Eliminating doubt

September 19, 2025 | 15 comments

If you ever find yourself fighting doubt and darkness about some important issue in your life, there’s a way to turn that sensation around and start acting with confidence and inspiration.

Mary Baker Eddy gives us useful guidance on how to do this when she writes, “Darkness and doubt encompass thought, so long as it bases creation on materiality” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 551).

To conquer doubt, reason out from spirituality.  See what God sees.  Know what God knows.

There is not a doubt in the Mind of God about anything.  God knows Truth, acts on Truth, and lives out Truth.  When we do the same, we act with confidence and understanding too.  We see answers.  We perceive solutions.  We know what to do that brings good results.  There is no more doubt.

Seek the Light of Truth and leave doubt behind.

  1. Thank you, Evan. As for the various forms of chemicalization that are coming to the surface in the world, prayer is the healing activity that will bring to light the spiritual truths necessary for healing. As Christian Scientists, we have our work and our duty cut out for us.

  2. I have no “doubt” that we all possess and reflect the One Mind of God. We cannot help it and cannot do anything to make it so or not so, it is built in to our nature. So we can have the expectancy of seeing Good today and every day. Thanks Evan and all.

  3. Thank you, Evan. I immediately thought of hymn 39 (459 in the gray hymnal – with a few word changes)

    Come gracious Spirit, heavenly Love,
    With light and comfort from above;
    Be thou our guardian Thou our guide,
    O’er every thought and step preside.

    The light of Truth to us display,
    That we may know and chose Thy way;
    Plant holy joy in every heart,
    That we from Thee may ne’er depart.

    Lead us, O Christ, thou living Way,
    Nor let us from Thy precepts stray;
    Lead us to God, our heavenly rest,
    That we may be forever blest,
    Forever blest.

    With love

    1. Your contribution is excellent. Loved reading the guidance which you received, how it came to you, and your acceptance to “read each day from the BIble and Science and health”. Losing you Dad, being married to an active duty soldier, both paralleled my experience. Now is the moment to come “out of the fog of doubt”, with LOVE.

  4. All of these thoughts are so very helpful. Appreciation for them all. What appears
    to be doubt and troubled thinking about our own or worldly events Seem so
    extreme these days where turmoil seems to cloud an otherwise sun-filled day,
    I believe it is, as Bob Minnocci states above, that a chemicalization, a stirring
    up of mortal beliefs and as Mrs. Eddy terms chemicalization as being, “the upheaval
    produced when immortal Truth is destroying erroneous mortal belief. Mental
    chemicalization brings sin and sickness to the surface, forcing impurities to pass
    away, as is the case with a fermenting fluid”. (Science and Health pg.401)
    This seeming darkness (doubt or fear), trying to hide the truth of our own or
    collective well being, dissipates when we rise above what appears to be … and
    with clarity see the spiritual view of things.

  5. Thank you so much for the added articles..
    the chime of innocence, rhymes with Loving Sense

    I was reading John B…. 2023, when Jesus called the Rabbi’s murderers..
    it went on .to where I gleaned in thought….if we weren’t ….aware that Christ is Life ..
    the living God.. we are murdering ourselves..
    ..that this is not direct quote, John….but
    it helps see, how as ‘learning’ from ‘cultural history’ the history of mortality…
    Maybe …Boom rhymes with .. Doom….. but Know what we See when we are Awake.
    Loving Sense.. thank you all seekers and Evan, for the key to the Door..of
    Wonderful

  6. Well said Evan. Uplifting Truth.
    ‘’Know, O child, thy full salvation;
Rise o’er sin and fear and care;

    Joy to find, in every station,
Something still to do, or bear.
    Think what spirit dwells within thee;
Think what Father’s smiles are thine;

    Think what Jesus did to win thee;
Child of heaven, can’st thou repine?
    Haste thee on from grace to glory,
Armed with faith and winged with prayer;

Heaven’s eternal day before thee,
God’s own hand shall guide thee there.
    So fulfill thy holy mission,
Swift shall pass thy pilgrim-days,

Hope shall change to glad fruition,
Faith to sight and prayer to praise.’’
    Hymn 167
    There’s no doubt in these words…❣️
