I love this reminder and an expanded thought of remembering each day to give kindness, love, care, joy and many other good qualities that are so needed by mankind. These are priceless and yet “free” to give! Giving like this is prayer in action.
Yes, it is wonderful to Give and to Give Freely – knowing that we have an Abundant Source from which to Give! But a word of caution: I have seen myself and others give to get, or give to get approval, or give to be thought well of, or give because I’ve been afraid of what people would think of me if I didn’t give. Learning to check my motive, to check with my Higher Power and see if Giving is the right thing to do in each situation. To Give Purely when directed by God is a right way to go!
My preference is to be able to give anonymously. To give with the motive of love, not appreciation. To be aware of needs and be able to meet those needs is my delight – my greatest satisfaction!
Great thought starter! Here goes …..As the ONE principle God is omnipresent and therefore omniscient and omnipotent: giving can only be from God to God. As all creation (ideas) we are each and all individualized expression of pure love in ONE Mind – so every creation/creature is giving itself always to the greater GOOD whatever it’s “level” of intelligence or consciousness, and can only give of it’s true nature, God. Thus we can physically possess no-thing that truly serves another as anything more than a temporary “stop-gap”. Jesus said “judge not” from the outer … and he never doled out money, band-aids or medicine because it was not his to give nor did he ever consider he might be withholding or limiting his Father’s eternal work. Paul warned us that if we don’t have the right inner consciousness of giving and receiving we can only experience outer “things” that are more likely to be annoying/frustrating and temporary. Jesus as Way-shower and Way-maker gave and received life and love which he sustained by right of consciousness. Those to whom he “gave” awakening of such were for the moment ready to “receive”, but unable to sustain. When we truly understand love we won’t need “charity” or aid as much of the world now knows it.

Hopefully this doesn’t offend anyone. I have a great respect for everyone’s contribution and it has its rightful place. I have a slightly different slant on Jesus and giving. We only know of him what is recorded in the Bible, a very small snippet into his life. We are all quite ready to report about what he did and didn’t do. We really don’t know. He cooked his disciples breakfast, washed their feet, told the story of the Good Samaritan taking care of a man’s physical needs after being robbed and beaten. My guess is he often took care of people in ways that don’t seem remarkable or miraculous. Everyday comforts and needs met. Kind and mindful of the smallest needs of people. We often think that our contributions must be spectacular in some way when sometimes the need is to move so a tired person can sit down, annonomously hang a jar of homemade soup and a biscuit on the Door of someone who recently lost a loved one. There are millions of ways to touch a heart and fill a need that will never ever be anything but a soft touch on a lonely frightened,or weary heart. I experienced a few of these and have been given the strength to hang on one more day, moved to the depths of my soul and sobbed for two hours from the tenderness shown me. Means a lot.
Thank you Charla. Just met an RN at the ICU unit of our hospital, who has two children are grown and out there homeless, My heart reached out to her for sharing her experience with me. I see from your explanation, more can and will be given, with the kindness and mindfulness that all we have is LOVE to give. I appreciate your sharing of your experiences which gave you strength, and you’ve carried on, All we’ve really been given to do is “good” from
God.
Dear Charla

I’m a Christian Scientist and a Member of a 12-Step Group. I go to support others who are struggling with Spouses or Children or Grandchildren who are caught up in Drug and Alcohol Addiction. The Love and Compassion and Kindness expressed in the Meetings are invaluable and the Support given to ALL, no matter their religious beliefs, is how I think Jesus would have responded in his day.
