Where there’s no fear, there’s no pain. Where there is Love, there is no fear.
A beautiful circle of thought to start the day! Thank you Evan❣️
Love the picture – Love in action for every creature that God has made, and He made
every one of us, every creature, and everything that truly exists. There is no fear and no
pain that can exist when Love is in operation, which is always.
Thank you Evan, a very inspiring start to the day.
In her poem, “Mother’s Evening Prayer” Mrs Eddy says,
“Love is our refuge; only with mine eye
Can I behold the snare, the pit, the fall:
His habitation high is here, and nigh,
His arm encircles me, and mine, and all.”
The snare of fear can feel very persuasive. Yet by holding on to the truth of Love’s ever presence, we are lifted out of mesmerising error and into those comforting, encircling, arms.
Thank you Evan and all. This made me think of the first verse of Mrs. Eddy’s poem Christ My Refuge. The final version of that poem is below. But I recently found an earlier version that was published in the June 1883 Journal. It was interesting for me to compare the two versions to see how Mrs. Eddy changed it. That is a truly remarkable find, RobertH. I had never seen
that version before and it is comforting to see the revised
version that is so endearing to us today which flows into our
hearts with the warmth of the gentle hug like with the penguins
above. “Where there is love, there is no fear” and the
sweet photo above, reminds me of a documentary I had
once seen where, as I recall, penguin chicks can pick out
their parents out of the many, many in their flock. God’s
Love provides, protects, cherishes and comforts each of
us, even in the animal kingdom, when we are led by the
offering pure of Love, and isn’t that really – where we love to be.
So interesting RobertH. Didn’t even know there was an earlier version. Great find, and thanks for sharing it with us.
An absolutely adorable photo. Love, as the expression of God, manifesting. There are so many examples of Love manifesting everywhere, – if we only remember that we have the eyes to see it, and experience the accompanying good,

I agree that the final version is purer. It also shows the progress Mrs. Eddy made in her thinking while dealing with the temptation of personal sense with her second marriage and later her disaffected students.
I love her grace in writing about her second marriage:
“My second marriage was very unfortunate, and from it I was compelled to ask for a bill of divorce, which was granted me in the city of Salem, Massachusetts”.

Also, regarding an unfulfilled visit from a disaffected student:
“Oh! What a benediction of love she would have received! It would have saved and comforted her!” (We Knew Mary Baker Eddy, Volume 2, Clara M.S. Shannon, page 213)
Her understanding of God as Love, I am sure lifted her out of that temptation and allowed her to write:
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,” but the Scriptures also declare, through the exalted thought of John, that “perfect Love casteth out fear.”

P.s. Always like to look at SV from the perspective of someone who might be new to SV and Christian Science, so here are some definitions of a couple words from this article:
Divine Science – truth or knowledge of God, an understanding of spiritual reality. We live in the universe of Mind, set for all eternity.
Comforter – “Jesus demonstrated Christ; he proved that Christ is the divine idea of God – Holy Ghost, or Comforter, revealing the divine Principle, Love, and leading into all truth.” (Science & Health by Mary Baker Eddy. p. 332)
