Are you focused on the trouble or the solution?

March 21, 2016 | 9 comments

I came across this quote in social media, and it got me to thinking about where my attention is focused when faced with a troubling situation.

“David never really knew Goliath’s strength. He was too focused on God’s.”

It’s true. When you read the story of David and Goliath, David was so aware of God’s Almighty power, that he did not fear Goliath. David didn’t calculate Goliath’s physical strength compared to his, or Goliath’s experience in war to his, or how big Goliath was compared to him. David did not do any physical, material, human measuring. He simply knew that God was Almighty, and that God was much bigger than Goliath. And that was enough to deal with Goliath.

Do you have the same awareness when you face a trouble? Are you focused on the trouble and measuring your ability to meet it in human, material terms, and perhaps feeling inadequate? Or are you comprehending God’s Almighty power that can easily meet the need, like David did?

Learn the lesson of David. Know your Almighty God, rely on Him and let divine power take that trouble on. It’s a guaranteed victory.

  1. Thank you Evan, this blog It is just wonderfully simple and child-like.
I have found it so helpful to greet my dear Father-Mother God as soon as I awake each morning . I contemplate the verses in 1 Chronicles 29 : 11-13. These verses just lift me up and I feel God’s power

  2. I thank you for this amazing post ( such a great point! ) and for this terrific blog! I truly miss it over the weekends! You are very gracious and caring to help so many of us begin each day with something spiritually healthy in our thoughts! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for this amazing gift!

  3. Throwing our mental weight in the direction of God’s power and presence instead of giving our problems that significance is so good! Focusing thought on God keeps our mental house in order. I love this. It’s printed and framed on my desk as my bugle call this week! Thanks, Evan.

  4. Christian Science, as Evan’s Blogs show, teach us how to keep our focus always on God, the One Divine Mind, for this is REALITY! To see what God sees, to know what God knows, is how healing in Christian Science happens! Thanks, Evan, for always giving us God’s (Spirit’s) View! Blessings to All!

  5. I am making a sincere effort to keep in focus the simple stupidly of worry over a material problem knowing and understanding God’s solution to it based on a spiritual and not a material sense of Divine Love. The most wonderful happining is MARY BAKER’S EDDY’S discovery of C/S healing that helps us do this.

  6. We discussed this at our Wednesday night meeting. It was brought up in a response to a healing and the reading. Right on time!
