical advances that weren’t around years ago; however, many non-CS friends are finding doctor appointments (especially those in specialized medicine in the U.S.) very hard to get…sometimes taking many months/up to a year before they can get in to see a doctor.
Yes, the news media (and movies and TV) makes one think medical science is miraculous but the reality doesn’t live up to the hype I don’t believe. When my parents decided to move to a seniors apartment, I got the job of disposing of everything thing left in their 4 bedroom house. I engaged a company to hold an estate sale. The company was owned by an ex-medical nurse and she employed other retired medical nurses. One day on a lunch break I overheard them all talking about their chronic knee, back, hip, etc. pain and what alternative types of treatment they were trying because traditional medical treatments had not helped them. I should have purchased a bunch of S&H books and passed them out the next day but I was afraid they wouldn’t be receptive. My mistake. 🙁
A fascinating topic and very interesting on your experience. Thanks for sharing it RobertH.
