If so, why?
Are you getting upset because of the job, or because you have a bad attitude in the first place that needs to be improved?
A man was sharing with me how he conquered, in a degree, the temptation to get upset about certain jobs he needed to do but didn’t want to do.
While grousing in the garden one day pulling weeds, his least favorite job, he thought of himself in a higher way. Not as a mortal bending over the soil and toiling in the sun, but as a reflection of God radiating truth and love.
As a reflection of divine Love, there were spiritual thoughts of God to entertain, understand better and reflect outwardly. Action was not a matter of what he was doing with his hands, but what he was doing with his mind.
The weeding of dirt suddenly became a weeding of consciousness.
The anger and tension dissolved. Mental buoyancy and delight took over.
He kept weeding, but wasn’t dwelling on the job at hand anymore. He was thinking more spiritually enlightened thoughts. He felt so much better, the weeding project was finished, and he had a clean garden to rejoice over.
When you’re asked to do a job you don’t want to do, find the higher purpose.
Success is not about the job, it’s about your attitude and perspective while doing the job. Put selfishness aside and let Truth take over. You’ll have a much happier experience, and you’ll be a better person for it.
“You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. ‘For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.’” II Cor 9:7, NLT
Every job that one does is important for it benefits some one. That’s the attitude to take. No matter how menial the work, having that attitude makes that work enjoyable.
Enjoyed this post, and Tobias’ comment as well.
