Abide in spiritual sense

October 29, 2024 | 26 comments

To make wise decisions and feel stable peace, abide in spiritual sense.

Spiritual sense reveals to you what divine Mind knows.  It gets the facts straight.  Spiritual sense is your best friend when it comes to sorting out truth from error.

Be wise to not listen to mortal mind reporting through material sense.  Mortal mind reasons out from matter, sees limits, believes in lack, bows to disease, and perpetuates suffering.

For the best results, follow spiritual sense.  Spiritual sense leads you right.  Spiritual sense keeps you in a good place.

    1. I guess if thoughts ‘see limits, believe in lack, bow to disease’ then they’re from material sense? If thoughts are good and focus on abundance, peace and health, they’re from spiritual sense?

      Just my own musings ☺️

Thank you for the lift Evan!

    2. Hi Barbara. Whatever thoughts would make us feel dark, limited, constricted, fearful, worried, etc. is the view of material sense, basically it denies God’s All-Power and All-Presence and makes us feel alone and burdened.

Spiritual Sense tell us the Truth, that All is Well, in God who is All-Good. It uplifts, frees, inspires, makes us feel expansive, full of joy and ease and aware of unlimited opportunities.

Try this (it may be an oversimplification, but):
-If it feels joyful, it’s from God (Spiritual Sense).
-If it brings you down and feels bad, it’s the view of material sense.

    3. Hello Barbara,
At times I I have that same question. Evan does a marvelous job of explaining ‘spiritual sense” in three of his blogs….at a minimum….he has many!
1/18/23 Under the Providence of Spiritual Sense…..this is a video.
      6/3/24 Be a “have”
6/4/24 What does it mean to be spiritual

For me it’s turning away from the material sense and Tune In to the spiritual sense.
Tune in to what God is saying. Hearing what God is saying brings peace. it’s letting Love guide my thought. It’s being grateful for all the qualities that we express and those of my fellow man….kindness, gentleness. It’s being in a good mood.
It’s taking off that mask that at times seem so strong and forces us to buy into this wrong thinking.

It can be hard at times but we cannot give in to what the material sense is trying to say and have us do. We have the right tools to do the right thing and this brings about healing!

I so very much appreciate these blogs of Evans!

  1. I have had the same issue then I remembered the still small voice, I Kings 19:11-13. God wanted to show Elijah that God’s word does not always have to be accompanied by dramatic revelation. I have hung on to that and it does help me to stop and listen for that small still voice. For me it like a private conversation with God. I am fortified by God’s word from Isaiah 43:1 &2…”Fear Not”

  2. I have been working with “ eyes” and “seeing” , not to work on a physical problem but to see beyond what the material sense of life in matter is currently “screaming” at humanity right now.
Most helpful have been Bible verses 2 Kings 6: 16-23.
The prayer that we may all have our eyes opened and see the Truth shows that our Spiritual sense is with us always, always has been, and always will be.

  3. Thank you so much, Evan and all. The way I see it, spiritual sense is always
with us. We don’t need to perpetrate or keep going back to an illusion.. what
mortal mind portrays as real, because God/Love is Always present – anytime,
anywhere, omnipresent, both day or night. Really Real and with us without worldly
sense-filled props or aids that would try to influence our God-given “sense” … our
Spiritual sense. Mortal sense is always trying to tempt us into believing it is real.
It creates a false image where matter seems to be in control. It says we need mortal
power (like electricity) or our material eyes are part of material sense to see … reality,
but as Mrs. Eddy describes eyes as “spiritual discernment”.

  4. “A simple analogy illustrates the kind of broken relationship that one may be tempted to think they have with God. A reasoning that does not insist on the unbreakable relationship between God and His children imagines prayer to be a type of ladder. The person praying is at the bottom, struggling to climb up to God, who waits at the top. Spiritual sense, on the other hand, recognizes that there is no ladder. That each individual is already at one with Spirit, looking out from God’s vantage point and claiming nothing but His presence and power. This does not imply that a person becomes God, but that the individual coexists with God right where He is. There is no distance separating one from God, because distance is a material concept. Truly knowing the spiritual universe involves not what one thinks about it, but what God knows about it.”

Excerpt from: THE POWER OF SPIRITUAL SENSE by Jill Gooding From the July 2005 issue of The Christian Science Journal. I don’t have the link, but if anyone is interested in reading it or attaching it.

      1. Thank you Kristin! Unfortunately, it’s not opening for those that don’t have a subscription. If anyone has a link to the article that is shareable (the link end has copylink), it would be appreciated. :-). p.s. Thank you for sharing your experience with anxiety and fear below.

        1. Dear Kristin, regrettably I can’t open the article either to the full!

Dear Evan, thank you very much for pointing so often to “spiritual sense”. You also do it vehemently in your former wonderful lectures. To use our spiritual sense is very very important; however as I read in one of today’s comments this sense is a gift from God, the sense of God, of all Good. Therefore we have it all. That’s what Evan says in his lectures. But there he also points out that we must u s e it, and that’s the crucial point! I need this reminder a lot, and I thank you very much, Evan that you remind us today in this loving way!

    1. Thanks, J for this wonderful analogy. I have always loved Mrs. Eddy’s definition: “Spiritual sense is a conscious, constant capacity to understand God.” (SH 209:31-32)
Thank you, Evan and all, for this daily source of inspiration

  5. It has been my quest for some time to understand how to shift from human reasoning to spiritual knowing. I’ve learned that human reasoning and argument are necessary until spiritual sense “kicks in”. I recently had an encouraging healing when a high degree of anxiety and fear that had continued for a few weeks over a situation, was suddenly replaced by a complete sense of peace and a letting go, even though there wasn’t the slightest change in the circumstances. To me this was a clear illustration of spiritual sense replacing mortal beliefs.

  6. Although I am not of this faith, my girlfriend always sends me the daily Spirit View. I try my best every day tho live the Biblical and christian way however I am sometimes very weak. I pray every day and I know the Lord hears and grants 98 % of my prayers (especially my healing requests). Think about this.I can’t remember what I had for breakfast bur GOD still hears my prayers as well as many (ALL) others at the sane time that is why he is GOD, The creator. The Holy Spirit is there All the time. If it was meant for you, you will feel it and and know he is there..

    1. Welcome T.W., I’m glad to hear that your girlfriend has been sharing SpiritView with you.
Thank you for sharing your comments and hope to see you here again.

  7. Thank you, T.W. for joining us and commenting. You are on a good track. Christian Science is not only a religion or faith but something anyone can use to pray and to gain a little understanding that you can use always and any time when needed. Thank you, Evan for this subject. So many good comments and article. And the excerpt from Bickle Young was so good Kirsten. 🙂 Tx..

  8. You want to find God, a new thought arrived during travel to another state, to stay with family which I haven’t sent seen in a decade. This thought which I held in Mind was helpful to speak to God, regularly and directly, all through the travel, “Our Father, which art in HEAVEN.” This kept the thought always where God is, in HEAVEN. We all shared a wonderful, rich, funny, riotous, well spent time together. God was present in Heaven the entire time. Each one was in their place, enjoying being together, dancing, eating, laughing, sharing, among every moment spent with family.
