A perspective to consider

April 18, 2019 | 27 comments

To one struggling with remorse about past unhappy events in her life, the question was posed, “When you pass on and leave this earth behind, what is going to matter to you?”

And the reply that followed was, “Only what lies ahead of you.”

We’re living our eternal spiritual life now. The past doesn’t govern the present, and it’s all good coming our way.

Are you looking at what lies in front of you?

  1. Looking at what lies in front of you sure saves a lot of time of rumination and rehearsing over past events. Thank you Evan for your self-less love towards all. And thank you to all the commentators every weekday.

  2. The Bible Lesson Explanatory Note by Mrs. Eddy says the Bible texts are applicable to all ages, past, present, and future. Lately I’ve been applying ideas from the Lessons to events in my past human life to put some things to rest, knowing I’m already living an eternal life. Thanks for your thoughts today.

  3. All these daily messages shared with us are the very best every single day!! Thank you all! So motivating to take the needed action for beautiful demonstrations!! Evan, thank you, thank you!!
    Grateful beyond words!

  4. Karen, thanks for sharing that very helpful article.
My mother passed on before I was ever able to establish a loving relationship with her. I don’t know what is to come in the later life, but I have been living this one being extremely grateful for all the love I received as a child from other family members and throughout my life. I include my mother in my daily prayers knowing all is well.
I am so deeply grateful for Christian Science which has taught me that God loves me, always has, and always will. What a blessing!!!
Thanks, Evan, for all your love and inspiration.

    1. Thank you all for your kind comments. I’m so glad this wonderful article is helping. The author writes,
“What seems to human belief to be the past is a present belief going on now. Our present thought of the past can be corrected right now,”

This was a most important revelation to me and I’ll share something with you Lori, that although it differs from your experience, may help.
At one time I was selfish, self-centered and self-absorbed and was not supportive of my mom during a difficult time. I deeply regretted how I had acted but felt it was too late to truly make amends. My mom was still loving and kind but I suffered such remorse and was ashamed of myself for not living up to who God had made me to be.. I had let my mom down but I had let myself down even more . To say I was sorry seemed grossly inadequate, and for many years I longed to be given a second chance to do better. I didn’t understand then that my desire was my prayer. And then the time came when my mom once again needed support. I had the opportunity to welcome her into my home and with the help of my dear husband I was able to lovingly care for her the last years of her life. I never thought at the time that this was the answer that I had prayed for, but after she passed a gentle angel thought said, “This was your second chance, The debt has been paid.”
I knew then that this had been the Father’s provision for me to have another opportunity to do better and I was incredibly grateful! What I learned is that it is never too late for God to redeem the past for us and provide an opportunity for us to receive any good we feel we missed out on. Is it ever too late for God? Never. So don’t give up! It’s never too late to find the relationship with your mom that has eluded you. You don’t have to know exactly how Love will do it., just that it will. God will never allow you to be deprived of a single opportunity to feel His love as a mother’s love. Now is your time. Hugs.

  5. Thank you…. very important and necessary, providing freedom and joyful expectancy of good, which actually has always been the case.

  6. Thank you Evan for starting off this conversation, and Karen for the reference to that excellent Journal article ~~ perfect for sharing with folks in Jail looking to outgrow a disastrous past and move forward freely in their journey.

  7. Thank You Evan and Karen for sharing thoughts on our true reality consists only of all of God’s goodness now. Very helpful to know whatever unlike God are false thoughts and false experience that have no bearing on God’s Infinite goodness and our eternally Oneness to our blessed status and blessings showering on us now. Life is good and Man has no mortal history, period.

    1. Thank you Pauline, I love your last line. “Life is [God] good and man has no mortal history, period.”

      1. Once we realised Divine Mind does not create dreams, only manifestation and Reality of perfection and goodness; we can clearly see whatever unGodlike, unloving and awful is only a negative suggestion or a false drama with our loved ones playing out good guys and bad guys that no longer has any influence on us to belief it is threatening or real even if it appeared to have happened in our experience, that we will suddenly realised that was illusion and everything restored back to harmony automatically as though nothing has happened.

  8. Thanks, Evan and fellow “SpiritViewers.” In my experience I’ve found that gratitude and forgiveness are two major attitudes that help us wipe out the errors of the past so we can go forward with joy. I’ve learned that only the good in our life is real and eternal. The other “junk” goes to the dump!

  9. thank you to all who share articles. I have read them all.
I was thinking that since all is thought you can go revisit an idea that is almost calcified in your consciousness, shine new understanding on it, replace with the truth, and it will disappear. I have been seeing this lately and it amazes me how much I am not conscious of but I live out. I used to think of it as a unseen program running in the background as on a computer. It actually is fun to de-fang these old ideas.

  10. Thank you very much Evan!
To answer your last question: yes, spiritual progress! Oh yes, and more Love to our neighbor, gratitude and forgiveness what Daphne expressed so well above!

Karen, thank you for that link to the wonderful article in the Journal.

Have you all a lovely and joyful Good Friday, dear SpiritViewFriends 🙂
