Thank you, Evan, for the answer to my question this day…”what is the solution to my situation now?” …the answer came in your statement “Abide in the light today”! Thank you for always listening for the answers to our questions and for sharing them!
As mortal mind, or the material sense of life, is put off, the spiritual sense and Science of being is brought to light.
(Miscellaneous Writings 1883–1896, Mary Baker Eddy, p. 82:21)
Allow nothing but His likeness to abide in your thought. S&Hp. 495 15:16. Something I was reminded of in a conversation and then it was in last week’s lesson.
Just as day brings light to us every day, without us wondering or
worrying if it will or not, spiritual sense brightens our day with
the light of Truth. We just need to tune in to it.
Evan thanks for today’s thought to “abide in the light.” To abide in means to live in, and comes from the word abode which means home, habitation, place of dwelling.
Christian Science teaches us that home or house represents spiritual consciousness, as in 23rd Psalm where it says, “I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever,” and house signifies our consciousness. May we come to fully understand that we can live nowhere else but in that true Light of Love (spiritual sense).
I love the subject of light in Christian Science – how is dispels the darkness of error and reveals
the spiritual reality etc. I kept a poem from the Sentinel which I found inspiring, and it reminds
me that Jesus said “Ye are the light of the world”. So light is not external to us, but shines
out from within us.
His shining light
By David Littlefield Horn
From the October 29, 1990 issue of the Christian Science Sentinel
For many years I wiped and scrubbed
and rubbed the windowpane I thought was me
to be a clear transparency
for Truth.
But I was never crystal-clear
nor felt my victory quite so near
as when I learned that man is not
transparency.
He’s light!
Much more than spots where God shines through,
we are His shining, bright and true.
David Littlefield Horn
Interesting perspective on “brought to light”
– an idea or thought that becomes illumined
– an idea or thought that comes to one’s thinking
Or
– an idea or thought brought to the light of truth to be examined for its validity.
That is my thinker for this day
Light…. What a beautiful word denoting the dawning of Truth to human consciousness through the illumination of spiritual sense. Rebirth, Revelation, Awakening.
In Retrospection and Introspection, Mary Baker Eddy describes her great discovery this way,……”The divine hand led me into a new world of light, and Life, a fresh universe– old to God, but new to His “little one.”
“The character of the Christ was illuminated by the midnight torches of Spirit.”….”Being was beautiful, its substance, cause, and currents were God and His idea. I had touched the hem of Christian Science.”
In her writings Eddy admonishes us all to drop material strivings and dependencies, and to seek the boundless, blissful Light of divine Love.
“Abide in the light” is a perfect resolution for the new year. Abide, not visit, or drop by, but stay, live, and rest in the consciousness of God’s all-illuming presence. Amen. Thank you Evan and all for your inspiration and spiritual insights. Such a blessing.
Thank you very much Evan for this very good advice to abide in the spiritual sense today!
After I’ve read this weeks lesson I prayed for divine energy of Spirit to keep my spiritual sense alight for guidance and solutions . Am sure and grateful God guided me aright today!
I read in SH that nothing can withstand divine Love. Utmost comforting!♡
Brief but so powerful. Thank-you.

Thank you Rose. I always find your comments inspiring. I love Hymn 465 which ends “I’m living in the house of God, the consciousness of Love”. Linda x

Thanks for sharing everyone on “abiding in the light”….so helpful!
Bottom line: remain in spiritual sense-resist all efforts by mortal mind to intrude & take over!
