Wealth consists not in having great possessions, but in having few wants.
~ Epictetus
Jesus Christ had few material possessions, perhaps none, except the garment he wore. Yet he was incredibly wealthy. He always had what he needed when he needed it. He was a man of no wants.
And even more, his understanding of true wealth empowered him to help others find a hint of real wealth too when he healed them of disease and fed the hungry multitudes.
Wealth isn’t material. It’s spiritual. It’s an understanding of reality with God where there are no wants. Just infinite blessings of Love.
Thank you so much, Evan for this inspiration. This from Science and Health comes to thought: 340:12: “Divine Love is infinite. Therefore all that really exists is in and of God, and manifests His love.”
True wealth is substance and substance is God’s presence..The good news is that God is always present!
Evan, I love where you say, Jesus helped others to find a HINT of their own wealth. When man has
been suffering from bad health for some time, or feeling lack of essentials such as food and drink,
and Jesus demonstrates that he can turn this sad picture around and awaken in him to this rue health and supply . Then man begins to recognises the true value of these necessities and where they come from. So
he is beginning to realise how much he needs God. He is learning about God as his loving Father-Mother ever-present to meet all his needs.
God gives all, and man has all that God gives, which is abundant good. That is the true wealth to cherish..
It says in John that Jesus had a fine garment, that was seamless, therefore woven, and the soldiers cast lots for it rather than tear it as was the usual practice. So what he did have is chronicled as to have reflected wholeness and no sense of lack. Thank you, Evan!
I wrote. a poem, DIVINW CURRENCY,
saying, the more we live divine qualities,
the wealthier we are in Spirit.
We need to spend, love, joy, pease,
honesty, all that reflects God, to find
true and lasting spiritual wealth.
Happy spending.
I love this!
Sorry. The world needs us to spend, give
out the divine currency of peace.
Love the thought of having few wants. That resonates so deeply, especially in light of how easy it is to confuse wants with needs
Jesus sent out his disciples without money and possessions. He also didn’t charge people he healed. Are we following his teaching there?
Although Jesus and the disciples may not have asked for money in return for their healing works, they did depend on people to give them food and let them stay in their homes. And Luke 8 explains that there were women that provided financial support to allow Jesus to minister to others without asking for payment. I suspect others did the same.
Luke 8 1-3 (NIV): 1 After this, Jesus traveled about from one town and village to another, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom of God. The Twelve were with him, 2 and also some women who had been cured of evil spirits and diseases: Mary (called Magdalene) from whom seven demons had come out; 3 Joanna the wife of Chuza, the manager of Herod’s household; Susanna; and many others. These women were helping to support them out of their own means.
“The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.” Ps 23: 1
Thanks for this timely reminder of true wealth.
Hi Nicky, I thought also at this one truth sentence from the Bible. Mrs. Eddy says “divine Love is my shepherd, I shall not want”, and I always ad the following words: “… I have already everything I need from my shepherd”. I would also like to affirm, that we are the rich children of an overrich Father-Mother God!♡
Thank you very much Evan for today’s and yesterday’s so timely spiritual views. And I’m always very grateful for the inspiring comments and links to articles!♡
In thinking about Evan’s message today, it occurred to me that Jesus must have understood God, and his inseparability from God, and that understanding was manifested in Jesus’ human life in many ways…including perfect supply. And just like Jesus, we each have a spiritual identity, the manifestation of God, or Christ, to express. I read an article this morning that brings out this truth beautifully.

Thank you RobertH for this article which explains some very important and essential ideas for us to understand and practice.
This article clarified so much for me, Robert, thank you. I’ve read a few more of Mr. Hastie’s articles, too and all are so clearly stated. Thank you, Evan and all contributing today.

The Spirit has only one answer to all questions, only one solution to all problems.
Is it possible to ask?
You can take it as it is, for it is already given to you. But the burden of guilt, created by you over centuries, prevents you from claiming what is yours. So you can ask, yet asking alone will accomplish nothing from a distance. And if you are a stranger in your own eyes, not a child of God, you will forbid yourself the readiness to receive. Still, remember, no request goes unanswered, for everything has already been given to you. And all that is needed is to cancel the system of the ego. In the Divine order, there is no place for requests, since there is nothing lacking. There is only God. Everything else is delusions of the mind, painting false pictures of pain and decay. See the reality of God. His beloved Son bathes in the love of the Father. There is no refusal in anything. He is endowed with gifts, and his life is full of wonders and the Glory of God. He lacks nothing; he is the Son of God. So open the doors of your mind, letting the Holy Spirit in. That part of you that is united with me longs to be recognized. And this recognition will help reveal everything that you truly desire. So remember and acknowledge your divine nature, and with it will manifest all the grace that has already been given to you.
Thank you for the translation!
Thank you, Алиса – beautifully put.
And thank you, RobertH for giving us the translation.
“Infinite blessings of Love” … Am Loving that! Today’s message really brings
out what we are so grateful for. It isn’t the matter “things” that make us wealthy
but the spiritual. This helps us realize all of the wonderful aspects of life that
give us the Love we cherish and need. The comfort of being, the warmth of
loveliness, the appreciation of belonging, the kindness we feel and express,
the soul of understanding … so many ways to be grateful for what we have,
like Jesus shared with us, the wealth of the Spirit. He had said, “Take no thought
for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink”,.. “recognizing God, the
Father/Mother of all, as able to feed and clothe man as He doth the lilies” (MBE).
Even when the lilies seem to be buried in snow, or hidden from view, they are
still protected and although dormant, still expressing the awakening of Spring’s
delightful emergence. So, too, is the peace that is always with us, even if there
appears to be lack. Love’s blessings surround us with the wealth of Spirit.
I was asked at one time did I feel I could run out of qualities, ie could I forgive more, love more be more orderly, etc. my complaint was that I was running out of money. I actually felt I had maxed out on my expression of qualities. I felt I was the most loving I could be, that I had forgiven as much as I could,, etc. The response back to me was I can’t run out of qualities therefore I can’t run out of supply. my situation changed for the better. whenever I feel a sense of lack I ask myself what qualities do I need to express more of. and the supply shows up on meaningful ways.
What a lovely working out, md – Thank you for sharing. A really inspiring though that
we can’t run out of God’s qualities to express – and interesting to see how that solved
your problems.
I love this idea that if we think we lack something, we need to SPEND, or as md stated to express more of whatever qualities God tells us to. From Hymn 58:
Share Thy joy and spend it freely
Thank you RobertH for sharing your excellent article, it ties in so well with this week’s lesson on Christ Jesus.
Also thank you Алиса for sharing today your comments and Robert for translating!!
What wonderful sharing today.
