Exercising dominion

November 10, 2025 | 22 comments

Do you ever feel like the world around you is affecting your state of mind, how you feel, your health, finances, or anything else?

Perhaps you’re upset with the actions of politicians.  Maybe you fear what the economy is going to do.  Maybe you fret over the actions of family members or neighbors.  If so, it’s time to exercise your God-given dominion to live free of feeling pressure from external sources.

As children of God, we are not products of the world.  We are creations of divine Mind.

It’s not what other people think and do that should be forming our experience.  It’s what God is doing for us that should be the determining factor.  And God gives us dominion to think clearly, stay healthy, and live happily.

Jesus Christ said, “The kingdom of God is within you” (Luke 7:21).  The kingdom is all of God’s goodness.  You already possess it.  Life is your opportunity to live it out and prove it.

What you have within is not controlled by events and people around you.  No one can stop you from being wise, from acting with love and compassion, having peace of mind, from making intelligent decisions, and expressing joy and gratitude.  What you are spiritually is not controlled by what appears to be happening materially.

Mary Baker Eddy reminds us, “Man, created by God, was given dominion over the whole earth” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 545).  This includes dominion over everything that appears to be happening around you on earth.

Be wise.  Don’t play the role of victim.  Exercise your God-given dominion to stay on top of evil suggestions coming your way.  Stay spiritually minded, know God in control, side with Truth and Love, and remain healthy in mind and body.  It’s the happier way to live.

  1. Father-Mother help me to exercise dominom, over my thoughts and see spititually what you are seeing and know what you are knowining.
    Take fear completelyfor me.
Help me to know only one Mind.

  2. Thanks Evan for this very thoughtful post. It reminds me of last lines of Hymn 382
Thou has the gift of God-
    Dominion over all.

    1. Thanks for the reference to those powerful lines from hymn 382 Himanshu.

The third verse is also great:
      Vain dreams shall disappear, as truth dawns on the sight;
The phantoms of thy fear, shall flee before the light.

I like knowing that fears are phantoms, apparitions, something that seems to be there but is not real.

As Evan said, -What we are spiritually is not controlled (affected, impacted), by what APPEARS to be happening materially. We are creations of the one Divine Mind.

  3. Spiritual dominion is our right of way, our gift from God, so we need to own it and put it into practice.

    Thank you SV!!!!

    1. Thank you for today’s SV Evan, and thank you Linda for your comment which led my thought to Hy 146, which says in part;

In God I find a precious gift
That knows no fear, no feud,
That glows so still, serene and pure:
      The gift of gratitude.

It brightens all the paths of earth,
      Reflecting Truth and right,
      For gratitude doth steadfastly
      Abide in heavenly light.

I love walking on country roads, very grateful for the “Right to Roam” enjoying peace and the miles of opportunity for quiet contemplation ♡

  4. ….and Himanshu, thank YOU for referencing Hymn 382 and it’s concluding verse: Thou hast the gift of God, Dominion over all!

    What a gift!

  5. Having Spiritual dominion empowers us spiritually which in turn, unfolds our every thought action and movement towards the only good, that of God.

Thank you Evan! Spirit View is another incredible addition to the morning’s richness!

  6. Dominion is the power, authority and mastery over everything, which God gives us.
Genesis 1:26 – “And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over…..all the earth.”

I heard someone once say in a testimony, talking about a time she encountered rough turbulence on an airplane. She affirmed that we are subordinate only to God, and everything else in our surroundings is subordinate to us. And the turbulence calmed.

  7. Thank you all and thank you, Evan. I have kept the idea of dominion gently running through my thought all day and what a special walk with God it has been.

  9. Oh. an orthographic mistake:

In the fourth line I wanted to say:

  10. Thank you so much, Evan! This message is just what I needed, and very timely! I will be referring back to it and working with it to help me overcome a health fear that grew even stronger in me yesterday. “…the Truth will set you free.”! Much gratitude for this message today!
